Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |OT| Deluxe Salt

3-starred everything up to mirror, can't be bothered by 200cc.

Already spent some hours trying to get good against the best time trial ghosts, but the shortcuts they take seem impossible. How they do the 2nd turn in Mario Kart Stadium is like witchcraft to me.

Any way to increase the chances, or if it's even possible, of playing 200cc against randoms online?

Gameplay feels mad slow. Guess it's my fault for 3-starring 200cc cups first, then working on Mirror. I wish completing 200cc would unlock everything below, just like how completing 150cc unlocks every cup in 100cc and 50cc.

LMAO this Gold Mario tried to play the disrespect card without paying attention to his surroundings.

I 3 starred 50/100 and kind of re-lost interest in this. Might've been my lack of interest in online play? Maybe I just need more friends to play this with. I really enjoy the new battle modes but I find playing online feels kind of empty. Might be just me. I enjoy it but the game runs out of itself quickly if you aren't intending or good enough to 3 star 150/mirror/200

Did the Gold Mario stop at the finish line as a sort of taunt, and then you blasted by with a mushroom?

Yeah, you can see him waiting there in the first shot. He was probably focused on the Toadette in second and didn't notice me using mushrooms to cut across the grass until it was too late.

It's sad :( I love this game. But with my online not working I don't know.

I'm at the point of calling Nintendo to see if my switch needs fixing because i'm out of ideas.

How far do you get into multi? Do you get past the initial "Connecting" right after picking Online? Can you get into a lobby?

Are you using Y to accelerate?

No, I was using the default A which is awful. I didn't know you could re-bind keys, I'll look into that. In the meantime I turned on auto-acceleration which sorta alleviated the hand cramps.

EDIT: Derp, no rebind necessary, that's just the default lol

Auto-accelerate is the way to go! You can still brake with B, so there's really no loss in control. Auto-accelerate allows you to focus on the stick and triggers. That's all you need. :-)

You don't need to rebind anything, just press Y, that's a secondary button for acceleration :D

Has MK8DGAF moved on already? I jumped into 150cc and 200cc early Friday evening as well as this afternoon and no one was playing... except for a single person in 150cc, one time. :(

Anyone planning on playing tomorrow?

The size of battle maps should scale to the number of players. 4, 8, 12.

Those things are wastelands if you're just playing 4 people locally.

On occasion, sometimes its immediate. Before lobbies/waiting other times i can join a race for a lap or two then dc. :( have tried other wifi connections too.

Ah okay, thought maybe your router was blocking connections entirely. Have you tried sitting right next to the router to test?

If you play mainly docked mode and can connect an Ethernet cable, you could try a cheapo (not the official Hori, expensive!) USB Ethernet adapter.

Ribbon Road looks nothing like the GBA version. There's so many new stuff they added that it's more than just a 1-to-1 remake. It's also one of the best tracks in MK8.

Yeah, all the GBA tracks in the game look nothing like their original 2D counterpart which is funny because SNES Donut Plains 3 and Rainbow Road still retain their look from their originals.

I suppose it's because the change from 2D to 3D was more aggresive to the GBA tracks with all the ups and downs as opposed to the more flat design of the SNES ones.

Love what they did with the GBA and SNES tracks in this one, they're some of my favorites in the game. Perhaps not crazy about Rainbow Road SNES, I preferred the MK7 version but I suppose it had to be widened for 12 players and the track undulations from the Thwomps are a nice addition.

The guys have been playing battle mode as well sometimes, so that might have been why you missed us. It's best to check in Discord or here when you're about to play.

Not sure about tomorrow.

My 4 year old son, now a Dry Bones fan. Bless him.

Awwww :')

I do find it pretty crazy how thin the space each side of the thwomps is on SNES Rainbow Road, same with the space around the Bowser Golem's fists in Bowser's Castle.

didnt think this would be so good (already got the wii U version), but auto accelerate is amazing, load times are halved, portable mode is beautiful to just pick up, double item boxes are great, new characters are fun, online works fine on 5ghz wifi (1 bar on normal wifi). Seems like I was wrong about it.

I had this problem, I resolved it by turning the switch completely off using the power button on the top of the machine(you hold it down for several seconds). Until then I was only using sleep mode which wouldn't fix he problem. No doubt you've tried this though :(

We still play, although it's not active all day anymore. We played 200cc Frantic and Battle earlier today.

Most of us chat in the Discord text chat now, and as a result I forget to check this thread sometimes. But I'll try to remember to say something in this thread next time we play.

I think it was the overall theme of the track that made it look completely different. In MK8 they turned it into a children's toy box with a castle and wind-up toys while in the GBA version it was just a straightforward red road with giant presents in the background.

Go online -> you are now spectating -> Lap 1/3 -> Select Race -> start race -> disconnect immediately ->rejoin -> you are now spectating -> lap 1/3

Got a switch today! Man I'm scared I'm putting it in the dock wrong and I'm going to scratch my screen. I guess I need to buy screen protectors.

They still kept elements from the original courses, such as MK8's Ribbon Road having presents scattered across the bedroom & MK8's Cheese Land expanding on the cheese-themed desert.

I actually liked that the GBA tracks weren't simply 1:1 remakes, with the exception of Mario Circuit.

I didnt take mine out of the box until my ebay orzly tempered glass protectors arrived. Now theyre on I love it.

Youre gonna burn yourself even more for bothering with 50 and 100.

150 is extremely easy but you unlock nothing for it in Deluxe.

You gotta essentially play every track in the game 3 times to get gold mario, gold wheels and gold kart. Mirror mode, 200CC and time trial ghosts. Dont know who thought this was a good idea.

I'm pretty good at this game, so I've found a hilarious self-handicap play style for when friends are over and I don't wanna destroy them.

Activate motion steering and auto-accelerate

hold your two Joy-Con like you're playing ARMS

hold them about as far apart as you'd hold two sides of a steering wheel

right thumb for drift, left thumb for items

it's great :p and it's hysterical to watch. I'm gonna see if I can have a friend 3D print me the parts for a grip as long as a steering wheel's diameter that faces the Joy-Con sideways like that.

edit: I'm going senile, shit doesn't work if you hold them sideways. You have to hold them normally with your thumbs over the top two shoulder buttons, lol. My bad.

I am trying this as soon as I get home.

Portability really adds to Kart. I've owned every Nintendo console, but this series never grabbed me until now.

I feel like selling this as a home console first is a blunder, this is such an incredible handheld. I didn't even dock it for 2 weeks on a whim. And that's not to say it isn't a fine home console, but it's strength is that it's the most well engineered portable device I've used since the early iPhones.
