Makes me wonder if the most damning Trump-Russia stuff is about to come out, and Trump is preemptively going all out to prove he's not a puppet.

Never forget, the Russians also hacked some of the Republicans and the Russians aren't on anybody's side.
Comey later added that "there was evidence of hacking directed at state-level organizations, state-level campaigns, and the RNC, but old domains of the RNC, meaning old emails they weren't using. None of that was released."

"Restraint? Why are you so concerned with saving their lives? The whole idea is to kill the bastards. At the end of the war if there are two Americans and one Russian left alive, we win!" - General Thomas S. Power head of Strategic Command during the height of the Cold War.

Fucking nuts.

Well this attack isn't going to take down Assad.

Most people are just worried about escalation.

I'm pissed off at the absolute hypocrisy of Trump. He felt compassion after seeing the dead bodies, but doesn't want to take these people into our country to escape that mess? Fuck him.

This part bothers me as well. If we're going to put a foot forward, we should allow refugees to come in.

Starting to understand how someone felt in the summer of 1914, or when the reichstag burned.

We live in interesting times. You don't want to live in interesting times.

Always been in interesting times. Two nuclear bombs went off during World War II. I can't imagine what social media would have been like during that era.

MSNBC reporting that the airstrips were not targeted or cratered, just associated infrastructure like fuel pumps.

This was also the most limited of strike options presented to POTUS.

♪ CRY ME A RIVVVVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These airstrikes are really fucking with the Trumpkins heads tonight. Many are staunchly pro-Putin/pro-Assad so to see their man-crush use the US Armed Forces against their heroes like this is like a literal kick in the balls for them.

Of course this was always going to happen. For some time now we have seen the far right in many countries form a loose alliance and shill for one-another in the media. Farage gobbing away on Fox News for Trump, Wilders shilling for Trump, Le Pen visiting Crimea for Putin, AfD repeating the usual RT talking points and Trump expressing approval of Brexit. For such staunch isolationists they sure didn't mind going global in some sort of far-right international movement.

But everyone forgets they are [insert country name here] first and everyone else last. Trump, despite being uber pally with Putin, will carry out measures that Putin would oppose and vice-versa. This little far-right populist "movement" has run out of steam, a resurgent global economy is diminishing their voices as public anger in mainstream politicians wanes. With these jerks fighting amongst themselves maybe we can finally be rid of this Alt-Right trash as well.

It annoys me that people are treating this issue with some kind of partisanship. I hate Trump. Capital H hate him. But he absolutely responded in the right way even though his attempt at banning refugees makes him an incredible hypocrite. Chemical warfare can not be tolerated. Though it's sad that that's where we draw the line as those in the middle continue to die due to very conventional means.

I'd love to see this followed up with U.N. back troops moving into the area to force a ceasefire in the area. The world has ignored the suffering of that country for far too fucking long, and it's sad that it took a major chemical attack for anyone to do anything. It's also sad that this will amount to little more than a single retaliatory strike.

Either way, it's nice to see something being done.

Feel pretty similar. I hate Trump and he's a complete hypocrite on Syria, but the world has stood idly by for 5 years as Assad has murdered thousands of civilians with gas attacks. I don't have a solution to the problem, but tacitly supporting Assad with inaction isn't the solution either.

You'd really rather the united Nations do something here, but they've proven unwilling to do so.

Likewise, I don't think the hyperbole from everybody on the left helps. Came home to my wife crying because she's reading everybody all of her friends on Facebook saying how we're going to war now, how the draft starts tomorrow, and Russia going to launch retaliatory strikes against the us, etc. You didn't see any of that when we bombed libya 6 years ago, and that was a much larger effort. We bombed targets in Libya in january with B2 bombers which killed 80 people (likely ISIS). You didn't hear a peep about that from anybody i just don't think the incessant hyperbole helps.

God damn.

This isn't hypocrisy.

To be honest, I don't the comparisons are fair. The situation in Syria since the original red line has deteriorated, and whilst people can argue about the response to a chemical attack, it is unlikely they'd be as reserved or cautious in responding to another chemical attack, especially when they may question whether they could have avoided it had they acted years ago.

God damn.

This is the reason I'm glad that military intervention is happening under a republican president. The air strikes will have full support of congress now and also wake up the Trump support base to the horrible atrocities that have been going on there.

And dont forget trump banned syrian refugees and has a task force to go to their doors. And pissed off all of our allies, along with NATO and UN, by being an asshole. But russia is cool?

If we get attacked it is all fucked. IC needs to come in hard and soon. Get this guy out of office.

It sounds like they would have needed to use aircraft to crater the runways. That would have been extremely risky because Syria has Russian anti-aircraft batteries.

LOL is that a real quote!?

EDIT: OMG That is a real quote LOL... Jesus help us

This wasn't an attack on Putin/Russia. You don't give a heads up to people you're going to start a war with. It's most likely over. That was it.

That's not what's happening. His core support base doesn't give a flying fuck about those atrocities, atrocities that have never actually been hidden. "Let them fight their own civil wars". That's the MO.

Always been in interesting times. Two nuclear bombs went off during World War II. I can't imagine what social media would have been like during that era.

We had a good run between the economic collapse of the USSR and when America lost its collective shit on 9/11. But it's only been recently that nuclear powers are wratcheting up tensions.

Doesn't help when the current administration and alt-right is looking to dismantle the global institutions set up to diffuse and deter mutually assured destruction.

Doomsday clock be moving towards midnight again.

It's too bad you edited out your UN army brokering a ceasefire idea because I was going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh my heart away while quoting it.

This is why armchair Generals don't work everybody.

It was a bad idea being made in an overly emotional response. It happens sometimes. :-P

Which was exactly the stated Trump position as of last week.

Just before the chemical attack.

a lot of his vocal supporters are pretty pissed about this. Not saying they aren't going to vote for him. But many are openly saying they didn't want this.

Don't people remember Operation Desert Fox when the US bombed Iraq in 1998, at the height of the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal? This is the same thing, with Trump bombing Syria to distract us from his failures...

Syria was attacking its citizens at the time using Chlorine Gas. Obama approached congress for approval of a strike, but was denied by these people supporting this recent strike that occurred without their approval. Obama's goal was for regime change through political means via Geneva talks. Tillerson is now pushing for the same thing.

Trump, despite shouting against this sort of action for five years, just went along with Obama's Syrian strategy... and Republican members of congress are suddenly changing their tune.

Good! Let them burn themselves. One way or another they need to realize that their god emperor is not perfect.

I meant that if Trump is inadvertently pissing off the Russians they may decide to release whatever emails they got from the RNC and state parties and cause even more chaos. Trump and the Republicans seem screwed either way when it comes to Russia.

Why dont you take it a step further and say the Americans were the ones to use the chemical weapons, oh yeah and that Russia is secretly together on this with Trump.
