Why wouldn't you be able to download both the game and the patch if you buy it digitally then ?
Do you see where I'm going? The 13 GB download is considered a patch, so the eShop doesn't count it for the game size in the listing.
The cutscenes are all in real time, there's a reason why the load times on the WiiU were that bad every time a new one would play. It's possible that the 13GB patch is technically the voice acting in other languages, but 13GB is a ridiculous amount for just the audio. Unless they went with uncompressed audio, which would be outright insanity.
?
What?
Let's say you buy, I don't know, Hyrule Warrirors Switch. I don't know, any game.
Let's say the game is 10 GB but it has 5 GB worth of patches.
The eShop will download the 10 GB game AND the 5 GB patch, BUT the eshop listing will show 10 GB, not 15 GB.

Yeah, if the game is sold digitally, wouldn't it just download the whole game at once? Would Nintendo really approve a game that downloads/lists at 7GBs, launches, then immediately downloads twice that amount again (another 13GBs)? Seems like a very awkward way to handle it, but maybe that's how it works. Also makes me wonder why not just do 1GB with a 20GB supplemental download, wouldn't that be even cheaper?

Which is horrible, don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to understand the situation.Open World is on card, missions need to be downloaded. That's my prediction.
So... Are they including optional higher res textures for docked mode or something?
Being a beta tester for new consoles must suck.
All this commotion for a game that's not even worth playing but that's all you've got right now.
But if it's a day one and mandatory patch, it would be included in the file size. I mean, Xenoblade X had something similar. If you bought the game physically, you had the option to download 10GB of patches to improve loading times and textures streaming. However, the digital download was 22GB and directly included the patches. There wasn't an option to download it without the patch.
Yeah, there's that too.

That wasn't a patch. It was just the equivalent of installing the game to improve loading speeds.

No, you are wrong. This is hard to explain, but hang with me here. But if it's a day one and mandatory patch, it would be included in the file size. I mean, Xenoblade X had something similar. Hmm... Here's hoping it runs well on Switch. I bought it for Wii U, but between the minute long load screens, crashes, bad frame pacing, and screen tearing I couldn't play it. The frame pacing and tearing made me sick, the load times and crashes made me realize that no matter how good the game could be, it wasn't worth the headache. (Literal and figurative)Probably not, it runs at the same resolution in either mode, according to reports.
I see you haven't played LEGO City Undercover before.

All the XCX "patches" ARE in the disc, because that data IS a duplicate of stuff that is already on the disc. It's like an installation for faster loads, except because the Wii U doesn't have an install system, instead of copying the stuff from the disc, you download it again. But it's exactly the same data that is already on the disc. You with me here?
Okay, so, because the eShop game is exactly the same as the disc version, that means that, yes, you are getting the content of the "patches", but only because the disc also has it in the first place. You COULD download the patches while having the digital version of the game, but it would be useless, the load times would be identical.
I hope you understand me, I know it's a pretty convoluted explanation so re-read it a few times I guess?

All that pent up aggression towards the Switch was freed... ...we had people suggest that Nintendo should change their whole console design because WB decided that people need to download extra data at launch to play a game.
Probably not, it runs at the same resolution in either mode, according to reports.

You can but the eshop shows only the "main" download
1. What's the difference if you buy the console later? This isn't a problem of the console
2. It's a great game
I don't know if this is beta testing. I feel like this is just going to keep happening.
tell us how you really feel about Nintendo.
There's already some great games on the Switch, you might've heard of this one called Zelda Breath of the Wild, it's pretty good.
Also Lego City Undercover is the best Lego game by far, I can tell you probably never played it.
I dunno, LCU is the best LEGO game that came out last generation. It's certainly worth playing. All this commotion for a game that's not even worth playing but that's all you've got right now.

It's weird, but someone mentioned this is common practice for mobile apps.it's not about that, it's the store showing the 'game' size without any kind of day one update applied, or at least something along those lines.
How do you feel about buying a retail game that may or may not work without a huge, larger then the game itself update to function? What if you were away from an internet source, on holiday, at another family home with poor net access?
Nah, I'm not really into shovelware games myself.
Don't feed the troll, people, mods can deal with it.

well this update was pretty useful.
PR person: "You don't need the update to play the game!"
So it's just 13 GB of added bullshit cause you don't need it to play?
He didn't use the word update!! Omg since when did we put words into people's mouths so much in one topic. He said game!
"Players who purchase Lego City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play," a company spokesperson told us.
Reading the quote again:
What if they meant, if you buy the retail game, you do not need to purchase the game off the eShop hence the phrase "download the game to play".
I would be laughing so hard if that's what they meant.
The XB1 console itself needed a day 1 patch to work iirc. Some games are nearly unplayable without a day 1 patch. This isn't new, most of are just always connected and don't think much about it. The collectors at 2050 will have huge problems with many games and consoles, if the servers are shut down which seems to be what everyone is scared of.
Wasn't the title updated a little too soon?
I think that's exactly what they thought. Why would they think someone like Eurogamer would ask something that stupid? Fortunately they weren't satisfied with the answer.
Lego City Undercover Switch cover mentions 13 GB download [Up: Who the fuck knows anymore]

That Zelda game you mentioned? It's also on another console, being a Nintendo fan you must have heard of it, the WiiU? So yeah, it's a port.
The Lego game is also a port too.
Whether or not it's clear cut, it's a very important addition to the supposed claim in the OP. I mean we already have over two dozen pages of people slamming WB/Nintendo, over something that may now not even be true? Or it may? Either way, the pitchforks need to be kept slightly at bay for the moment I think. Ignoring it and continuing on like the thread was going seems a bit off until that's clarified further at least.
