Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

It's literally ME1 without the clumsy combat and exploration gameplay, but keeping everything that made ME1 good.

But GAF gotta spread those gifs around and cancel those pre-orders I guess

It's perfectly valid to cancel a pre-order due to lack of quality in certain areas (animations, models, writing) and abundant technical issues. I haven't cancelled mine, but I understand why some people would do so.

Contacted EA, i now have less than 11 hours of gametime.. spent alot of time trying to optimize my game so they restored full 10 hours!

I have done my fair share of making gifs and laughing at some of bad animations and so forth, but I am still keeping my pre-order and am hopeful for the game. I would so love to be surprised by it.

I honestly enjoyed it despite the awkward cutscenes. My main complaint is dof makes things pixelated with really bad artifacts on screen. everything is set to high.

I like hearing that.

Thread got Carlyle-d. lol

Sure it is reasonable! Completely reasonable. I just don't see the fun in canceling your preorder but then continuing to haunt the message boards just to parade rain, sling mud, troll, and generally shit on other people's experience. And Redundantly so. But... forums I guess.

Again, of course, they have the right to do all this everybody's got opinions, but I don't understand the impulse to so beyond further validating their cancellation.

Yeah, from everything I've heard and seen, this game boils down to the skill trees, loot, exploration, and sense of mystery/wonder from ME1 and the combat from ME3 Multiplayer, but with everything improved.

I just realized something.

The crew onboard the Nexus and Heleus may be the only ones in the entire galaxy who avoided the Mass Effect 3 ending!

I haven't played the full retail game, only early access but it was super great to me. I think your gonna dig this!

More and more I am getting the impression that behind all of the noise over the animations, bugs and some of the voice acting that there is a great game in there. Ultimately, I have to pay attention to good impressions as well and really like what I am hearing.

Not "everything", ME1 didn't have shitty writing, cardboard characters or a dumb fanfic tier story.

not a story spoiler, but I hit a wall and I dont know what to do.

I just found
a place where I can build an outpost on Eos. An audiolog played but got cut off. If I travel too far away, it gets extremely radiated and tells me to return to the mission area. But I dont see anything that I can do. Are you not supposed to be able to do this part in the trial?

Have you even played it? Because you had to read my reply in the other thread to even understand what the pathfinder was. ME1 has fucking Kaiden and space jesus. And no, that's not me retroactively throwing ME1 under the bus, it's that being reductive about any product leads to stupid shit.

Basically the areas with high radiation are the natural barriers for the trial

I think it's fine for people to cancel if those things matter to them, but I do believe that the problems with the game are overblown. It has issues, but the game itself is a great reboot of the Mass Effect franchise.

Bruh don't bother, that person has been attacking people left and right in this thread for not liking a game they spent 10 hours playing. Because s/he knows best for us. 😱

ah, thats crappy. Thought I would be able to get everything on the planet done other than the main story. Off to multiplayer then I guess. I think ive done everything that can be done in the allowed area

I keep reading comments like this outside of all the noise and it's honestly starting to feel like AC Unity all over again. Only then, all of the hilarious bug memes and such did not start until after the game launched. All the while I was playing and seeing none of that shit and never did.

ME1 could get by with weaker characterization because, for example, Tali was the first Quarian we'd ever seen, so just getting a culture info dump from her was enough to make her an interesting character. Even hearing Ashley's complaints about working with aliens gave us great insight into the universe of Mass Effect. Wrex was probably the only well-defined character in the lot.

By comparison, Drack can't be just another hard-headed, violent Krogan or PeeBee another biotic Asari researcher. We're already familiar with both species and archetypes. Liam and Cora also fail to offer any insights into the universe of ME/ME:A, at least in the trial (Vetra just has one short scene in the trial, as forced as Drack's).

I don't think he is referring to you.

I dunno but it's been a general feeling of deflection and projection in this thread from the more overzealous fans that want to brush away criticism by saying we haven't played the full game. Clearly it's what bioware or EA considered the strong entry to the series to give it an early trial?

This game runs so much better than Unity. I've been playing on XB1, hardly the belle of the platform ball, and it's been pretty damn smooth aside from some cutscene frame hitches.

I knew what the pathfinder was, what I didn't know was the cliche as hell "secretly developed super AI in the brain, passed from father to son" stupid shit. How could I not know what the Pathfinder is? Watch any chunk of gameplay and all you would hear is " oh my god a pathfinder, oh hey you're the new pathfinder, a pathfinder just what we need, pathfinder pathfinder pathfinder.

I dont have to play the game to recognize awful writing. What brought me to the series in the first place was excellent writing, unique characters and effective world building, none of which seem to be present in andromeda.

I like it. I actually compare it closer to Inquisition. Which I loved so this game is for me. The animations are a little rough, no doubting that.

I actually only got one occurrence of awkward animation and it was from PeeBee smiling really goofy. I do get some pretty bad lag during combat, but that might be my 1060 graphics card not having enough oomph.

Can't wait to continue on Tuesday.

Ah so you haven't played it. You should try it before writing it off.

That is also where I will be playing it, so good news. Also, I used Unity as an example because I actually really enjoyed that game, despite all of the complaints and memes that surrounded it. I never had any of those bugs while playing.

Things I still want know:

How smart is the companion AI especially when its taxed?
How tedious is resource gathering? If it is too tedious is there a way to gather resources which isnt just a time sink like DAI/ME2?
How much does it take to fully upgrade equipment?
Do companions have unique abilities?
Is the companion dialogue/banter improved enough to warrant them tagging along in what is effectively a one man army TPS?
Can I get mad air time with ma Mako :) ?

(From the trial)

The resource gathering is tedious both on planet and off planet. Off planet there is so far just one random planet with minerals in it. Kind of a simplified version of the Mass effect 2 scan. On planet you drive around your nomad while doing a similar scan to Mass effect 2. It's as tedious as there.

AI would constantly get itself killed when I battled a certain miniboss. You can recall them to you but she would just get herself killed again.

AI had the same skills you could get but they may have special abilities after doing their special mission but I doubt it.

To add to this, you can straight up buy resources on the nexus

I might in the future but there's no way I'm gambling my 60 dollars based on what I've seen of the writing and characters so far, especially when there's already so many incredible games out there right now.
