Zelda BOTW Switch Day 0 Patch incoming

Speaking of which, and I know these EGM articles will get some flack for calling it "Zelda 3/III", here's the material I found on A Link To The Past from that publication.

I have a poster that came with my SNES that calls it Legend of Zelda 3.

If anyone is jumping on the Zelda DLC pass right away (assuming the shop is up and it's on sale), I would appreciate some word on what the pre-purchase bonus items are like (apart from the Switch shirt)—whether they break the balance or flow of the early game, or clog your inventory, or intrude into the first-time experience, or anything else along those lines. Spoiler-tag it if you think that's necessary. I mean to hold off on the DLC myself until we hear more about it, but it would be helpful to know if there are any strong reasons for or against putting money down in advance.

Looks to me like it's freezing up due to a bug and not because of performance. You see the same freezes in the Easy Allies review when attacking that same enemy.

It think the game has memory leak issues, these certainly aren't your regular framedrops. Maybe it could be fixed in a patch.
Framerate issues (in apparently a spoiler location):

Sorry people, it was from the Gamexplain review which they claimed was spoiler free, but it seemingly really isn't a big deal.

I have two different game boxes that say Legend of Zelda 3 on them!

Seconded! Let's PM each other if either of us hears in another thread, ok QN?

edit: sigh, spoiler-tagged for the most sensitive eyes. Just a regular enemy and a generic-looking dungeon-like location.

Maybe I'm wrong but if that's a frame rate issue wouldn't we be seeing "time skips" instead of freezes?

I know because I walked there. And died.

Huh I had no idea, it's from the Gameexplain review, which they claimed was spoiler-free. Somebody else linked to that video in the review thread. :P It shows nothing anyway. If you hadn't said where it was from nobody would've remotely guessed.

What the hell is that?! Spoiler tag it please?

WHAT THE FUCK? Why the fuck are there spoilers in this thread?

Its from the endgame.

The spoiler sucks for sure, and as someone on media blackout I am especially disappointed to see it, but luckily it hopefully doesn't show too too much...let's just all try to get it out of our minds...much of what's in the image is stuff we know is always in Zelda games...thankfully no major story spoilers or something... lol I'm trying to reassure myself here so please don't correct me if I missed something huge in there. ^^

Inspectah, one small Q,
did you go there at the beginning of the game?

Yes,
I went there after clearing the plateau and getting my first horse.
But there are guardians everywhere, so I didn´t make it inside.
This game will have VERY interesting speedruns down the line.

Thanks for the info. So at least, that should be reassuring to those of us feeling we've been spoiled, in a sense.

Not really, I didn´t see this particular location and also not
all the buffs.
I guess it´s
the inside of the castle, but I didn´t make it that far.

Ah, OK. Well, we knew
there was a castle, and guardians. Link often gets stuff like the only thing I noticed in the way of buffs before I clicked away.
so that's something at least. (Lol please don't correct me if I'm wrong, I want to believe I haven't been spoiled much and I did only see the first frame of the .Gif so it's possible there's something more spoilery I didn't see! I hope not though for the sake of those who saw the full thing.) I mean, you didn't see this location but you saw
the aesthetic that seems familiar to you
. I'm just glad it's not a final boss .gif or Link marrying Zelda or something.

I knew immediately where it was from, because
the castle has a very distinctive 3D hologram minimap.

Nah bro, just checked the Easy Allies review where they show
one of the main dungeons, all of them have that
. You mistakenly assumed it was from the endgame, when most likely it isn't.

I wish it would have added an option to play Handheld settings on TV mode.

I'd take the 720P and solid 30fps any day over 900p and the little chug it has.

Can somebody check the area of the easy allies review ? If this runs fluid now, I would be so happy.

That's awesome news, and you'd think someone at Dualshockers would be very aware of technical issues.

I wonder if it's fixed completely (locked 30fps the whole game) or it just greatly lowers the amount of drops.

This should be put in the OT, lol

Another quote I missed in the middle of the review:
in the brief time I’ve played the game this morning — since the latest Breath of the Wild update was released — I have run into the issues less frequently.

Doesn't seem to be locked still, but every little bit helps.

I think it's fair to say that open world games tend to have very variable framerates. There's plenty I've played on PS4 that fluctuate all over depending on what is going on.

Not on Horizon Zero Dawn, MGS V, The Division, Final Fantasy XV (although I played on PS4 Pro, only bad frame pacing), Need for Speed, Dying Light, Mad Max, Skyrim, infamous first light .... Should I keep going?

MGS was mostly barren, FFXV has issue on base PS4, infamous first light was the DLC where they learned optimization tricks after the initial game. Skyrim is a remaster.

I've seen slight dips in Horizon as well, not anything like this tho.

I'm very skeptical of that patch improving the framerate. A lot of the time people aren't reliable in this matter until you show the actual stats.

Don't forget Witcher 3, which had to go through many many patches.

I'm not trying to get in list war(I've seen issues with base PS4 FFXV, Fallout 4, among a few others that I am aware of), I'm just pointing out that some performance variance in a open world game is to be expected. It's just the nature of the genre being so open and uncontrolled. It's not always the case of course, and certainly less of an issue on better hardware. With what we know of the WiiU and the Switch, it's not particularly shocking although I imagine some of it can be cleaned up in patches.

People usually start saying frame rate issues are regular. But it's not the usual case. This ps4/Xbox One generation has seen some great examples of performances and even greater post launch updates.

The stutters seeing in Zelda (on reviews and etc....) are not on par with what we have on the market right now. The Switch can be underpowered, but that doesn't really mean the framerate should be worse. It's all about balancing technology, and if Nintendo can't achieve that they need to hear from us or from their customers that we do not except 20 fps games anymore.

I'm glad they are providing a day zero update. Hope to see some improvements.
