The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT| A Link from the Past

Just did the Moderate Test of Strength shrine. Wtf? That was supposed to be moderate? I went through all my fairies and a good portion of my food. What's next, the moderate calamity?

My most disappointing experience with Breath of the Wild is that the Switch won't let me record videos of it. There are so many amazing things happening every time I sit down and play this.

I dunno, I like hearing what people have experienced more than just seeing it.

I let my old roommate test out the game on switch for his first time and he managed in the first 10 minutes get my horse and almost run it off a cliff. He didn't think to call it over so he got on, but the horse buckled and they fell down the cliff. Horse didn't make it and Link died tumbling down a steep ravine.

RIP Oreo ;__;

(I reloaded my save file because I wasn't gonna just take that.)

Yes

Let us know your thoughts afterwards

Will do for sure! Hoping it does sway me back. I love 2d Zelda games, I think the series just works better as 2d.

Not like I didn't enjoy each 3d Zelda, but the fun has been fading and getting less enjoyment out of each.

Stay posted for Thursday for first impressions.

So, just completed the game. Endgame thoughts below, alongside some questions:

Gotta be honest, the final boss was pretty weak. Calamity Ganon's design was pretty rad (love the Guardian fusion!), but I don't think the second phase telegraphed the "dodge and flurry attack" solution well enough (although maybe that's because I'm terrible at that and avoid whenever possible, lol).

Dark Beast Ganon was very underwhelming as well. VERY cool setpiece in taking place on Hyrule Field and riding your horse, but that's all it is: just a setpiece without much substance. He never made any deliberate attack directed at me until the very end, and it just felt really sterile. Music also started off on the wrong foot, and I happen to quite like the game's score.

That said, I'm so thrilled with how the rest of the game turned out that I can forgive its limp conclusion. I imagine the final exchange between Link and Zelda will be much more powerful when I've regained all my memories (I noticed the crying scene from the January trailer wasn't present), which brings me to one of my questions: how much does the ending change depending on your level of completion? No explicit details necessary.

Also, is there a New Game+ or anything like that? I noticed there's a star on my file but it just led me back to my pre-Ganon fight. Regardless, I absolutely can't wait to jump back in tomorrow and DO EVERYTHING.

*Major Test of Strength*

"pppppffftttttt ok"

*precedes to waste 45 minutes dying to a triple wielding guardian*

GOD DAMN IT

*plays over the weekend learns controls, dodging, flurry attacks and perfects them for the most part*

*goes back to Major Strength Test........proceeds a long battle.......only to come out.....completely untouched*

It finally clicked. Took a couple hours but once you exit the 'training' area the game is just crazy. So. Much. Freedom!

At first it's like "cool game, sure", but then suddenly it's cocaine.

Just found Rito village. The town design in this game is outstanding. I was not expecting that to be the village while I was exploring.

I love how random this game is.

I walked around and saw:

- A dragon flying around
- A blue bunny that I couldn't hit
- An NPC that was part of the "Yiga Clan", lol. I won't spoil what happens (if you don't already know) but that completely caught me off guard

Hell, I think I'm get more fun exploring the land than following the story line right now.

Went into one today that was all water on the floor. Used Cryonis like it was my job and picked away with arrows. Had gotten completely wrecked in a previous major test and gave up out on the shore. Just approaching things differently makes a world of difference.

No question the RGB setting in the Switch is borked. Next time you are on the game over screen, go into RBG, change it to limited, check the black level, than switch back to Full and it won't look any different.

I had to switch my TV settings but the first 7 hours I played with a washed out image.

Wow the game looks so much better now.

1. He can be found on the road that splits of from Kakariko and Hateno Village. Going towards Kakariko he'll be near a cliff.

2. Yes, as for the
Hylian Shield
there is a merchant in
Terray Town
. that will sell it to you for a cool
3000
rupees. My word of advice is not to use the shield to parry or take guardian laser hits. Regular combat will extend the hell out of the life.

Dont use it against guardians? I have only really fought one guardian and it was with that as I was running away. What should I use for deflecting guardian lasers?

So I'm probably picking this up on Wednesday. For a guy that believes each 3d Zelda has been the exact same game with some different items thrown in, and growing tired of the formula, this will sway me back into the camp of liking Zelda again?
Maybe if you like open world games

The damn thing is really susceptible to freezing weapons. Freeze it, pull out some high damage two handed weapon, charge it up, and spin around. Rince and repeat until you kill it.

Literally any other shield will do. It's just that these attacks do insane damage to shields as you already seen. If you parry perfectly, even a pot lid will do.

I don't feel like wading through a bunch of spoilers, but can you permanently kill the Yiga Clan from showing up? I've unlocked the map, done all the dungeons, and like 50 shrines in. I'm just looking for the last few shrines, but the stupid trash mob clan makes it hard to just run away and putting a damper on my exploration fun.

thats until they go full goku mode and just blast unlimited barrages of beams....you have to run around.....go in for a few swings......run around and repeat lol

Getting a bunch of (weapon spoiler)
ancient arrows and one-shotting Guardians
feels so damn good.

*walks into shrine*

"A Major Test of Strength"

*walks out of shrine*

I actually love these now cause they give like 3 good weapons at a time and I'm at the point where I usually only use one. First time was a nightmare though

End game spoilers:
I think I just accidentally fought Ganon, lol. I was exploring Hyrule Castle and strolled into the Sanctum, fought the three dungeon bosses I haven't fought before (coincidence?) and the third one killed me.

That I do. Love me some fallout, skyrim, gta.

I really enjoy exploring, and that's something that's always been missing from 3d Zelda games in any meaningful way.

well then my advice is to leave this thread and enjoy Breath of the Wild when you get it

if you feel yourself getting bored in the first area before you get the para glider just keep on truckin'

post how much you're loving the game your impressions later ;p

This game is dangerous. Thought I'd play for a bit after work and 3 hours ended up passing by.

That is exactly what happened to me tonight. In the 3.5 hours I only did 1 Side Quest and advanced the Main Quest once. Most of the time was exploring the mountains near a village, climbing up hills to find things hidden. Fount a lot of treasure chests and other rare items high up in the mountains. You can easily get lost (time wise) in the game and also just roam around not doing quests, but just exploring.

One thing that bugs me, no caves as of yet. You would think with all that real estate they could of made some caves to explore. I only have 3 zones opened so maybe there are some caves, but I explored a ton and no caves. It would of been nice to have a few caves per zone that you adventure through, fighting enemies and at the end a special treasure or something.

Boss question about the dungeons, mainly the northeastern one:
I thought the boss was trivial by just shooting it with bomb arrows. Are the other bosses harder than that?

Wait, you can deflect guardian beams with ANY shield? Why does the Guardian Shield specifically mention it can deflect guardian beams?

Anyone know how to get a noble pursuit? Someone told me to check gerudo town but I looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything.

You can parry with any of them, my guardian shield broke before I tested it but maybe just blocking with that sends the beams another direction.

Anyone know if there's a shrine in Lanaryu Promenade? The sensor goes off but I see nothing. Also what to do about the one near the fairy fountain.

You can deflect a guardian beam with a perfect parry with any shield. I believe Guardian Shield deflects beams while on guard.

A guardian shield is destroyed in one hit by a guardian beam. At least it was when I faced a Guardian on the way to
Goron City.

Same thing happened to me, but I had more than enough food to finish the fight and end the game.

Shit, I didn't know you could deflect beams with a parry. Tbh, I haven't parried anything since the tutorial for it, lol. I should probably work on that. Would make these tests of strength more doable.

There is. You need to follow the golden rule of video games to reach it.
Check behind the waterfall
.

Test of Strength always ends up with the guardian charging for a strong beam blast at the end. Always satisfying to end the battle with a perfect parry.

I've got so many fucking outfits in my inventory, jesus

If it's on land, complete the gap in the circle with another rock. If tight circle in water, throw rock into circle.
Where are you getting so many clothes? I feel like I've been all over but I've only done a single dungeon. I have like .. 3 sets of clothes maybe...
