The first quadrology is a god awful mess. It'd need a lot more love and attention including a complete rebalancing to remove all the grind and preferably having the combat completely reworked so it's less mashing a single button.
As a hardcore fan of most of the original anime (even //legend) i had a super hard time getting through the third, let alone fourth discs.
I completely disagree ... I eagerly devoured them as they were released and had a great time. In any case, if you read all the changes to this, it's like the directors said - they're pretty much remaking everything anyway.
