Plex also works fine for streaming HDR video files to the TV/Shield/whatever if you happen to have a server already setup.
Sweet! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!

They're going to be buying the panels from LG.
Have a bad experience with this TV.
- One HDMI port is broken after 2 months. Took awhile for a replacement board too.
- Is it normal for this tv to have a reddish hue on the corner edge? I heard about clouding, but isn't it supposed to be just white clouding?
Haven't tried 4K or HDR because my hardware have the power equivalent of a toaster.
Came into this thread to report the exact same thing. Here's my set-up:
- 49XD80
- PS4 Pro connected to HDMI 2
- Sony HT-XT3 receiver on HDMI 3/ARC
It's a relatively uncommon issue and only seems to happy a couple of times per day under quite heavy use, so I'm not sure if there's anything in particular that I'm doing that might cause this. The remotes for the TV and the receiver are on a table in front of me usually, so it's not that I'm sitting on them or something. I usually get it when I'm playing Final Fantasy XIV, which doesn't have 4K/HDR support.
I do have a couple of other devices connected, but they're usually turned off completely (i.e. not on standby) - a Mac Mini connected by HDMI that usually gets used as a server now and another PS4.
It didn't occur to me to try replacing the HDMI cable, so I guess I'll switch the cables around and see if that helps. (BTW, I saw this but I'm pretty sure I am using the cable that came with the Pro.)
Sorry for quoting myself, but I thought I'd follow up on this.
I kind of dragged my feet on replacing the HDMI cable, but one night while I was playing, the sound got corrupted - just a constant loud burst of static-like noise. Turned off the receiver, but the noise just blared from the TV instead, though putting the TV on standby fixed it. (It was the worst possible time, in that I was playing online, and I was on voice chat to boot. Oops.)
Got a new HDMI cable on Amazon pretty sharpish after that, and so far it seems a little better, in that the info bar is coming up a lot less frequently than I remember, and it doesn't seem to come with an audio cut-out like before, but I'll have to keep using it for a while to be sure since that could just be a placebo effect. (I often play with the volume low if I'm using voice chat.)
Pretty baffled about where the problem is originating - I got the PS4 Pro at the same time as the TV, and I can't experiment because I no longer have the old PS4 or the old TV. I guess the next thing I'll try is running the PS4 Pro HDMI through the receiver to see if that changes anything, and failing that, get in touch with Sony... I tried a few other things like disabling HDMI control of the console and turning it off instead of putting it on standby, but no luck there. I haven't tried resetting the TV to factory settings yet, but I'll try that soon since I'm sure that's the first thing on the support script.

Looking to get the 43'' version, anyone know the cheapest place to get one in the UK/Ireland?
Well we replaced our 7 year old TV today for a Sony Bravia xbr-49x800d. On the fence on how to treat our setups here for gaming. Wife generally uses the TV for gaming while I use my desk. She uses a slim and I use a Pro. She doesn't really care at all about graphics though she was pretty impressed with HDR. So the Slim should take care of that. Anything else I should know about this TV? Need to order up a couple of HDMI 2.o cables but other than that, any settings to check and/or use?

Can't find the black for any less than £649. Was £100+ cheaper around the Black Friday deal, but I just kept waiting for it go lower. Price jumped straight back up after the sales, and kept on increasing for some reason.

Might just go for it tomorrow and get it from Argos in time for Horizon. I'll be livid if I do and the price drops again soon, but that's the risk you take innit. There's always a potential price-drop round the corner, or a price hike if you're really unlucky.
@Mikey Jr, any word on when the new versions will be out, and how much they'll be/how they'll effect the prices of the models this thread is about?
Currys doing the 49" for £699 so if you have the space I think I'd go with that model, I've got the 49 in silver and it's a great set.
Isn't the 49" a worse panel though?
VA vs IPS, or something. IPS being the worse one.

Hmm. Is it me or is there this sort of cloudy effect with everything (It's almost like a dirty screen)? I"m using the Game mode option right now and just sort of looking through games and television. Anyone else see or seen this?
Edit: Maybe it's film grain with satellite channels. I notice this in game with white screen. Hmm. More testing.
Edit 2: Grey uniformity. I believe this is what I'm seeing. There some kind of setting fix for this or adjustment?
You should return for replacement not try to fix it yourselfHave a bad experience with this TV.

I noticed in reviews for other TVs that HDR would only activate through one specific HDMI port, and you'd need a certain kind of HDMI cable (I wanna say its called 1.1, not sure though)
Is that the case for the 43" version of this TV? I have no idea whatsoever what the specs are of my cables, always thought one HDMI cable was the same as the next.
Cheers, will have to do without HDR from my PC then I guess, can't be arsed to switch cables around

Unfortunately, HDR is not this TV's strength. It just whacks up the backlight so dark scenes look particularly bad and worse than SDR. Edge lit LCDs all have the same issue to some degree and you need a set that has local dimming to get a better result. The 49" is also generally worse than the 43" as it uses an IPS panel - better viewing angles but poor black levels giving you a very grey output in HDR where it should be dark.Just tried Uncharted 4 on this and to me it looks worse with HDR on. Is it just me or is everyone having the same experience.
Interesting.
I considered an oled but the price and also image retention put me off.

Not many midrange TVs can do justice to HDR even though they accept the signal.
The Samsung KS8000 is the cheapest TV that can really do it - and I don't own one of those so no bias.
I had this Sony but took it back after 3 days due to terrible HDR Handling - in other aspects - 1080p, 4K SDR, motion control and input lag it's pretty good - just not HDR

Fucks sake I bought this TV due to the reviews of being a good mid range HDR TV and this threads early glowing impressions. Surely I have some settings messed up cause Uncharted 4 looks washed out in HDR mode and in SDR mode it looks more vivid. Perhaps it's the game and other games like Ratchet and Clank look better right?
Edit
Just tried infamous First Light and have the same problem. Colors become dull.
These are my settings
I have the same TV and settings. I felt the same way initially also. I just chalked it up to the game's itself. HDR looked the best to me on Ratchet and Clank but it wasn't really a big difference. To me the HDR I've seen so far felt like mild desaturation and a brighter image but I felt like the image looked the same even if you cranked the brightness up yourself. I haven't really messed with this TV for HDR in a while I've mainly been playing one non HDR PS4 game lately(Persona 5).Brightness Max

Need more info:
Is this the 49 or the 43? Are these HDR or SDR settings? Using the same for both?
Are you in game mode? What are your PS4 video setting?
Likely the brightness is waaay too high for SDR. What is your ambient lighting and how far away are you sitting?
For SDR, in a dark/dim room, the brightness (backlight) should be maybe 5 maximum for good black level.
Contrast can be ok at 100, but some people have seen white clipping with that setting. My set does not clip at 100, with SDR, but 95 should be safe for everyone.
43 inch version
I use these settings for both SDR and HDR. My complaint is about HDR mode where the colours look dull and washed out. In SDR the games look fantastic but I feel like I'm missing out on HDR feature as it looks worse than HDR.

One of the issues is that the brightness is way to high for SDR, and it can't get any higher with HDR enabled.
Basically, there is no restriction on how bright they allow the picture in SDR, although it is mastered at 100 nits peak brightness. You are displaying the SDR at >300 peak brightness, which is basically torch mode of SDR.
So when an HDR signal is fed into it, the gamma function changes, instead of 100 nits of peak brightness occurring at 100%, it now occurs at the 50% mark, and the TV clips all whites after about 70%, or 370 nits.
TLR or don't care for the details is that if you have the TV at max brightness for SDR, then you will not see any increase in peak brightness at HDR. Additionally, most games do not implement an expanded color gamut, although there may be some improvement in the color brightness available to the picture.
SDR mode I have brightness set to 20. HDR mode I have brightness set to 100 as it automatically sets itself to that. All other settings are identical as one of my above posts details which I got the settings from RTings. SDR looks more vibrant and derailed, while HDR looks washed out and dull and the colours look muted.

As someone who owns both x800d and ks 8000 youre definitely exaggerating.I would take it back if HDR is important to you - nothing against Sony - my previous TV was the K829, and I 'upgraded' to this, but the technical limitations of doing HDR on this type of TV results in the problems you're seeing. It looks worst in games where there is a lot of dark areas - infamous is also an example where what was black in SDR becomes grey. Notice how even the PS4 home screen becomes washed out when HDR is on.
I see lots of people trying to justify this set - and on AV forums there are many details of people who think they have settings to overcome it, but I would encourage you to go to your local store and see HDR content on a capable set so you know what you should be getting - the Sony - and many TVs at this range cannot do it and that's why they don't carry the Ultra HD Premium tag. Get one that does if you want proper HDR.

This tv lacks local dimming hence the greys. Thats that.
Washed out colors aren't caused by poor hdr its caused by poor settings. And yes even the weak blacks issue is eliminated to an extent with the settings.
Long story short. Want the best hdr? Get those lg oleds.mind you even those will be outdated color range wise in 2 years tops. Want something in reasonable gaming budget. Get this.
I mean price wise, its a mid range tv. And the only one as far as i know that has a 10 bit panel with wcg in its range.Agreed, I have a 43 X800 in the bedroom and a 65 LG B6 OLED in the living room.
HDR looks fine on the X800. It only loses out in the black level department.
Apparently worse blacks but better angles, can't say I've had any issues with my colours though and things pop and look as dark as should do.
