whomever designed these motion control shrines needs to be fired immediately. The only blemish on this otherwise perfect game so far.
Yes. This is the truth. The puzzle that involved navigating that stupid marble through that stupid maze can go die in a ditch.

Just encountered my first great fairy.

Huh.

Neat character design.

raw

Best design.

This game reminds me, of all things, of Super Mario Galaxy 2. The rush from that game came from how more or less every single stage seemed to be doing its own thing, and how the game just continually piled on fresh, creative means to engage with each stage's core challenge. Miyamoto, I think it was, spoke of how that game was built using tool established during development of Super Mario Galaxy, and they allowed a lot of people to quickly prototype conceptualised ideas. A lot of chefs in the kitchen and easy tools resulted in a banquet of content.

I get a similar vibe from Breath of the Wild, only with an impressively natural and seamless coherency with the open world. The shrines, dungeons, encounter camps, environment puzzles, and secrets to discover; it's like that same abundance of micro challenges that SMG2 specialised in, only instead of disconnected into neatly compartmentalised "stages" here they simply all exist almost perfectly at once as part of the same game world.

Regarding the timeline matters:
It has elements from all of them. There are references to Twilight Princess and references to Wind Waker. My personal thinking is that this is so far in the future that it no longer matters. The older games are now simply myths and legends, and we've got something that merges them all back together in a way.

Wow, light spoilers:

Just encounters my first member of the Yiga clan. That was intense. What a great design though.

Yup, I can't remember which review it was but they said what separated Breath of the Wild from most open world games was the fact that every single inch seems hand crafted which I'm finding to be true. The world is big but dense.

I fucking love this game

Woke up and played 3 hours this morning, all I achieved was one shrine, one tower and not much else. But I loved every second of it. I don't know what it is about exploring in this game that makes it so much more enjoyable than other open world games.

You described it perfectly

I have to say, I love the idea of champions who are basically equal to link, I hope they carry this over to future zeldas for now on

Titan quest question
water titan. How can I get to control thing on the trunk? I think I tried everything now. :(

Edit. Nevermind. I think I know how.

I dyed my tunic green for old school's sake, but I dunno. It was blue before, and it looked cool.

Not that green is bad. It looks great too. But I kinda blend in with all of the grass, and blue is BotW's thematic color.

Is it normal to have weird noises in the menu screen when switching between items? It's a soft but irritating sound. I'm experiencing the same thing in the Switch menu screen.

So I wonder if I can sell things like Opal, Ruby, Sapphire etc, because I want to but some good stuff like armor/clothing and I rather keep materials that are meant for food for just that. Can I sell these diamonds?

Once you're at the trunk door, put the trunk in the lowest position then float to the tip with your paraglider. Then while on it, bring the trunk up.

Yep! Sell away. Easiest way to get super rich.

Change bows. There's at least one of them that puts you in first person view, apparently because it has longer range.

Thanks, I changed the bow and the first person view is gone now, even switched back to the bow I was equipping and no first person view. I think it's a bug.

How are people saying the dungeons aren't themed? Is it purely on a superficial level, aesthetically? Because I'm in my first boss fight and the dungeon I went through to get here unmistakably had themed puzzles and settings. Even the boss itself is themed.

What am I missing about the small korok fans scattered about? I thought I was meant to use a leaf on them, but are each of them contextual?

I'm helping out the dude with his Cuccoos in Kakariko (because of course), I'm down to the last one and I have no clue where it is. Can someone spoiler tag the hardest one to find?

did you check all the roofs. Theres on a roof. Pretty sure it was on top of the clothing/armour store.

Yeah, there was one that reminded me of the old NES Marble Madness game. It was infuriating until I figured out that I could turn the game pad upside down and the board flipped upside to the flat surface.

theres a pachinko style one that I spent like an hour on wrestling with the controls and won it by just pure luck.

Haven't really posted in here at all, but fuck me, this game's fantastic. I really liked the game before, but then I set off on an adventure to Z
ora's Domain
and I fell in love with it.

The feeling of walking into genuinely uncharted territory with only a vague idea of where you should be going is fantastic - I assumed Z
ora's Domain
would be north of West Necluda, because how close it is to the sea, and when I got into that region there was a massive blue dam, so I knew I was in the right sort of area. But because
the rain never stops in that region, my original plan of climbing the dam had to be abandoned, so I ended up going all the way around the outside of what I now know is the Lanaryu Great Spring to try and find a way in.
The variety of locations is really quite something, and it still manages to feel cohesive and well crafted. Knowing you can't just run head on into every fight makes adventuring really tense too - it got to the point where I was running low on cooked food with no means of making any more, so I really had to pick and choose my battles well. I eventually found the Akkala region tower after stealthing my way up a cliff face patrolled by some F
lying Guardians
... and there's still so much of the world I haven't seen.

I'm not gonna go on about the entire journey because it'd take forever, but still... this is fantastic.

What's the policy on posting screenshots in here? I have a few pictures that I'd like to share, but I wouldn't want to spoil anyone - for what it's worth there aren't any enemy or major location spoilers, just some pretty scenery.

I really like the game, I'm in the third region now, story-related (even if I visited some part of others)

Just one question: I wasted a LOT of time trying to find my way to the third/fourth shrine on the plateau...

Does someone explain you how you can
cook?

There isn't even an action suggested in places you can do it, unless
you have items in hand
and the whole process isn't exactly easy (it's even annoying when you want to do it several times, unless I missed something).

(for me, the worst part is weapon selection on "D-pad right"... It's annoying that you have to leave the L-stick to select a weapon, it makes fleeing and choosing a weapon when you broke yours hard)

The Old Man teaches you how to cook. At night, inside the forest.

I don't know if it's a feature of the region I'm in but I get so much thunderstorms it's getting really frustrating. 10 minutes of rain then 10 seconds of clear weather before it goes back to raining isn't really fun.

Just finished my first dungeon (
Zora's Domain
) and man, the story is really sad isn't it? I wasn't ready for all these feelings 😭

Mipha's
VA was atrocious.
Her scenes would've had more impact if she was voiced better.
Sigh.

I just want a happy ending for Link :(

I've been playing for close to 12 hours straight. Probably close to 20 all together.

I only have 6 hearts.

I've been to 3 map regions including the starting one. A million more to go.

This game is amazing and I love just soaking it in, taking my time and exploring but I can't play too many like this. It's bad for my life and everything in it.

I figure this thread is far more active than the actual Switch thread on GAF... but can someone please tell me what exact Switch accessories should I get?

Yeah some of the voice acting is distractingly bad imo, Zelda and
Mipha
in particular. Some of it's fine, but it really feels like the actors for those characters were trying so hard to sound regal and dignified that they neglected making them sound natural. I swear there's a part in one of the m
emories
where Zelda's accent dropped for a second or so as well.

Timeline stuff, no spoilers past Kakariko Village

So it was said earlier that this was in the Twilight Princess timeline, but... couldn't it just as easily be the Downfall timeline? Obviously it would be FAR into the future either way. Maybe it's so far that it just doesn't matter.

So I am at the Zora
Domain dungeon now. Been in there for prob 1 hour in total with no progress. I have activated two of the terminals (crank and water wheel), but can't seem to progress any longer.

Why am I so stupid and what am I missing?

Climbing and the Ghibli aesthetic.

A pro controller. Seriously, it makes this game that much more enjoyable.

So I just finished the section where
you fix your sheikah slate and gain the camera function
but I feel like my character is very underpowered. I still have the same clothes I started the game with and a few not very effective weapons. I also seem to not be able to gain that many rupees. Anybody have any tips?

Also I got a ruby for getting the season pass should I sell it immediately or hold on to it?

the density of this game versus the size of it is out of control. I hiked today around the northwest to the southeast via the western border and, small adventures counted, it took most of Sunday. What a game.

Also, there's probably been a lot written about this game, so here's a small thing: the names of all the landmarks on the map that are slowly revealed as you zoom in give the world such a nice implied history (versus a bunch of anonymous landmarks).

Thanks, I changed the bow and the first person view is gone now, even switched back to the bow I was equipping and no first person view. I think it's a bug.

Were you using the Phrenic Bow? When I was having issues with getting back into third person view, I found a thread on Gamefaqs where someone said it's a feature on the Phrenic Bow, and it turned out that there's the bow I was using. I haven't tried the same bow again yet though.

Is it just me or is the game like SUPER stingy with arrows. I'm at an area where it's plainly obvious you need to "use arrow to kill dude on wall", but I'm out of arrows. Like wtf, that's not cool. :( Give me arrows, don't make me spend my (no) cash on hand for them.
