Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

I'm LTTP but a few things:

Oh look another pointless and idiotic comparison of between two unrelated games on the previous pages. And it's damn amusing how one cutscene can speak for the quality of an entire game; it lmirrors how we judge people in real life from one action ( or an entire group of people from one bad apple).

Anyway, black-leg and DriftingSpirit, do you have any list of notable previews apart from the aforementioned cutscene that I can watch later? I noticed some of them are missing in the OP last I checked.

As for the rather simplistic dialogue, I'm chalking it up to humanity's speech regressing after a 1000 years of improper learning infrastructure; no proper form of education. Not the way we learn English and talk like we talk today that is

How do you even know level 100 is the max? And there is also the possibility of requiring more than one ability point to get a skill after a certain level.

And as for the whole "she talks to herself too much bit", you know who else talks to himself a lot? Geralt.
Drifting will back me up on the links but PlayStation access, easy allies are the only two I watched and a 2 minute video of 4k footage by a guy named ghostrobo or something showing off a fight against the snapmaws and thunderjaw

I feel concerned about the fact that EZ allies continues to say that Aloy talks to herself alot just like the launch trailer

Looks like your concerns won't let you enjoy this game then?
The character talking to him/herself never bothered me before. It didn't impede my enjoyment of TW3 at all

I don't mind the chatter, as long as it's not hand-holding.

Nothing would kill the sense of mystery and exploration like Aloy saying stuff like "Wow, this must have been built by the Old Ones" or "I need to sneak past them through that cave", which unfortunately she seems to do a lot of in the previews :(

I was thinking that maybe DLC, something along the lines of the Witcher 3, would be the way to go with this franchise in the short term. Give us two decent sized DLC packs, maybe around 15 hours each and then at a later date offer the complete game in one, again like The Witcher. It would mean they'd be able to create content faster and we'd be able to play more of the franchise earlier.

Hmmm, the videos aren't very exciting outside of the graphics. This went from one of my most anticipated games of the year to a big maybe.

I'll wait to read in depth impressions after release.

Yep! That's right! No excitement at all. All very stale and boring.

Where did you get that from my post? People can't talk about their concerns without being questioned about it...

Pretty much

I kinda wish they just go straight to the sequel if we can have the next game a year earlier compared to them spending an extra year for Horizon dlc.

The map was once bigger and I'm sure some quests and other content were cut away with it. I reckon they'll already have a lot of assets available to them for DLC, perhaps not enough for two DLC packs but certainly for one. They could put a smaller team on the DLC and start story boarding the second game.

What kind of a response is this? Reads like unwarranted sarcasm.

Ill play Horizon, sure; I even have some criticism. But, then some post like the one you mentioned are like. "Oh no!!!:" "He said something negative about my game!"

*triggered mode activated*

*peels face off to reveal Nicholas Cage*

Smh, some people just love to criticize and judge. Wait till you play the game or the reviews are released and then talk all you want about how bad and disappointing it's.

Guys let's get back on track.

Is this an RPG? Like really real RPG kind of RPG? Or just Far Cry in third person with a female protagonist and robo dinosaurs and stuff?

Looking at the skill tree video it's very much the third one.

From the footage it looks like a mixture of both. Enemies have levels (I assume there are "zones" of robos with varying levels), you got a quantified health bar, you got gear with stats and stuff. There's sidequests, dialogue options, etc. But you also have tons of crafting, resource gathering and fluid action/stealth-action options. It's a neat mixture, even if I find some of the Far Cry takeaways a bit uninspired.

It's an ARPG. Definitely has Far Cry influences, but it's also more than just that.

For anyone wondering what the dynamic HUD is like, the first 7m15s of the video on the PS YouTube channel shows it. You'll notice elements fading in/out.

https://youtu.be/RIqMJupQqXg

There's a little more of it later in the video, but all three guys talking didn't play with it set to dynamic.

if there's a slider between Far Cry and Witcher 3, Horizon will fall somewhere in the middle.

Far Cry 4 is the last game I've played in the series and I haven't even beat it yet, but from my time of Far Cry 4 and the video I saw from Horizon. Horizon's game structure is more Witcher 3 than Far Cry 4 imo.

where are the fuckin gifs?
In this thread here. A lot of them actually.
YOOOO

Unwarranted? Posting ridiculous statements like it all looks unexciting barring the graphics? All the previews had various footage with plenty of excitement. Various things going on. If this game isn't someone's cup of tea fair enough but don't post bullshit statements without any context.

Game looks fantastic.

However concerns arised when they showed the world map. Most of it covered in fog and quests revealing as we climb towers :( I'm quite worn out on that kind of gameplay loop. Batman vision follow trials etc.

I'm interested in the story again as it may turn out the earlier leak regarding it was false.
The leak was very underwhelming.

Won't be there day 1. Should it review well and GAF impressions be positive it will most definitely be my RPG for the summer.

I don't think its a full blown traditional RPG in that sense. Its got a skill tree, its got material scavenging and crafting. I don't know if what you say or do can affect anything in the story or world, at least I don't think so. I'd say its a third person action game with some RPG elements.

People can find some things more or less exciting than others. It's not like s/he wrote the game off, either.

You don't have to climb the towers. Just explore.

Do it!!!

And than tell me how good it is
Never!

That Guardian preview is excellent. Although tread carefully if you don't want to know how the game begins. They go into great detail.

You can make siblings leave a village depending on your answer, still not an RPG?

you can still clear out the fog while exploring on your own, you don't need to hack the tower.

besides, it's kinda unavoidable for open world game to have a map that let you know what's available in the map. whether it's Ubisoft climb tower mini game or Witcher 3 style buy a map from merchant, or FF XV style talk to restaurant owner etc.

there will always be a method to fill your map and let you know what is in the map.

anyway usually open world game like this also provide filter to your map so you can hide any icon you don't like. and Horizon also have custom HUD if you don't like many icon appearing on the screen

I'd rather just get a map with no icons or location names in it. Just Topography, so i'm probably just not going to use the towers in this game which I don't mind since they don't look all that interesting any way.

Zelda doesn't have that, it's part of the organic gameplay proceedings

Perhaps it is because I watched on my phone, the rain effect didn't wow me. It didn't seem to bead or run. It also seemed to hit the same spots each time if you watched a particular spot on a character. T watched water drop off of the chin, but it was from nothing. The water wasn't streaming down the character's face it seemed.

I assume Horizon will also have map filter that let you hide all the icon in the map just like almost all open world games. so it's up to the player to customize their own experience.

Zelda has a Tower which gives you a map of the region. It's not really framed as a challenge to over come or anything (aside probably getting to it since there's a Guardian in the way) but it's the same concept.

What it doesn't do is fill in your map with icons or location names and only fills those in as you discover them.

I assume Horizon will also have map filter that let you hide all the icon in the map just like almost all open world games. so it's up to the player to customize their own experience.

And that'll be how I'll play the game.

You can? Like I said, I'm not sure if it's an RPG or not. I try not to look into too much videos or read up too much on the game. From what I've seen so far, it has enough for me to be super interested in it.

Games use the PS4 Display Area Setting (overscan compensation) differently.

Some games just move the UI in closer to the centre of the display and some downscale the entire game image with black borders rendered on all four sides. The latter degrades picture quality more as the game gets scaled twice, once by the PS4 and once by the TV.

Anyway, Horizon ZD probably does the former, and this is why in some videos the HUD isn't as close to the edges as it should be.

The US and EU PlayStation Blog preview videos show this difference clearly.

This may be one of the custom HUD settings too but it's likely at the preview events, some had their TV and PS4 configured better than others.
