I saw a lot of hate for him on Twitter (surprise, surprise). Why was he hated to much? It's obvious he's done a lot of good for the world.

I'm curious too. On Facebook there seems to be a trend of religious people hoping he burns in hell and calling him Satan, saying they've never been happy someone died.

What the hell did he do?

The New York Times estimated in November 2006 that his total charitable donations amount to $900 million over his lifetime
Sounds like a pretty good dude. Hope the rest of the family carries on the legacy of doing a lot of charity.

The billionaire grandson of the world's first billionaire (afaik). It's not surprising that people hate him. I don't know enough about him to form an opinion.

I was also unaware that he was even alive.

Probably the same people who think a bunch of rich families control the FED and therefore the Dollar. A co-worker believed this shit.

Because some people think anyone who is rich is automatically evil. Even though he gave millions upon millions away.

1) He's rich
2) He's a capitalist
3) His brother, Nelson Rockefeller, ran against Richard Nixon for GOP primary and lost. Nelson and David were probably the most well known liberal, North East Republicans when that was still a thing.

Many people will see "Rich capitalist, co-founded Chase Bank, brother was prominent Republican..." and want to hate him, and so they won't accept anything else.

If you don't want to hate him:
  • Has donated nearly $1b to charity in his lifetime... The figure sits just north of $900m, but posthumous donations are likely to spill well over $1b.
  • If you've ever visited the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan, or been influenced by contemporary art, David Rockefeller has been the chair for nearly all of his adult life, as his mother founded the museum, and he's recently donated $77m to the MoMA in their last capital campaign. It's one of the best museums in the world, the museum would not exist without him.
  • His most recent foundations are focused on access to health care, global poverty, and nutrition in the developing world.

He outlived Rockefeller Republicanism.

Had he died in 1968, he would have outlived Rockefeller Republicanism.

J.D never made the $1bn treshold.
he was just shy according to estimates ;)

but well it would be roughly $500bn today

hope i will be still alive, when the first person reach 1trillion

So like 10 years or so?
And why would you be hoping to see someone horde all that money as opposed to donating it?

10 years?
bill gates didn't come close to 100bn at the dot.com bubble

you seem to optimistic here. i do think this could happen before 2050, tho
and i don't want to see someone hord that kind of money. i want to see someone make that kind of value

edit:
and by the way none of the billionairs today, will make it
i'm pretty certain about that

The first trillionaire would only be able to pay off 5% of the US debt.

and because this won't happen in the next few year, it will be even less % of the US debt when it occures

500 billion, my god...

And when/if someone invents sustainable green energy and a way to safely remove C02 from the atmosphere while we transition to it I hope both will become trillionaires. They would deserve it and I'd kiss their ass/feet/whatever until the day I die.

Rockefeller died peacefully of natural causes, that was the end of his chapter. And that's the guy you want to name your company after?

The mere fact that this guy had nearly a billion dollars to give away to charities speaks to the unimaginable wealth he accumulated at the expense of the mass of poor.

His wealth was and is a total and utter waste of resources on the backs of the hungry. Nevermind the political damage.
