"ohhhh.. glad they are okay... "

"Bless Kamiya san. He really is the God Prince."
"Good to hear from folks at Platinum. Hope they bounce back from this mess."

Microsoft confirms cancellation:
Repsonses...
"Cancelling one game and in the same breath trying to promote other games. Pretty heartless response. "
"That was one of the most heartless and corporate statement I have ever seen.
Fuck MS"
" that is? That's all they say about a game in dev for this long?!
15 words.
Amazing. My heart sinks even more for the dev team."

Is Platinum really so loved on here..? or is Microsoft just not so much loved here?
Both statements are short and mentions upcoming games..
what is the difference?
Okay, but if that were uniformly true then Sony wouldn't have ever gotten to their current position. Everybody would still be slave to their 360 Modern Warfare & Gears of War friends list.
One is from the party that made the decision, the other is from the party that had the decision inflicted upon them.
Glad to hear the stuff about him being in bad shape wasn't accurate.
Keep on keeping on I guess.
Looking forward to his next title, hopefully they have some backburner titles brewing.
Don't get me wrong I'm happy kamiya is fine but I'm not glad to hear it was bullshit, that's super shitty reporting that slanders Microsoft in a way that maybe they dont deserve.
Games get cancelled all the time, even ones that have been in development for a long time. Sometimes things just don't work the way envisioned. Scalebound was one of those and no one should be surprised by its cancellation. Look at people's reactions the last few times it's been shown, it didn't look good.
I really hope Patrick or Austin at waypoint look into this. It would be nice to get the real story on this from a trustworthy news source.
One is from a developer well beloved by most of the community.
The other is from the most hated company on NeoGaf.
definitely would be nice if someone got a story out on this. polygon people seem to maybe know something!

2nd.
Konami is going to be number one for the rest of eternity.
Creativity? Is Platinum really so loved on here..? or is Microsoft just not so much loved here?

yeah i suspect you're right - it's just that polite, twitter and Kamiya don't often appear in the same sentence, hence interesting. 😂There's no specific wording, he's saying that in a polite and professional way for all of his (and his company's) fans, and would have probably done the same whichever the situation was.
They probably all got tipped off from the same source. A big game of DM/PM-Telephone.
One is from the party that made the decision, the other is from the party that had the decision inflicted upon them.
Responding differently to each statement is perfectly logical.
If like me, you've played any MS first party game in the last couple of years, another Devil May Cry clone with a refreshing setting, would be completely fine.
MS canceled the game. How was the decision inflicted upon another? Do you have evidence of how/why this got cancelled?
From the OP:How was the decision inflicted upon another? Do you have evidence of how/why this got cancelled?
Huh, I always thought they did, but I Googled it and can't seem to find any mention other than marketing, weird.Yup. They are not the ones who paid for Ori, for instance.
One is aplogizing to fans for cancellation while other is trying to say it was the right decision to make. Which one sounds better to you?Platinum Games confirms cancellation..

1st line!
This whole thing has a very 'konami'esque feel to it.Can we say "fuck microsoft!" now? Somehow it doesn't sound as good as "fuck konami"

Seriously? Will you go that far just to defend Microsoft? Read the first line again.
I'm gonna go with the wish to demonstrate they are evil optionFact: Microsoft wants to sell games and Xbox/W10 systems.
Also, they paid for development of a game.
Then, they decided to cancel it.
Now... do you think they've done this just for hobby? Or to demonstrate they are evil?
Or MAYBE (maybe) something went wrong?Like, the game was not on schedule or it did not go across a quality check or such?
Also, do you have proof Platinum has not been paid fro the job?
Because it is very easy to give all the fault to Microsoft, especially after a similar situation with Phantom Dust.
Yet... i guess that maybe there are other reasons for the cancellation, behind the "Heheh... let's cancel this one!" thing.
PG´s is using the same or more space of the notification to apologize to their fans and people who were expecting to play the game. MS is stating that the game´s cancelled in an aseptic way and right after that promotes the upcoming releases. One reads like an apology while the other´s like "this stuff happened BUT LOOK HERE WE HAVE AWESOME GAMES COMING!". The tone of both is very different.

And now its 2017! Were starting this year off strong by releasing NieR:Automata at the end of February in Japan and early March in the West, and we have a few more releases planned before the year is over. The video game industry is constantly changing at a rapid and dramatic rate, and we plan to be as flexible as we can in order to deal with these changes. I think 2017 will be an important year for achieving results with the company reforms we implemented last year.

This thread shows that the majority of you guys would tank businesses with your current mind-set.
Maybe they decided to add more to their requirements without adding more to the budget, similar to Phantom Dust?Fact: Microsoft wants to sell games and Xbox/W10 systems.

It's not my fault that the same things need replying to...Is this thread on loop?
I'm surprised Sony still hasn't worked with Platinum on a project, always seemed like a no-brainer to me. They're the most obvious first party to partner with them, and yet they're the only one who hasn't.
More businesses fail than succeed so that is not a surprise. That said, Western business culture, primarily US, is very different than the rest of the world.
SONY got Fromsoftware they had sense .

I think the "Heheh..let's cancel this one!" idea starts to make some sense when you consider that Microsoft's strategy going forward doesn't seem to be these single player focused games with only sequel potential, but rather, games as services. They want to put money in developing individual Gears, Halo, and Forza titles to be able to profit from a single consumer for the entirety of the 2-3 years before the next one, rather than a consumer buying one game, then waiting 2-3 years for the next to pay $60 on.

Didn't realize GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link was being developed by Platinum, now that game looks promising.
Develop game for another year, ship it, possibly recoup more development costs than just throwing it all away for the sale of no one? (unless they are gonna sell it to someone, that would be neat).Nah that idea never makes sense.
They cancelled the game because they felt like their wouldn't get a return on their investment, so they cut their losses. Even if they are shifting to a games as service model, if they felt that releasing this game would allow them to at least break even, they'd have gotten it out the door.
The fact that they chose to throw away the entire investment after making it a pillar of their marketing and stomach the inevitable backlash and concern, tells me that the game was in an awful state (which is a feeling i couldn't shake from the first time it demoed).
I get that people are upset that this Platinum game won't see the light of day, but in addition to being a creative work it WAS a business venture. Frankly, This is what happens when the dollars and cents don't add up.
This information is now diamonds:The director of Metal Gear Rising and Transformers Devastation is working on it!
So you completely dismiss the option that Platinum was pulling another Star Fox with Scalebound?
