Confirmed - Joycon Latches Will Break If You Break Them (Giant Bomb)

Wait what ?
Does the sentence actually says : "It breaks if you break it" ?
Is that supposed to be some kind of joke topic or something ?

It's a joke about what happened. Reviewer dropped Switch on floor, Joycons slid out fairly easily after but he couldn't remember if that had always been the way and acted concerned about the build quality, NeoGAF panicked and jumped to a lot of conclusions, Reviewer eventually checks another Switch and confirms that it appears they broke theirs when it dropped and it's no cause for alarm.

Hence, all the scenario showed was, if you break something, it has been broken and won't work as expected.

The fact the Switch survived is fantastic. God bless Nintendium.

To anybody, please, dont drop your electronics in concrete.

And don't reach in after it if you do. Shit will burn you like acid.

But really, wet or dry, concrete is the devourer of electronics.

This thread reminded me of this moment but in my head now Phil and Kudo are replaced with Left and Right JoyCons.

They need to get in front of this right now and issue a very public apology to Nintendo as well as their subscribers or they are really running the risk of wrecking their credibility. Permanently.

lol.

also lol @ thread title.

Hey at least we now know that we really don't want to drop the Nintendo Switch.

With each day it gets a bit harder to take Giant Bomb seriously now. I can't wait for Dan's review on BotW, since he's clearly more enthusiastic about it than Jeff.

I dunno, GB preview videos aren't doing it for me now, especially after the abomination of the Gravity Rush 2 preview.

How is making fun of journalists doing stupid stuff "petty" ?
I mean, I'm talking about the guys who ate a cartidrige because why not.

He placed the cart in his mouth during a subscriber-only stream that's about doing silly stuff and friendly banter after one of the other guys suggested he do it for laughs. He was being spontaneous and intentionally funny, it wasn't even a stream about the Switch, it was one of their weekly casual "unwinding" friday streams.

How is that any less stupid ?

You are implying that this has an impact on Jeff's credibility as a game journalist. I personally think that is incredibly stupid, so I assumed it had to be a result of the blind pettiness of a console warrior excited about their new console release.

Oh, my bad then, I didn't know about this. My apologies. I saw the gif on twitter and thought it was during an official stream or something.

Not really. I don't even know who that Jeff guy is supposed to be. I'm just saying that it was stupid from Giant Bomb to rant against the latches if they were the ones to broke it in the first place, and even more stupid when they're supposed to be professionnal.
Also, criticize other people's work doesn't mean that you're blinded by something else.

He put it in his mouth and lied about it tasting bad for the clicks! The Nintendo Switch actually tastes great!

It was a visual gag. Drew, from off-screen, asked Jeff "How's the mouth?" and what you saw was Jeff's response.

Did anyone ever mention the segment in question is called Unprofessional Fridays? It's literally just them fucking around, usually playing video games, to cap off a week.

Edit: beaten!

Giant Bomb would be the first to defend your right to make fun of their silly antics.

Tasting cartridges on a UPF stream is not the hill anyone needs to die on. :lol

Sure, I feel like providing context goes a long way to solving this sort of misunderstandings.

I feel similarly about the joycon latch thing, he just mentioned it casually and recognized that he'd accidentally dropped it beforehand so that was probably why they were like that (but couldn't honestly remember). Then the Internet picked that up completely out of context and here we are.

People act as if GB had published a video on YouTube making it seem like it was a huge issue or some article on their page when it was a casual comment during a silly subscribers-only stream.

It is a good design that the tabs are on the joycon though. So if they do break, a new joycon should fix it.

Wow. Just wow. Judge of a gif with 0 context, assume the worst possible. This is where we're at folks.

I mean, if you use the Switch like a handheld as advertised by Nintendo, there's a real chance for something like this to happen.

Come on now. It's a gif of a journalist putting a cartridge in his mouth. How is your first reaction supposed to be something else than "wew it's super dumb" ?
It's not like these subscribers-only stream are something common that everybody know.
