{Rumor} "iPhone 8" - New drawing/rendering leak

Honestly the rumor that they're switching to a glass back makes me super happy because I took forever to decide on Jet Black vs Matte Black for my 7 Plus and if it's glass it'll likely only have one shade of glossy piano black and my decision will have been made for me

Don't buy mid-class phones, then. You're making an unfair comparison. Pixel works great.
lol

Comparing midclass Android with $1k iPhone. Classic.
The person you quoted just made a statement on their own experience. They didn't make any sort of comparison, that part is in your head.

I hate when these designs and rumors run wild...

Then the actual phone is a more realistic update.
This render isn't unrealistic. Don't compare wild and often false information early in the rumour cycle with more credible information from the supply chain as the Apple starts to narrow down their prototypes.

Here is a good run down on what Apple has been trying out, as well as what might get cut due to yield or production issues: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ne-overhaul-for-smartphone-s-10th-anniversary

That's a disingenuous way of reading that post. "I hate this cheap phone I bought. I'm going to buy an expensive other phone to solve this issue." It's a stretch to say he didn't implicate Android being the problem through that post.

What? The poster you quoted said they've had a bad experience with mid-range Android phones and they want to switch to an iPhone instead. If they don't want to consider higher end Android phones as an option as well, that's their choice. Who are we to mandate what phones they have to give consideration to? They said nothing about the quality of Android phones in comparison to iPhones.

Heh good point.

Unless they make a blue version which then I will 100% get ;)

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Deep blue glass would make me fucking cream by pants. With a black front?? 😍😍😍

The deep blue Honor 8 looks so nice, something that deep would be awesome.

I'd kind of expect them to mar it with a white front though :/

Touch ID on the back would be the dumbest design decision in a long time by Apple.

I'm 99% sure it won't happen unless they're facing manufacturing/supply catastrophe.

I really hope so. I can't see them putting it on the back just to have it back on the front the following year.

Touch ID on the back, no Aux and since we are talking apple most likely not water resistant. I think I'll keep my 6s for a very long time.

I think everyone knows that TouchID under the glass on the front side is where everyone is headed. Even Samsung ended up putting their sensor on the back because they couldn't make it happen in time for the S8 launch and will probably get there for the Note 8.

I just don't see Apple making a major design decision like that only to revert it later when they get what they want, they would rather wait.

TouchID on the back is a huge compromise and a little disappointing, but at least it should make screen replacements easier down the road.

It's also possible that the tech to get it under the screen just isn't there yet?

*I know nothing about this btw

Aren't they buying screens from Samsung for this device?

Glossy is so bad though :(

For one, you wouldn't be able to use Touch ID when your phone is resting on a table.

Cases will have an ugly hole in the back.

It is also easier to use Touch ID where it is when using Apple Pay etc.

Agreed.

I had the Pixel and the fingerprint sensor being on the back was a huge pain in the ass, it's why I have zero interest in the S8.

I'll be sticking with my 7 Plus for a while if the next iPhone has Touch I.D on the back.

I'm sure Apple's got worst-case-scenario contingency-plan designs for all kinds of supply chain problems but I hope they're sensible enough to delay the iPhone Pro or whatever it's called by a few months if that's what's necessary, rather than compromising its design so severely.

Edit: This could likely just be one design of many, but I feel putting the touch ID on the back would be a huge misstep.
Apple suppliers have so far struggled to reliably produce heavily curved glass in mass quantities, so the company is more likely to ship the version with more subdued curves, the person added. The company is also testing a simpler design that has an aluminum back, rather than a glass one, and slightly larger dimensions, one of the people said.
Not feeling that.

We know TouchID under the screen will happen eventually, but it would be a damn shame if they have to push it to the back in the interim. I would rather wait a couple of extra months for them to get a supply going instead of getting the compromised handset and waiting another year for the design they intended.

Eww, TouchID on the back would be a huge turn-off. Almost deal-breaking. But I also think they'd rather hold off until yields are there and not compromise their biggest redesign in recent years.

Also, what's this? Flash?

So what do they do instead of a home button then? Will it be like on Nexus/Pixel phones where there is a contextual, virtual home button? Doesn't look like it in that image in the OP though.

The first picture is already on the home screen (so it does not need to show a home button), and the last picture shows a TouchID home button. But these are mockups, and the final design will likely be different. Current iPhones can access the home screen through 3D Touch. The home button has only two exclusive functions: activating reachability, and enabling accessibility shortcuts.

If they're going to place the fingerprint reader on the back why not place the sensor under the Apple logo? Instead of putting it under it's own cut out spot?

Yeah it doesn't really make much sense. If this is real, then I hope it is something to do with the rumoured wireless charging instead.

Exactly, It would be weird if that was the final design as the fingerprint reader placement would almost be as bad as the S8's, hopefully it's just an older design they were playing with at some stage.

Edit: also looks like they haven't backtracked on their "kill the headphone jack" stance.

Fuck, another source claiming this. Generally, this much smoke (plus schematics) points to something.

If this is the direction they go, I'm not upgrading this year. And if it's still like this next year, hello again Android because Apple has lost its fucking mind.

Within two years, you'll find the headphone jack an exceedingly rare creature.

I thought Apple were all about minimalism and removing holes. An extra hole on the back looks inelegant. The 8 also has a camera that sticks out too, right?

Seriously, lol. The middle of the phone on the back is about the least ergonomic place you can put the damn thing. I just tried it, and I need to slightly contort my index finger to reach there to place it flat, no matter how I hold the phone.

I'm gonna go as far as to say that I believe it's impossible that this hole would actually be for the touch ID sensor. It's so unergonomic, that it makes no sense at all. It's more likely that it's something used for wireless charging.

If they haven't got the fingerprint reader under the screen that most likely goes for the other sensors as well, and therefore it's going to be a compromised design all-round. The screen isn't going to look like the OP.

If the tech/production isn't there yet they should just hold off, no one will die from not getting this in the anniversary year. Especially as a high-end model.

Better yet, why not make the Apple logo the fingerprint reader.

Edit: Derp, I see you're saying the same xD

Much like Samsung they might have have severe yield issues with screens with a built in finger print reader. Apparently the tech to do it is there but manufacturing hasn't caught up.

Because Apple no longer has any "vision".

If they throw out a full-screen phone (well as much as they can) with the fingerprint reader chucked on the back it's basically they don't give a shit.

Would put me off completely, both from design and usability.

Personally I like the touch plate on the back of my phone, but I never had a modern iphone with the front home button being one to get used to that first.

I started my touch ID life from behind. kappa.

I've decided to go for an iPhone with my new contract in June.

So I'm new to the Apple game as I'm fed up with mid-class Androids that run like shit after a couple of months.

Are these rumors/renders that pop up every year close to the final phone? Can we expect a huge leap over the 7 because it's the 10th anniversary? I'm wondering if I can wait until September (?) for the new iPhone...

What exactly makes your phones run like shit after a few months? because it's not wear and tear doing that.

I've owned my nexus 6p for about 11 months now and it's just as good if not perfect like it was a year ago and i've upgraded to android 7 since buying it.
