The
ball maze puzzle
?
I let the ball drop on purpose and flipped it upside down completely so I could use the flat side and flipped it on course, I'm really surprised they let me do that.

This is exactly how I did it, and it felt pretty good. The reward for trying new things and thinking outside of the box is this game is great.

I love that so many points on the map are references to previous Zelda games. It's a nice touch.

Non-story spoilers about the island to the south east of the map.

Vague details:
I notice on the map this island has a point called Kolohint Rock. Recognizing the reference to Link's Awakening (but not expecting anything) I decide to glide over there from the nearby cliff. I have such a unique experience on the island. I was not expecting anything like what happened. I love that this was included in the game and that it's likely tons of players won't even venture out there.

RECOMMEND EXPERIENCING THIS FOR YOURSELF SO DONT READ ON UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND BEING SPOILED ON THE ISLAND.

Getting stranded there with no equipment and having to scavenge for weapons and food from scratch was such a fun experience. I tried to take on the Hinox early on and got him down to 25% of health before all my weapons had run out. I then had to flee and regroup. I tackled the enemies around the rest of the island, dodging fierce lightning storms, cooked some stat boosting food and then returned to finish off the Hinox. He had fully recovered but I defeated him pretty easily.

How do you calm a horse? Just hold L or what? It keeps throwing me off. Also is there a good way to make cash early other than kill stuff and sell it? I kinda wanna make 3000

This game is indeed impressive. I decided to go on exploring a bit, there's stuff everywhere. I decided to visit the south-east of Zora's domain, it was a really exciting travel. Easy 300x2 + 100 rupies, gems, plently of stuff, and half a dozen nuts (if there's really 900, I probably miss most of them ^_^ )

But the best part was probably on the sandy beach,
the raft
!

It *is* a tribute, no?

Too bad I couldn't do anything with it yet
kinetis works, but I couldn't hit it

do i really have to go out and find the exact spots of these photographs? 😒
I love this... Too bad there's only 12 :/

I wonder if I can launch a challenge here (post a screenshot, the first to find the place post one, etc.) ;)

Sure. Theres lizalfos as well, but most enemies are variations of those. I haven't seen staple enemies like
skulltulas or deku babas
.

Yup. Haven't seen any
ReDeads, Peahats, or Darknuts
.

(Gerudo Valley spoilers below)

The big dudes in the Yiga Clan hideout remind me of Darknuts though.

Throw an apple so that it lands in front of them. Sneak up to them and mount. Keep mashing L to soothe. Try multiple times on the same horse if you don't have enough stamina. You'll tame it eventually.

There's a rupees save exploit you can do in one of the villages if you want to go that route:

Man, Mipha's voice actress is baaaaaad.

Even though some of the VO is iffy, I'm just so glad they finally went this route. While this is a fucking phenomenal game and I'm loving every minute of it, some of my excitement is more about what this foundation could mean for future games in the series and how they can improve things further now that they've taken the first steps.

The systems they've created for this game are versatile enough that I would love to see a MM-esque sequel with bigger focus on story, dungeons and in a slightly more condensed world, but with the same (perhaps further improved) amazing combat and physics. Not that I don't love the huge world and the exploration, it's just a thought in order to mix things up for the next game.

Anyone want to talk about the heavy Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind inspiration in this game? Off the top of my head:
  • General Miyazaki-esque feel in graphics and music
  • Link even looks like Nausicaa in his blue outfit and no hat
  • Glider is pretty reminiscent of Nausicaa's glider (though not quite as cool)
  • Post-apocalyptic, ancient robots, nature themes all recall Nausicaa

I've put roughly 20 hours into the game and I've come away rather depressed. I don't know why but it's just not clicking for me despite the fact that it's practically my dream game. I adore the design of the world, the art style and lighting is often jaw dropping, there's hidden stuff everywhere, etc. So why am I not in love with it? I'm not angry or disappointed, just awfully depressed.

The more I play the game, the more I run into areas where the game runs at 60fps during gameplay and cutscenes. I just go 'why did Nintendo leave it like this?' It's just bizarre.

Man, FUCK WEAPON DURABILITY! I'm in a shrine that requires the korok leaf to complete it (and it's a rather long shrine filled with directing floating rafts around spikes with the korok leaf.) Guess what just broke... the leaf they give you at the start of the shrine.

How many hearts do I need to
get the Master Sword?

You didn't used it properly, it can't break if you don't touch something solid with it. You can use it as long as you want if you don't touch something while waving it

I put so many hours in to this game I dreamed about it twice this weekend. As I was going down some steps this morning I thought to myself "Oh I should have paraglided down this." I experienced the Tetris Effect again as I was out getting lunch today, though I don't remember what it was.

I'm just gonna read a book or some shit tonight.

Funny you mention dreaming about the game, I remember that last night at some point in one of my dreams I was trying climb something BOTW style.Think last time a game made it into my dreams was Quake 2 many many moons ago...

Okay, the Stable with the (Southern region spoiler)
Horse race is getting to me. My fucking horse won't go over the hurdle that sits on the slight elevation. What do I do?

And how do I apply the prize I get from beating 1'30"?

Is it just me or does the Wii U version of the game look incredibly washed out? My TV is calibrated and no matter what I do the game looks very flat at times.

Yes. I've noticed this as well... very washed out. My TV is calibrated, and everything else looks great on it (PS4, XBone, PS3... even other WiiU games)

Does the Switch version look less washed out?

I'm not sure if I remember this correctly, but doesn't this have something to do with RGB settings? I think Wii U supports Limited RGB only, so you should change the setting on your TV to limited too.

I didn't know korok leaves broke, I think I've had mine since the beginning of the game.

Anyone knows where are the other great fairies
outside of the one in kakariko
?

just a general direction, no specifics please

Is anyone NOT enjoying the game that much? I just really dislike some of the mechanics in the game which cause me to not like it very well.

Yeah, that
race is super finicky. If you're not lined up perfectly, you'll lose. My best time is 1:32.

I've done just about every side quest in Kakariko. How do I get the orb from Impa's?

Also, where did the Korok seed guy go? Been so long since I first saw him that I cant remember what he said.

I've had the same Korok leaf since the Plateau. Were you whacking it on something instead of hitting "air"?

Yeah, for me it's because you feel so alone in the world. There's no one to bond with. I think my best friend is the horse I tamed in the beginning. The main quest is more about redemption than comradery and kinship which is bumming me out. Don't really give a rat's ass about this version of Zelda, honestly.

Killed myself to restart the shrine, and I guessed it auto saved at a point where the korok leaf is in my inventory but is badly damaged.

I wasn't at first but once I had the time to take more of it in it started to click. What mechanics are bothering you? Guessing breakable weapons, which can be a pain, especially when you want to use it for materials instead and cannot find the ideal tool.

Played around last night and beat the first trial with a lot of shenanigans in between.

Oh boy, this is gonna be great isn't it?
