It's bad but not that bad.
Sorry but comparing GFWL to current windows store is insulting to GFWL - at least it somewhat worked

But GAF said with play anywhere the Xbox One is pointless?

A lot of unfair characterizations here. The fact of the matter is, the problem of transferring data from a remote server to a local device remains an essentially unsolved problem in the domain of computer science.
Indeed, some of the greatest minds of our generation, including Andrew Tridgell, Abhay Bhushan, Tim Berners-Lee and Bram Cohen, have all attempted to tackle this problem but as of yet, no practical, reliable mechanism exists for solving the aforementioned problem.
So let's maybe cool it with the Microsoft ridicule, shall we?

.I understand that windows is a complex package to manage but how can they not make a functional download service after all this time.
Maybe they're saving the big exciting store update for E3.

Bought a Forza Horizon 3 code, redeemed it and started the download.
First, for some reason it listed two active downloads on the "Downloads & Updates" page of the store app, one was "Forza Horizon 3" and the other "Forza Horizon 3 - Standard Edition". Weird glitch I thought but it seemed to have been downloading the game fine.
Then, when the download hit about 49GB of the total 52GB, the download reset and started from the very beginning again. So, yeah, that's not very fun, especially when you don't have the fastest internet.
I've had the same issue with Quantum Break about a year or so ago but I mean ... it's April 2017 now, I'm running the latest version 1703 (aka Creators Update) and Microsoft has still not been able to provide a properly functioning store, at least for apps larger than a few hundred megabytes. That honestly blows my mind, and not in a good way.

Have you ran update on the Windows Store app? The Windows Store app should have an update.
Yes, everything's up to date.

Its funny because in the past 2 years there has been like 3 other PC gaming clients released that put Win10 store to shame. Epic Launcher, Bethesda launcher and GOG galaxy all make the Win10 store look like a joke in terms of gaming. Microsoft is the largest software company in the world with thousands of engineers yet they can't release a PC client that can properly download, install and update games. Amateur hour at Redmond.
Having the 70 something GB Gears 4 download get to 90%, 4 or 5 times, then start itself over, is what made me refund the game and swear off ever using the store again.
OP, your double FH3 issue, was it actually downloading two 50+gb files, or was one maybe an unlock key?
Interesting. I would note that you should only download the "Standard Edition" manually, don't depend on that "app"...they did Forza stupid.
The progress bar was 1:1 identical for the two download entries, both showed a total size of 52GB but it only downloaded the files once because it only reserved 52GB on the SSD. There wasn't enough disk space for it to download 100GB+ anyhow.
I aborted the download after the reset, rebooted and am now downloading "Forza Horizon 3". If that doesn't work either, I'll give the "Standard Edition" one a try.
It's more a topic of software engineering instead of developer competence here actually.
Windows Store is handled in Windows division, even though it is used to distribute games from XBOX division. The user story "As a gamer I should be able to download a large game package quickly, reliably and conveniently" is of very low priority for the Store team, as how well Microsoft performs in PC gaming is actually none of their business.
Long story short: XBOX team has the responsibility (promote PC/Windows gaming under XBOX brand) but not the duty; Windows team has the duty (improve Store performance) but not the responsibility. A typical YP problem of modern business management: "It is YOUR PROBLEM now".

It doesn't need to be complicated. Valve has pioneered the landscape and how it should be done on PC for more than a decade. All others followed suit like Blizzard, EA, Ubisoft etc.
Phil needs to put his foot down and somehow have windows division delete all GAMING from the win10 store. Leave the store for movies, music, tv and apps. The Xbox app needs to do all the gaming related things. You have a solid client with it. There is no need for gamers to ever go into the Win10 store. There is no need to create some bloated mess of a store that relies on the snail pace update system within win10 like they have now.
instead I grabbed a torrent with the .appx file and sideloaded it onto my PC...
This worked? Wow, I'm surprised they aren't uniquely signed to stop anyone from doing this.

Yeah I had an absolute nightmare trying even find the option to download my copy of FH3. It didn't appear in my library, no matter how many times I refreshed, re-entered the code or logged in/out. I even accessed my account via the app which said that it was on my account but wouldn't let me start my download.
Eventually, I discovered that, and I'm not making this up, I had to fumble about the store until I came across an advertisement for FH3, watch the full ad, then at the end it would present a link to buy the game and only THEN did it present for me the option to download the game.
Oh, and only the standard edition, not the Ultimate Edition that I paid good money for. Fuck you MS. They don't give a shit about gamers.
FH3 stopped working for me after the update - even with updated drivers.
Who wants to bet money that these games will continue to work on a potential "Windows 11" in a few years?
Won't be a Windows 11...not anytime soon, not even in a few years.
Is the Creator's update out?
I always feel guilty when these threads pop up. I downloaded gow4, Fh3, and just a few days ago got halo wars 2. All downloaded without issues and Fh3 even performed pretty well for me. Don't know what it is, but I can't say I have any beefs with win10 store.
I'm not arguing against PC. I'm simply pointing out the fact that alot of posters here state that the Xbox One isn't worth buying because of Play Anywhere titles being on PC, only to then bash the Windows 10 store and go as far as refuse to use it thereby missing out on Xbox One/Windows 10 exclusives. Seems like a lose/lose situation to me!do you expect some new ads from Microsoft coming out soon with :
"xbox one get one today! or you can try on PC but good luck with win10 store!!! hahahaha!!!"
???? is this really your argument against pc?
its not just big files either , even something like a rar extractor I had to choose 3, two hung up on "download pending" for eternity, the third one downloaded.
