Thought: I think the game is most fun with less than five hearts. I've done a few three-heart challenges in Zelda games before, but they've never felt like the way the game was meant to be played (so to speak). But now that I've accumulated more hearts - especially considering the reward for the Divine Beast Ruta - the danger level has been reduced considerably.

If I replay BotW, I will probably do so without upgrading my hearts at all. Or maybe this will be the fulcrum of the hard mode update. I'd definitely try that.

This game just vacuums up my time. Hours and hours just disappear and feel like mere minutes. I played for six hours last night without realizing it, and once I did, I was mad I didn't have more time.

Even when I was enthralled with other games - like Bloodborne - I never felt time slip away from me like this. I'll turn the game on and it feels like it is instantly two hours later. I'm going to work today for the first time since getting it and I'm having withdrawals.

Exactly what I wrote earlier and it's just crazy how the time goes with the game. I just get so immersed in the world I forget everything else.

Explanation for my previous statement:
Underwhelming stats. Breaks quickly. Takes 10 (real-time?) minutes to recharge. Took way too much effort/time for me to get.

How quickly?

10 minutes doesn't seem that much, considering how this game works.

When do you guys recommend starting to boost stamina over hearts? Currently on 5 hearts and ready for next upgrade

i'm currently at +2 hearts, +3 stam.

I felt like those 5 hearts a fairy revives you with shouldn't go to waste.
Also, there's a neat 3-item recipe that gives you 5 hearts.

Am I the only one that really enjoyed the little cut scenes of
the beasts taking up position
? Got a really nice SOTC feeling from them, and the music was fantastic (and hyyype).

The shrines that are locked behind riddles are really fun.

Did one earlier in an area with constant thunder and lightning, and you
have to get the lightning to hit the shrine and open it
. Problem is, the lightning one hit kills you.

So I tried upping my lightning resist, nope. Then I was like "hold on.. " and I
dropped a metal sword on top of the shrine and the lightning attracted to it and destroyed the protection around the shrine
. Pretty basic, but really cool.

Took me way too long! Reminded me of the Gerudo Hideout in Ocarina. Throwing Banana's is the easiest way to get through it though.

I loved that side quest, it took me about an hour to do and it felt really cool. The whole survival aspects of the game coming together for a challenge.

Yes, it's called
Farosh
. It appears after a certain point it seems, I'm not sure what triggers it though. It appears at midnight in one of two locations.

Thanks!

That'd be nice but they're already using literally every button for something... I'm sure they considered it during the many many years of development for this game.
Honestly, I'd trade the dpad down command from horse call to a food quick menu. Not to mention a master recipe list that you could bulk cook from. How does this game not save recipes you learn to cook?

Does this view exist in the final version?

So I brought my Switch to bed last night. Big mistake on work nights lol.

Seriously there's just so much to this game. So many distractions and interesting things to keep you exploring. Time just disappears in the real world. I do appreciate how the design is a little more forgiving for short spurts of gameplay though. If I only have a half hour, that's usually enough time to find a shrine and finish it, for example. It's just wonderful.

So today I decided to tackle some side quests, and an NPC in Zora's Domain dropped an item (not going say for those spoiler sensitive) off a certain bridge. So I decide to walk Zora river downstream, using my crynosis rune for footing, and the magnesis rune to pull up metal objects from the river.

I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did end up spending around a hour fishing for treasure chests, hooking myself up some with nice bows with attack up and durability additives. It's insane that A. The game even allows you do such a thing, and B. The developers reward you for it.

On a side-note, fish swimming upstream are easy picking for bomb fishing. :)

80 shrines down and I still look forward to every one. It's amazing that quite a few have felt like they stumped me, only for me to figure it out after a minute or two. The game has a way of making you feel so clever like that. I haven't needed to resort to any help at all.

They're going to get seriously tough to find from here on out, I wager. 20 of the ones I have left are quests that I haven't yet found, according to the adventure log. Guess I need to do some more exploring. My single biggest fear going into the game is that the majority of the puzzles / gameplay would be placed into the shrines. The fact that 42 of the shrines are 'shrine quests' was something I never predicted, and answered all of my doubts in the most stunning fashion. There's gameplay everywhere here.

Tried to start Horizon last night but realised I'm just not done with this game mentally. Not after 60 hours, which is pretty incredible. BotW is making me reassess the quality of so many other games I've played in the past, it's that much better than most of them.

Indeed, and 3-4 hours big dungeons concentrating many puzzles make all the less sense now for the same reason, even if I enjoyed the ones here a lot.

BTW, here's a quick clip I captured on how to kill an Igneo Talus in 19 seconds... I don't think it's spoilerish at all, and you don't need super-advance gear :)

so after playing almost non-stop on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th I have to go back to work today.... and can't play for another 12 hours... How the Hell am I suppose to deal with that?

Is one cucco hidden? In the cucco quest, I have caught 9 cuccos but can't find the 10th and I've searched everywhere :/

It's the person
who is a painter, you'll reconize him by his canvas :P.
This person can be found
in a number of different locations, e.g. in Kakariko in front of the goddess statue,
and
I also found him at a stable in the southern zone.

Kakariko village, the painter. Talk to him for tips. After you do (or perhaps after finding the first memory he hints at, you can find him near certain stables for more hints

Finally managed to mount one!

That's the painter, he's all over the place. Have to do his quest in Kakariko first.

Thanks, will track him down.

He's the dude who paints. He also shows you where the first
Great Fairy
is, he's in Kakariko to begin with but travels around to other places and stables and you can find him there and show him a different photo and he'll give you hints and such. I've found all them now and they're really fun to figure out by yourself too, some I figured out by geographical landmarks and wandering around a while, which felt amazing when I found one... I even randomly ran into one of them.

I figured out a few and its really fun to do by yourself, but would appreciate a bit of help from fellow hylian.

Had one of those amazing 'nice touch' moments that this game keeps throwing at me...

I'm taking my time on the main quest, trying to go on foot between locations and just discover new places. On the way to one particular location, I come across a tower covered in thorns. As I'm running towards it, I miss that there are four or five of those giant Moblins, now all alerted to my presence. One of them, having no weapons, runs over to a nearby camp, picks up a startled regular Moblin, and throws him at me. One by one, he goes through the camp, catching the now escaping Moblins, picking them up and throwing them in my direction.

Daft little touch, but I swear I laughed harder than I have at a video game in a long time.

Any tips on finding shrines? Or is the Sheikah Sensor the best way? I feel like I haven't found nearly enough as I should have with how much I've explored so far.

This game is just gif worthy \o/

No. But there are views like it.

The death mountain that made it into the game looks better than the one in this pic btw.

The death mountain looks absolutely murderous up close when you're at its base, like its fking Mordor. Just the thought of scaling it makes me giddy in excitement.

So last night I was playing in bed and saw a shooting star crash land behind a ridge in front of me. I was on my way to a shrine, but thought fuck it I'm going after this thing, cos I have no idea how rare it is. I have to pass a river, which is really wide and flowing downstream, so I'm fighting to get across. I only had 2 stamina boosting items and just as the last inch of stamina I have runs out I make it to the other side....only to be greeted by THREE Moblin stalfos AND a
Yiga swordsman
, needless to say I run for my life, but get killed by a rogue arrow...thankfully however I had a fairy so I kept running until I'd left them behind. Then commence a series of rock climbing, gliding past encampments and running for my life from enemies before morning almost hits and the light from the shooting star fades. I finally reach the spot as the sun crests over the horizon and claim my prize. I have no idea how rare this thing is, or even what to do with it, but DAMN, this game makes you feel so damn accomplished when you achieve something you set out to do. What a thrill ride.
This is what I love about open world games with a populated and interesting world. You can pretty much make your own fun.

My experience is that they can only be killed with
Guardian/Ancienr weapons, any weapon that glows blue

DO NOT LOOK AT THE SPOILER IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT HOW TO KILL THE GUARDIAN ON YOUR OWN.

You can practically use
any level of shield you find and whenever the guardian eyes glowed as it about to glow, you can reflect the beam back at it damaging the guardian in process. Lock on with equiping shield and press A when the guardian eyes glows right before it fires off a beam.

Any tips on finding shrines? Or is the Sheikah Sensor the best way? I feel like I haven't found nearly enough as I should have with how much I've explored so far.

I had the same experience, and it's because I was travelling from peak to peak and paragliding.

What you actually want to do is use your horse and follow the roads - I wish the game had been clearer about how important this can be - and talk to the NPCs you find either on the roads or in stables. They will give you quests that will often lead to shrines, or give you hints. For example one NPC told me his horse fell into a canyon with a ruined temple. When I investigated I found a hive of guardians underground and a shrine - no quest at all - but I would never have found it without that NPC.

The game is clearly designed such that they expect you to use roads, or expect you to understand that people will be using roads.

I beat the game finding only three stables after 35 hours. That was a big problem as those are the side quest / shrine quest hubs. Follow the roads and that problem disappears.

Also a surprising amount of shrines are placed under overhangs etc specifically so you can't just spot them from above. You need to get down on the ground.

If your horse is shit (most are) go to the stable in the west part of central hyrule and take the quest about a white horse there. That horse will see you through the rest of the game and frankly it's the first thing I'd do if I was starting the game again.

Playing the whole game without a decent horse, without any climbing gear, and without realising that stamina items can work mid-climb certainly complicated things for me. I basically never used food in this game.

Is there a way to [Garudo spoiler]
save bunta from prison? I got the helm and just walked out. I feel bad for her.

The attention to detail in the game is insane! How all the systems work together is masterful.

This is a tour de force in game design that was badly needed.

And I have only played a few hours together with a buddy. omg this game!

I wish this game had achievements.

I really like achievements in open world games, somehow helps with the feeling of progression.

Ewe. It doesn't help me in the feeling of progression. I leave that to the in game mechanics . Never needed achievements to feel I've progressed in a game. That's actually a foreign concept to me
