Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

I think maybe the voice control function of the remote is being referred to?

However all you need to do is enable hdmi control in the ps4 settings then the ps4 will make the TV power on and switch to the right source. You will also be able to control the ps4 menus using the TV remote including play /pause etc in Netflix and other apps

Why didn't I know this? Thank you!

I dug further into the RTINGS.com settings and tried out the Adv. Color Temperature settings. I was pretty pleased with the settings, and really like them so far. All my connections are set to them now. PS4, XBONE, PC, and Cable. Give them a try and see what you think. I have the 49 inch X800D.

you really shouldnt use those settings because they are panel specific, and thus the results will vary quite a bit.

guaranteed you arent getting the same picture that the rtings team are by using them.

yeah it might look ok to your eye, but to a spectrometer they will be way off.

This is true, the posted grey scale settings will almost surely make your picture worse. Settings like this can only be determined by using a meter, and each TV is different.

All the other settings are great.

The menus feel a bit snappier than before with the update. They changed the look of the picture settings menu and it seems to have given them better performance. You can also select between HDR modes now since HLG HDR has been added

Picture-in-picture is disappointing. You can't, for example, have the YouTube app on top of an input like a PS4. You can only have it the other way around, with the YouTube app being fullscreen and the PS4 being in a tiny box in the top right of the screen. It's the complete opposite of what I wanted.

That's crazy.

What's HLG HDR and which one's better?

same question. looks like it forces hdr even on content that dont support it?

You could always force HDR on anything you've wanted! Won't look good at all though!

This HLG update enables YouTube HDR videos to be viewed properly on X800D?

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCve7_yAZHFNipzeAGBI5t9g/videos

This was the channel I tried and the TV would not auto switch to HDR which means that the app probably needs top be updated first. Forcing it to use HLG definitely looked better than forcing HDR10, but I'm not sure if it is correct. Certainly doesn't look as good as any other HDR videos I've watched.

what about hdr10? im seeing a big difference when it selected

You could always force HDR10, it was just an on or off (or auto) option. It certainly looks different, but it isn't at all what you want to do since it isn't officially supported. It looks very bad.

As of right now. It will eventually get pushed out to your TV and will download it itself.
Updating now, you said it felt snappier on the menus? I wonder what else is there under the hood that wasn't mentioned..... Realistically, how long can we expect updates for this TV? One, maybe two more years?

Picked up the X900E yesterday and had a few questions:

Is the Roku Ultra the best HDR/4K streamer out there or are the in-TV apps sufficient?
Is there a consensus on the best UHD player or should I wait on those?
Are there any (professionally calibrated?) settings besides the rtings ones? They feel just a touch muted.

I'm figuring that the update might have cleared some sort of cache in the TV. I had lots of issues switching inputs or doing anything remote related before the update which are now fixed. I'm figuring we'll get at least the rest of the year for updates.

The TV apps are fine, they get the job done. If you already have the Roku, go ahead and use it! It's just not really worth it to go out and buy a separate device.
The XBOX One S works great if you already have one. I'm not sure about dedicated players. You could try getting a cheap, used, XBOX One S. It wouldn't be much more expensive and you could of course play games as well.
I wouldn't use the adv. temp settings provided by RTINGS, if that is what you mean. Those settings vary from display to display so you are probably better off resetting them to factory defaults

I'd say the apps are perfectly fine. As for UHD players, personally I'd wait until the content is there. If I were to buy one now, I'd just get an Xbox One S - it's by far the cheapest UHD bluray player and you get an OK game system as a bonus.

YT app doesn't have the HDR update yet, but depending on your needs, you can just get the Premiere+ rather than the Ultra.

I actually don't know about other streaming apps aside from the built in Netflix. I haven't checked if Amazon, Hulu, etc have HDR as I don't have subs to them.

Interesting, now when you go to home to look at apps and stuff it doesn't turn off the input you're on and is still visible behind the home screen. Nice little touch.

What's the color space do? I see on the PS4 Pro auto is the same as sRGB/BT.709. What is BT.2020? It looks more colorful but is that only HDR color or what?

It has always shown the input in the background of the home screen :P It just doesn't stay around for long

BT.2020 is for HDR. It enables 10 or 12-bit color

Did anybody try to install it on a EU model yet? I have a 55XD8005.

I have the same EU model and i would like to know as well if that is even possible.
I wonder how different firmwares are between regions since essentially tv should be same minus the model name and size.

The EU models have SCART and the other models have Component so they're not 100% the same.

Color space is a specific mapping (think x,y,z coordinates) that specify what colors should be displayed on your TV. BT2020 is only used for HDR. All standard definition signals are mapped in 709, and therefore this color space should be used for non-HDR content.
If you mismatch your color space it just incorrectly maps the colors onto your screen.

About to install the update on the 43 inch version. Hopefully this will fix the HDR for ps4 games. If not, going to move to a monitor b/c then there's not point.

I just got the 49" version today and the colors looks a little off. Like the white is not very white and also when the screen is white I see a black spot in the lower middle section. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for this TV?

Having a weird issue, not sure if anyone's encountered this or heard of it but I was playing Uncharted 4 on PS4 then switched over to Netflix and the colors were super saturated—Twin Peaks looked straight up orange. Double checked my picture settings and video output settings and nothing had changed. Swapped over to the Netflix app on the TV and things were fine but then it randomly changed the settings and it was bright as hell, but I changed back. I have no idea what's going on—is this common? And no, light sensor isn't on.
