Oh damn, that's a bit harsh my friend. I wouldn't wish that on any studio. Plus didn't Remedy at one point say they wanted to remain independent? Agreed about the deadlines though.
As for QB, not a goddamn single word about a patch for the X eh? So sad.

Microsoft aren't in the habit of making game studio acquisitions so this is a really daft hope you have there.
Every attempt at a Smash clone has been middling or a disaster.
Meh the game technique and resolution was never made for higher res. See the PC version.
That was probably a very late call from MS but the game was never planned for it. So i doubt its a very good idea for X.

How so? People have different tastes, and I am sure there will be aspects of the game that some will dislike. Technical problems aside it's Impossible to make a perfect game.
They are changing alot atm. Business wise and different dev teams. One game every some what years and being SP only really. Wasnt longer very viable.
True, but most fanbases aren't the Halo fanbase.

KI is great, but a game like Smash would be to celebrate Xbox properties through its presentation and content offering.
Unfortunately yeah, but no clone has replicated Smash's exact formula while having a high quality presentation.
The halo fabase is so sad, but at least some are trying to be more constructive... I am eager to find more about what happens next though, with all that's going on in the universe.

The 2015 Gamescom conference worked because they held back multiple first party games from E3 so that they had something to show and there wasn't a ton of cross-over. This situation is different. Currently they don't have enough games to hold an additional conference of that scale unless they're sitting on 2-3 new games that are ready to be announced (maybe I should say games they WANT to announced).
With that said, it could still serve as a good opportunity to provide updates such as premiering Crackdown multiplayer even without a conference. May do something like the Nintendo Treehouse and hold an all day stream where they show gameplay and make small announcements.

I don't think people expect those flagship games to go anywhere, but shakeups to those games would be appreciated
I see a lot of people throw around the idea of a 3rd person Halo RPG, for example

Wait, Gamescom 2015 had a lot of crossover with the preceding E3. The only new announcement was Halo Wars 2. They just used it to expand upon what they showed before the show. I think that can still be a good thing for them to do. A way to keep Xbox news out there instead of going completely silent until E3 next year.
I just want something else that can go along side the core game. So, keep the mainline series the same, but do a Lego Halo type game, an Uncharted Lost Legacy style counterpart, etc...
The difference is is this upcoming year they'll have actual spring games so that backlash won't be as strong. Your going to have the big holiday games which leads into Ori, state of decay and Sea of thievesI think it does hurt them, not in the short term but certainly in the medium to long term.
Whilst Sony will be revealing new games at Gamescom/Paris, TGS and then PSX at the end of the year Xbox will just be sitting ildly in the wings twiddling their thumbs. This then turns into angst on social media and forums which journos then pick up on and start to produce articles with a negative outlook on the Xbox brand.
They have a new console coming in a few months, they really should be front and centre for gamers as much as possible. Even if they arent revealing new games they have to stay in gamers minds and by having a presser at Gamescom would help do that.
I still dont think they'll have one though

The only new reveal they heldmback was Scalebound. Crackdown wasn't even gameplay really. Justbthem talking. And we had seen Quantum break the previous year. They just changed the actor and had a trailer release date at gamescom.
Well yeah there was some cross-over but Quantum Break, Crackdown and Scalebound weren't shown at E3 so they could be shown at Gamescom. The main show pieces of Gamescom differed from the main show pieces at E3. That's what I was referring to.
A Gamescom conference this year would probably consist almost entirely of games we saw just two months prior at E3. Doesn't feel worth it to me.

Okay, I gotcha. I think Gamescom as a focus for certain titles at E3 would be cool. Especially since they'll have a few games for early Spring next year. Crackdown 3's MP, for example, would be good for Gamescom.
They nailed the multiplayer in 5. Just need to get the single player right.
I think they'll go for a nice Halo 5/MCC update with maybe a Halo 6 teaser later in the year at Halofest. That would give them a lot of positivity going into Halo 6, showing they care about Halo past and present, fixing their mistakes. Rebuild the bridges and gain some trust.

It will still be as strong, most definitely. The fact they have those early 2018 games coming would mean to me that they have to be at Gamescom but I can't really forecast what Phil is going to do next. They can't go radio silent between now and next E3 though, they just can't.
Phil has said there will be more occasions to show games running on the X1 but would that be an event or just some posts on Xbox wire?

i feel like microsoft is investing a lot less in their games even the ones that are coming out is on the lower tier spectrum for triple a development. both crackdown and state of decay are both relatively cheaper ( for aaa) development in comparison to your typical high budget games.
you don't need to wait to gamescom to show gameplay for crackdowns multiplayer, this is an outdated concept. announce new games or don't show up. stop milking conferences.

I don't think you can accuse Crackdown 3 of having a small budget, far from it in fact. They must have sunk a fortune into it already.

I'd imagine the most has been spent on cloud tech .
state of decay 2 looks more like DLC then a much bigger budget game.
I honestly think it was canned long ago after Xbox One went off the rails and they brought it back not long ago. Was cloud Crackdown ever playable, looked more like test footage that was never a game in much capacity, just an Azure demo, what we see now looks nothing like that and not talking about the physics. Microsoft test project that happened to be using game IP.
Crackdown 3 looks like a quick port of old Crackdown then they built on that and it looks quite nice. A good or bad thing, well looks like it plays the same, the jumping, climbing, running without much change because that's what seems to work for the game play and control which is fair enough but I think it's more a result of just getting the game out in short time and basing it on old Crackdown
3-4 studios working for 4 years is a lot of money, the cost is not the cloud tech. The cost in video game development is the number of people and the time it takes, to call Crackdown low budget would mean gears is lower budget than crackdown.
You clearly haven't played State of Decay if you think that is anything close to a dlc, how someone can possibly make that statement even if they are being deliberately overdramatic is beyond me. A new engine, three times the team size etc.
The crackdown cloud demo was in fact playable, a pre alpha tech demo is not going to represent final art at all. Not to mention that demo was not made by the team that is making the single player.

We have no idea when Ori is coming out, but yeah with State of Decay and Sea of Thieves coming first half 2018, there's plenty of time you can spend on marketing those games (I don't think we'll see another big Sea of Thieves blowout after it's lengthy E3 demo though)
Yeah Crackdown 3 MP is almost surely on the docket to have there. The State of Decay trailer was gameplay, but yeah I think a full blown demo for it would be great.

yes it doesn't go above and beyond what they already established in 2012. 5.. soon to be 6 years later the new addition to state of decay will just be multiplayer and engine . pretty disappointing

obviously game development is expensive in general, the 3 teams that are on it is definitely probably less than 150-200 developers total . sumo worked on this forza, snake pass and dead island 2 all at the same time . once again i love what i see but i want this game to get a similar budget as quantum break did

How long has State of Decay 2 been in development?
I assume since the release of the first game and if that's true... 4+ years. Then again, UndeadLabs is pretty small, isn't it?

Yeah, I think they are a pretty small team. So, even though it is 4+ years, they don't have a lot of manpower to see big gains from it.
Not to say it makes those impressions fine but it is understandable, at least.
Edit - Though, this is an established IP. That should have helped them do more. Or maybe they did what they could with their budget? Who knows.

according to their linkedin which i assume isn't accurate they have 71 employees. definitely in the very small spectrum.
They first need a silly kart or arcade racer that can also play on the couch or couch vs online

There is alot of new stuff. But not huge changes like adding coop.
I mean running out of gas, noise of the community itself atracts zombies, characters now have more personality, 3 large maps instead on 1, new dodge ability.

State of Decay 2 uses UE4 iirc instead of CryEngine, one thing I felt about the original was that it had a ton of features in it which I felt was impressive, very ambitious for a new ip but that they just couldn't get around the jank.
The new one has 3 maps, looks much better and has 4 player co-op, if it's just a multiplayer version of the original then sign me up

Sod2 sounds great from what I've read about it. It's exactly what I want. A much better and improved version of the first, I don't want them to change stuff up when they nailed the first game.

Probably not a good idea to start a thread with an Aaron Greenberg quote on Neogaf, especially when a thread recently which was talking about the same thing from Spencer was a absolute trash heap. But like you said interesting nonetheless, especially coming from marketing who probably would love to just splurge every last game they have for the next 4-5 years like Playstation as it would be great press.
The smash bros formula has never been emulated properly, because it is unique to Nintendo characters. They should go with the way Power Stone was made, 3D arena brawler. Was the most fun fighter I have ever played, imagine one with all the Rare characters..

Looking at the single player expansions Sony have for this year, an expansion for Gears 4 possibly featuring (Gears 4 ending spoiler)
and optimised as a Scorpio showpiece would have gone down really well. Then again Gears 4 plummeted in price very quickly so maybe the audience isn't there and those who do buy Gears are focused on the multi-player.
