I dunno. I can't do anything but pull stuff outta my ass, but theres gotta be some superhero-teamup macroeconomics at work when it comes to the League on the big screen for the first time. Under 150 would surprise me.

If so, imma call it the Cyborg effect.

More interesting question is whether JL opens over 150.

Batman v Superman's opening weekend was 166mil

Will a) November and b) the fucking shitacular word of mouth on the first film damage it by 15-16 mil?

It'll be interesting!
That dive BvS took in its first weekend was a hell of a thing to see, lol. Shy of Wonder Woman being TDK-tier, I'm not really sure if people will give enough of a shit to push it over $150m.

Kinda doubt BvS has any negative impact on JL.

It is launching in November and Thor comes out that month as well. So we'll see.

I would like you guys continue talk about hollywood abs, and wether what is achievable with a very strict diet and what you need steroids for. I guess most of them have to use steroids.

Thor 3 is another interesting factor. I don't think we've ever had two major comic book films release only two weeks apart; last year with the three week gap between Civil War and X-men Apocalypse is the closest thing that comes to mind.

The Rock is all natty, baby.

In a roundabout way we're talking about JL's hollywood abs, and my sincere doubt Cyborg is the steroids. Its Bats, naturally.

They also dehydrate before shirtless scenes. Hugh Jackman talks about his shirtless Wolverine process in an interview. I forget with whom.

First Class and Green Lantern were 2 weeks apart.

I remember reading something about an actor being so dehydrated while shooting a shirtless scene that he passed out. Cant remember who it was or what movie.

I feel like $150m is a lock, but I wonder if it'll match the BvS Week 1 > Week 2 drop.

It's safe to assume a large portion of men involved in comic book films and major action films at least go on an HGH cycle when filming. HGH is the go to on a lot of things now days over traditional anabolic steroids

Oh god, of course it'd be Green Lantern. It's like poetry.

I feel like $150m is a lock, but I wonder if it'll match the BvS Week 1 > Week 2 drop.

The nature of the Thanksgiving frame makes that essentially impossible, because Black Friday is a massive day for the box office. For example, the first Hunger Games had a 62% second weekend drop, while the second had a 53% drop.

It's very likely the third weekend drop will be 65%+, though.

Second weekend is Thanksgiving weekend, so even if the weekend is way down, it will do huge weekday business on Tues-Thurs to make up for it. If you are talking about full weeks, then ya, the drop will be massive.

Yeah, talking full week, not weekend.

Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in real life,

But in the movie only half his face is visible. Warners is leaving money on the table by not giving Cyborg human abs.

I wonder if the fight tonight (Canelo v Chavez) will have a noticeable effect on GotG2's numbers. Idk how the hype is everywhere else, but it's a prettt big deal among the Mexican/Hispanic people. It's pretty much the talk of the town here.

Saw the film earlier today, and enjoyed it. I felt the first one was better though. Baby Groot is so adorable.

I still think they should go with his last design.

Even his current one is better.

Ahh. It will probably have a somewhat better drop, then. Justice League will have inflated weekdays from Thanksgiving, but BvS did as well and also had Good Friday. I think a good guess would be the 66% weekly decline Deathly Hallows Pt 1 had

Then again, I'm not sure I would bet against Zack Snyder setting a new standard for frontloadedness.

This is why I love you and Kwis. NUMBERS.

Justice League is going to drop like a rock, bar it actually having great WoM, but I'm not going to bet against DC films opening big until they disappoint in that regard. Especially when Batman is involved.

Wouldn't be surprised if JL opens higher than BvS and then has even bigger drops.

Really not sure on this.
Will depend on Wonder Woman a lot, too.

Then again, Suicide Squad...

Also, despite marketing showing both superheroes, the NAME Justice League might not have the same impact of 'Batman vs Superman' to the average moviegoer.

I think Thor coming out so close is probably gonna keep Justice League from reaching $160. I'm not even sure what the appeal is since we've already seen Clark, Bruce, & Diana together onscreen.

I guess there's an untapped audience that's begging to see Aquaman & Cyborg meet up for the first time ever.

Hellboy 2 and The Dark Knight were only a week apart. Poor Hellboy 2 got crushed.

So, the possible correlation we can draw from this is it would be better for Justice League to square off against an adaptation of BPRD than being currently up against Thor: Ragnarok.

Abs boost only works with men the women thirst over. I've never seen women thirst over Ray Fisher.

I'll agree that BvS ruined their money shot with the Trinity but I do think The Flash TV series have helped his status just a bit so could add to that.

But yeah the "event" feel isn't really there like with the first Avengers

I'm no expert, far from it, but I think you guys may be over estimating the impact that a damn Thor sequel is gonna have, Hulk or no Hulk.

If Guardians 2 is "underperforming" slightly, what hope does the sequel to The Dark World, aka the second worst MCU flick, have?

The trailer for Thor 3 seems to have extremely positive reception.

I think the difference is Thor Ragnarock has a hook. Or hooks with mjolnir breaking and Hela as a cool looking villain. GOTG2 doesn't really have one.

Kinda doubt BvS has any negative impact on JL.

It automatically places a TON of pressure on JL to overcorrect the issues in BvS. People viewing it will go into it with the baggage of BvS, for better or worse. Case in point, there are some people that were a bit disappointed with GOTG2 but because the original had such good word of mouth, people are as harsh.

Also, for the record, I think JL will be a mess of a film. There is a reason why you don't try and bring together a bunch of new characters and introduce them in one film's time. They tried that with BvS and it was junk. Now they are trying it again AND introducing a new villian and mythos!?

People underestimate the feat that Whedon pulled off with Avengers (and that movie had standalone movies to set most of the major characters up).

My hopes for a cohesive JL are low.

Thor 3 will hurt Justice League's legs no matter what.

And Justice League will probably have shit legs anyways on the count of the movie being... shit.

Prove me wrong Snyder.

JL will be better than either avengers movie. But come short of any of them financially of course. I think it will make more than the mcu movies this year though. Even guardians 2.

I think people's opinions on these movies are painting their expectations of the box office. It will be pretty big.

I know people are saying everyone was saying $150M for Guardians was a lock, but it wasn't everyone. ;)

Nice. I was predicting $140 personally.

I was pretty close on my Civil War WW Total prediction too, thinking it would end up somewhere closer to Iron Man 3 than Age of Ultron, though I did think it would be a little more than IM3, not less.
