.hack//G.U. Last Recode (HD remaster, PS4 and PC) coming out

What's the difference between the .hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, etc. quadrilogy and this?

I've only completed .hack//Infection.

The G.U. games were a sequel that came out some time later. It had its own anime setting up the story (which was pretty good from what I remember, I liked it more then .hack//sign) with a new character Haseo who ends up getting Data Drained by a weird looking version of Kite and gets reduced back to level 1 (was like level 150 or something lol) and struggles to figure out how one of his friends ended up in a coma from what I remember.

The Gameplay in G.U. was much better then the original games from what I remember and was a really solid Trilogy overall but I haven't played them since they came out so this announcement has me pretty excited!

How is the .hack series? I am interested because there were some characters from the series in Project X Zone which I played. Also how is the anime?
The quality varies for both the games and the anime series. The first set of 4 games is the original "main" story of the series, but the gameplay, while honestly isn't very good. The story is unique and pretty great though, and playing around in the pseudo MMO setting, trading with other players and reading the news and message boards is nice.
While you aren't left with many questions after it wraps up, the anime, manga, and novels fill in and expand the lore. Each one is both their own stand-alone story and part of the puzzle.

.hack//sign is the prequel to the games and the anime that most people are familiar with. It leads up to them, but follows different characters and centers around a different problem. It's... talky. Lots of panning shots and exposition, but the story is interesting. There's also an unrelated series of anime episodes that came with each game and covered what happens in the real world during each respective game. After that is a terrible non-canon anime adaptation of the games' lighthearted sequel manga.

There are several other anime of varying quality including a direct prequel to the GU games that IMO was pretty mediocre and spoils a huge plot twist at the end. Its events are more or less covered via dialogue in the main GU trilogy so I wouldn't recommend it. The others take place a good deal after the GU series and are self-contained. .hack//quantum is fun but is 3 episodes that are more or less their own thing.

I've never played anything .hack, and this is... Probably a bad place to start? Always been interested in checking the series out.
You can start with (mostly) any part of the series. You won't get the full experience but it's not like jumping in mid-story (unless you're jumping in to say, GU volume 2 without playing the first)

they flying get apparently does mention new game. Says reboot?
The poster says he will write it later.
Ugh, another reboot? :/
The series did reach far enough in the future that that generation of The World would be hard to adapt, so I can understand it. But... the last OVA left off on sort of a cliffhanger and now it will never be resolved.

Remember playing a bit of the very first game, so I'd prefer the remaster of that, but if these are any good I'd consider checking them out. Are they any good?

Some flying get info

-full HD/60fps. Higher quality cutscenes and UI
-it has retry option
-movement speed, inventory volume, exp, battle tempo are all higher/faster than the original
-skip/ shortcut options available
-rebalanced so it's different from the original
-because of all these changes, game tempo is faster so each volume plays about 1~2 hours faster than the original.

-This is the title that reboots the series
-G.U. doesn't end in 3 volumes, but there is a real salvation? You will know the answer in this game
-Next project is in works, but it will take time. It will depend on Bandai Namco
-next time we reveal info, you will be surprised

Here's a timeline for the anime/games/novels/manga/etc., taken from reddit (there doesn't seem to be a translated version; it's also not the most recent one):

I was and still am a big fan of the franchise. I read all the books, played the games (not the PSP one), and watched the shows (Quantum was ace). I also listened to the music for hours.

Can't wait to go back into The World.

^Wait, so G.U. took place in 2017? I mean, we are getting VR but reality didn't quite keep up, huh?

They're rebooting the series with... A remaster of G.U? That they're adding content to?

Yeah it seems like a good idea to me. G.U. was the most well received of any of the games (at least in the west) but they came towards the end of the PS2's life so I don't think they ended up selling that well and I think it might make for a good jumping on point for a lot of newcomers this will attract.

IT'S HAPPENING! PS4 PURCHASE JUSTIFIED. Lindsey, Post if you're OK!

This is fantastic news. Could the quadrilogy get a full remake? Could this build interest for a new game? I'm on cloud nine!

ps4 & pc btw
honestly bleh. og quadrilogy would be better for me, or they continue with stuff after versus/thanatos report

Yeah hopefully this means the original quadrilogy comes out, One of my long standing hopes was that Infection/Mutation/Outbreak/Quarantine would have either got the PS2 re-release on PS3 which never happened, so here is hoping that a PS4 remastered collection happens.

Well this was completely unexpected. But nice, never had the chance to really try these games. But come on Bandai Namco if you can release this, please give us Xenosaga HD too!

Day 1 (for the possible western release).
Missed grabbing the PS2 releases back in the day, so I'll be there this time.

They say the game is 80% complete. So I can see it releasing this year in Japan. This is for the 15th anniversary so it would make sense to release it in this year.

So DQXI , NNK II, Sen III and .Hack for PS4 in Japan this year. Pretty good year for JRPGs.

YES. Finally.
I would love a remake or a new entry, but HD remaster is already super good.

More news on their next issue, June 29. Can't wait :D

Wow i can't believe this is actually happening. I'm not the biggest .hack fan but my brother is crazy about it. Think this will actually sway him to get his own PS4 lol.

Oh wow, I never finished the games on PS2.

Excited to try them out again, considering the HD treatment and various gameplay updates.
