First Horizon review [Engadget]

Already forgot about the WiiU and its 13M userbase?

yeah but it's also coming onto the newly anticipated switch

i don't see why only an established userbase would be a good indicator that horizon's opening would be better
than zelda

when the brand is established and already critically praised

Interesting, some posters complain about Zelda comparisons but are always quick to bring them up.

HZ:D will no doubt sell more due to being on a console with a considerably larger install base. Life time sales will most likely be a different story.

I am always baffled whenever people compare horizon with BOTW. Like, why? Is it because they are both open world? They are both doing different things.

Its not as dumb as the people comparing For Honor to Nioh, but it still seems dumb to compare the two.

Given the 60M+ PS4 user base it's entirely possible for Horizon to outsell Zelda with the right reviews and marketing.

Horizon is everywhere right now, with TV ads and YouTube gameplay, and has consistently been above Zelda in Amazon best seller lists.

PS4 owners without the Wii U but looking to get a Switch are likely to choose Horizon first and then pick up a Switch once there's more to play than just Zelda.

Nintendo needs to have a big marketing blowout, and soon.

Well of course it's not close to Nintendo's biggest. Most games aren't.
You should go look at this thread though, Zelda is still a big franchise in the west, is a multi-million seller regularly, and there has been a reason TP was delayed to be a Wii launch title (like BOTW to be a Switch launch title).

edit:

Zelda is opening on a new console and their biggest failure in terms of home consoles.

edit 2:

So you're saying that if Horizon sells 2-4M on PS4, it'll be bad, is that right?

Bad<> huge, stop projecting so much. Where did I ever saw it was bad?

It is dumb.
I was just replying to the Amazon chart comparison for that reason, you can't really compare sales there (especially on something as flawed as amazon charts) to say if one will be success or not, while both will sell in a different way for mostly different audiences.
It's like comparing Nier to Horizon. Both are open world RPGs right?

Edit:

you said:
Few million is not huge...at all. For AAA games.

So what are you expecting for Horizon, and what do you think would be threshold for "good" sales? Since a "few million isn't huge", I doubt you would still consider that as good...

Enjoy the annoying rivalry, it won't go away for months.

Same here. People simply want to stir shit up and frankly, it's pretty damn annoying. The similarities between the two are tenuous at best.

Horizon will be better than botw in terms of gameplay, innovation and of course visuals. A lot of zelda fans will pretend botw is the better game but deep down they know they are lying to themselves.

Not huge <> Bad, why are you having so much issue understanding that. 2-4 million would not be huge no, but it would be good. Huge would be Halo 3 numbers, Mario Kart, Gt5, all 10 + million. Last of us 10 + million.

I never said it was not good, not sure why you keep going back to that I never said it wasn't, so unless you have anything to add besides putting words in my mouth I am not going to respond to you anymore.

Sorry, just having trouble understanding your posts sometimes.
2-4M would be good for Horizon then, same for most AAA games, got it :)

Horizon needs to sell more than 4 million for it to be a success. I do expect the game to do 5 million or more ltd but lets see what happens

Holy fuck, I said HUGE it's not a huge franchise, I never ever said anything about bad or godo sale jesus Christ. Do you not know there is a difference between saying something is huge versus selling well or bad right? Zelda sells well, but it is not a huge franchise sales wise.

Lmao, I don't know whether I'm looking forward to it or not.

Either way this thread has been a fun read!

Get ready for a repeat of the The Last Guardian thread where people linked the same couple of low scoring reviews and going,"BOMBA!" or something along those lines and totally ignoring every good and glowing review.

So a majority of this reviewers enjoyment of the game comes from loving the main character? After all the media and trailers shown, I still don't like Alloy as a main character so I guess a big focus of the game is already lost on me. I hope the mechanics and structure are unique and not "Ubisoft Open World Design 101" becuse that would be a let down.

I think it's pretty obvious what he meant. Not sure what's not to get.

The order of the conversation was literally:
"few millions wouldn't be huge for a AAA game"
"would 2-4M be bad for Horizon?"
"holy shit I never said that, 2-4M would be good"
"cool, so 2-4M would be good for Horizon and other AAA games"
"welcome to ignore"

I'm not sure what I missed there...
Anyway, back on topic. Let's stop talking about comparisons to games from other genres.

I am excited to directly compare Zelda to horizon. Horizon is obviously the underdog but there could be a huge upset. I know from twilight princess that Zelda can go wrong and I have a hunch that horizon could be a breakout game for guerilla.

What a weird assumption to make. How do you know you wont like her when you don't know the story or the context in which she is characterized?

Wait, wtf keeps happening that causes Horizon threads to turn into comparisons to Breath of the Wild?

The rivalry persists...

This. I don't really care about what people say about a character's personality/characterization until I play as said character for myself. Though there are occasional moments when I catch gameplay footage that manages to capture something appealing about a character.

Are people also forgetting that Horizon is a new IP? New IPs always have a more reserved launch.

Not necessarily. Assassin's Creed was massive. Watch Dogs sold extremely well also.

It's a combination of timing, marketing and the game itself.

I mean, it seemed like you already know what he meant and you simply wanted to get him to say that 2-4m would be good for horizon and I guess you just annoyed him. The smiley face probably didn't help as well. This isn't me saying you're in the wrong, mind you.
