Is the European version also with IPS panel? I meant 49 inch and 55 inch version. I've asked in my local store and they are pretty sure that 49xd8005 comes with VA panel type.

Got that covered.. still looks washed out.
Someone here plays horizon? How does the tall grass (for sneaking) looks on HDR? Is it bright and poppy red? Or is it not much different then non-HDR
Any updates?
No updates here. Order is still listed as 'dispatched'.
Ooow sky and everything is bright. Ma grilfriend and myself said "woooooooow". But i just saw it has less effect on lets say 'tall grass'.
It definetly works.. but i want to know if there are good presets to get the best out if HDR on this screen.
Maybe somebody can shares their setting it they feel like they have the correct setting.

set brightness to 10, or 1, then leave brightness alone. the tv will automatically set brightness to max when a hdr picture appears.

make sure enhanced hdmi is turned on in the tv settings.
also make sure youre using hdmi ports 2 or 3.
Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of HDR (high dynamic range) mastering is to expand the available luminance range rather than elevate the overall brightness of HDR videos. High-end display calibration software maker Light Illusion has published this exact quote from SMPTE's ST.2084:2014 standard "High Dynamic Range Electro-Optical Transfer Function of Mastering Reference Displays" on its website:
This EOTF (ST2084) is intended to enable the creation of video images with an increased luminance range; not for creation of video images with overall higher luminance levels. For consistency of presentation across devices with different output brightness, average picture levels in content would likely remain similar to current luminance levels; i.e. mid-range scene exposures would produce currently expected luminance levels appropriate to video or cinema.
Did you clean it while it was on or still warm?
I did that to my 60" Sony, and it caused dark patches due to the panel overheating in spots that got cold from the cloth, after which I tried to move the blotches off using various methods, ultimately ending up accidentally pushing too hard and having my thumb slip totally destroying the panel.
This is why I am in this thread and waiting for a sale on the x800d lol...![]()
Its not going to blind me is it? I'm a bit adverse to overly bright TVs.
EDIT: NVM, found a good description of what is happening. It basically increases range of brightness, not overall brightness. Cool.

Is Game mode the only mode that provides the lower latency?
no.
one of the purposes of hdr is to give really bright highlights to things.
eg. looking at a 100w light bulb in a game or film will actually make your eyes hurt/squint like in real life.
youre not going get the brightest of displays anyway with this tv as it doesnt have the absolute maximum brightness rating of other hdr tvs'
hdr top rating is 1000nits or cd/m2. this tv has about 380nits/cdm2
youll notice that as a result of brightness maxing out that very black scenes will look a little washed out.
(nothing you can do. and certainly do not lower brightness as that defeats the purpose of hdr.)
its because theres no local dimming on this tv, which actively shuts off leds in areas of the screen where theres no/limited colour.
games like resident evil 7 wont have the same really deep blacks in them when youre walking around the dark house.
dont fiddle with black level to try and compensate. all that will do is crush the blacks and lose you picture detail.
So - no more deep blacks - and washed out colours - and low nits - HDR is pointless on a backlit LED such as this
its pretty noticeable when u toggle the HDR on/off in a game. Especially Uncharted 4...like...ugh...im glad i didn't have to play the non-hdr versionSo - no more deep blacks - and washed out colours - and low nits - HDR is pointless on a backlit LED such as this
rtings says Graphics mode is the same as Game mode..as far as latencyIs Game mode the only mode that provides the lower latency?

Anand the money's been withdrawn. Lol. Fuckers.
So based on Digital Foundry and other review sites I am almost about to hit the button on a Samsung Ks7000 but this thread is throwing me slightly.
Any comparison advice or suggestions? Thanks
It's pointless without local dimming, all you are getting is a game that is tone mapped differently.
This threads needs to die , the number of people that have run out to by this non-HDR TV because of it is such a shame
Just got this tv to replace my aging 9 year old sony bravia 1080p tv. Just using a regular ps4 and playing HZD it already shits on my old tv from a mountain. Smart TV features are pretty sweet as well.
Using all the rtings.com settings atm, enhances hdmi, game mode, brightness 1, contrast max rest on auto and it looks so sweet.
Is motionflow worth using?
Going to get a ps4 pro tomorrow so I can actually play in 4k and HDR.
did you get the 43 or 49?
Is the 49's picture that bad compared to the 43? I had to settle for the 49 because 43 were all sold out.
It's a good TV... but it's an IPS with not great blacks [and therefore, contrast is worse than with 43" VA].
Motionflow is good if low framerate causes you to get headaches. Otherwise, it causes input lag when gaming.Just got this tv to replace my aging 9 year old sony bravia 1080p tv. I bought the 49" the other day and love it i didn't notice anything different between my friends 43" version and my 49" but i also don't have an eye for all the stuff like other people do. I do know that there are people who complain about shitty panels they got on the 49", bad lottery i guess? I have yet to come across any of those reported problems thankfully. Is the 49's picture that bad compared to the 43? I had to settle for the 49 because 43 were all sold out. I probably wouldn't be able to tell because I'm still using a 10 year old Samsung LNS3251D. So it's going to be massive upgrade.

I use it on my Bravia for 30fps games because I get simulation sickness from low framerates on large screens.
There are people on this board that believe motion interpolation is the devil. I think it's fine as long as it's not cranked up so high it creates artifacts.
Got the 43 VA panel. My old tv was a 40". It used to blend colors together, was blurry and generally looked awful compared to this.
Apparently HDR is working in HZD at 1080p already with the regular ps4, the colors look more natural. With HDR off ingame, the colors look more cartoony.
Does the netflix app on the TV supports 4k and HDR? or do I have to use my ps4's netflix app for that?
I know that. I just wanted to know how noticeable the difference is
It's funny you mention this.
The Netflix TV app far surpasses the PS4 app because it does 4K AND HDR. The PS4 only does 4k for right now.
Hopefully there will be an update soon, but I like using the TV App.
the actual tv must look like a new world but size wise it doesn't feel much different then right?
