Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy |OT| N.Teresting and N.Tertaining N.Fographics With-N

5 year old me didnt have too much trouble with it. Had more trouble with strategy games as a kid because I didn't think things out.

Maybe it's just the child persistence that let us finish the game. Not me, I would have gotten to board (and switch to playing wrath of cortex
Don't judge me
)

Nah man, this is still from that holdover era of platformers where everything was still rock hard, like Rayman 1.

Was there ever a reason as to why these were games were hard. It feels like this was past the point of artificial difficulty to extent game time.

I lost a few times in Road to Nowhere but High Road is a true test of skill. I keep on timing my jumps incorrectly and I suck at using the ropes. I had to turn off the game to contain my frustration. I'm having a blast. I won't move on to the nest Crash until I at least finish the main game.
Saving gem paths and relics for Coco.

Yeah that's totally me lol.

So about load times. I want to compare with people with a standard hard drive. I'm using the Pro with the Samsung SSD.

When loading the game selection screen it takes an average of 12 seconds to load. When loading the second level of the first game, it takes about 14.5 seconds to load.

Many devs were still in the mindset that many games had from the past? I'm guessing it's much like how many games from that era and previous were always typically hard as a holdover from the design of arcade games designed to eat your money and/or hide how little content there was =/

The first game is not really as good as I remember it, some cheap deaths caused by some weird camera angles that makes it hard to see where to land :/

The bonus stage in Road to Nowhere...

Why....
You can't see the platform properly, so I kept missing it and falling...

I think Naughty Dog even admited themselves that Crash 1 was very hard, because they didn't do much focus testing until they heard Shuhei Yoshida was doing it in Japan. They just figured that because they themselves could beat it, everybody could. Apparently they toned it down a bit still.

Holy shit, managed to get the Platinum relic on
Area 51?
on Crash 3. Second best time on the leaderboard too. You people all complaining about Hog Ride and Road Crash, you've seen nothing yet.

Got My first Game Over in Crash 1 on The High Road, damn I seriously can't believe how I was able to get 100% in this game when I was kid, we were fucking Tigers.

I'm genuinely impressed you only just got a game over there!

And as a kid I never beat Crash 1 (not legit without the level select anyway) =/

Trying to get the platinum relic in native fortress
Aoz4m.gif

this, except sunset vista D:

I managed to get the Platinum Relic in Whole Hog on my first attempt, which was nice. Then I remembered it's totally on rails and has nothing to do with my skill as a player of Crash Bandicoot ;-;

And yeah I'd kinda forgotten how brutal the last section of platforming in Native Fortress can be, I kept dying to the triple flame platform because of how freely they've made the chars control in the air between jumps. I'd get up to that platform in the middle flame, then I'd press left too soon after dropping off and it was the pit for me! Dunno how many times I screwed that up.

Though tbh Native Fortress was the biggest roadblock so far for me. I was dreading Sunset Vista but it was OKish aside from ending up with one less box than I should have had and realising it was because I died trying to get to the Cortex platform, so had to do it all again.

Idk being able to play all the bonus stages at will makes Crash 1 pretty fun IMO. Can't wait to get to 2 though, it's my favourite :)

The depth perception is all messed up as the visibility of the circular shadow when jumping is terrible. In certain lighting conditions and on certain objects/materials it's either extremely hard to see it or it is not visible at all.

The games are great otherwise outside minor issues with the soundtrack and the mechanics not being exactly the same as the originals.

Road to Nowhere I got 3 game overs with 21 lives expended each time lol. I was trying to do it without the rope trick though. By my 4th set of lives I made it to the final section on my first try though, The difficulty is so inconsistent, I haven't found any of the other levels difficult enough to lose more than 4 or 5 lives, the 4 levels I played after this one were a breeze and I'm back up to 39 lives. I find the depth perception crappy in Crash 1 which is why a purely vertically oriented pinpoint jumping level is so unfun.

In the E3 coliseum panel they said they were just bad at it. They realised it in the sequels which are much easier.

To be fair, it feels like Crash 1 suffered from more getting used to 3d then just pure dickery (Unless I'm wrong). Crash 2 is we're they learned how to design 3d levels better.

The shadow is still invaluable on the high bridge crash 1 levels, just like on ps1.

PS4 PRO with a standard HDD here. Yup, that's exactly how long it takes to load for me, lol.

This game worth getting for just Crash 2 and 3? I hated Crash 1 back in the day due to poor controls and bad gameplay design. What's funny is that I played Crash 3 some and enjoyed it but don't remember it at all versus remembering Crash 1 clearly, which I hated.

Definitely not getting the Crash 1 platinum. I'll be happy if I even finish it. Always hated Crash 1 compared to 2 or 3, even as a kid. For a split second i thought maybe it wasn't as bad as i remembered until I got to Road to Nowhere and yeah it's pretty awful still.

Yeah, Road to Nowhere was rough for me, too. I've yet to get a game over, but I wasted most of my lives on that one level. The analog controls are terrible, so I've been using the D-Pad, which just reminded me how much I dislike D-Pad controls for these types of games.

On the whole, I'm still having fun (weird difficulty spikes aside). Crash 1 was always a bit rough around the edges, so I'm actually really looking forward to Crash 2 onwards.

Wish this had HDR, though. :(

You can do it. Don't give up!

I need to replay Crash 1 again soon. Aside from dumb saving system and all gems need to be no deaths, I think jumping mechanics in this game make this game somehow even harder. Or maybe muscle memory wants to work in a way that doesn't work in this game.

I never heard that Native Fortress or Bridge levels were gameover spots. Did anyone suffer in those levels in original game? I don't remember original being that hard when not doing 100%.

The themes at least are kind of junk so no stress (can't remember the last time I encountered a good pre-order theme anywhere).

That kinda eases the pain heh. I did download the free launch theme and avatars and I really like the dynamic theme and the way they changed all the icons, so not all is lost.

Hell yeah getting to the end of Native Forest and the fucking game crashes

Fuck off with this shit.

Guess I'm moving on to Crash 2 early because I am not in the mood to do all of that again. I only died a couple times too.

I get every box in hog wild.

still 2 seconds slower than the leader. wtf?

how is this possible on an on rails level?

the only thing i can think of is they hit the timer with the ass of the hog but is that really 2 seconds worth?

I see what you lads mean about Native Fortress, however most of my deaths in the final stretch tned to come from how I pressed my inputs, namely whether to HOLD Jump or Forward, or not to hold them.
VV should alter the last 3 torches though...

The world record on Hog Wild is 2 seconds ahead of me

How?? You don't even have control on that level?

I think I know. You can die at the last jump (it was either spikes or the animal spinning), and it projects you onto the finish. I bet that's how they did it. Not 100% sure though.

One of the best things to happen in recent years. What a nostalgia trip, plus so well executed. My kids are gonna be playing it one day!!

Now if I could only pass The Lost City with all crates (damn bonus section is even more frustrating than the level itself).

I agree, it's so nice to have the definitive version of the Crash Trilogy that will be able to be played forever without future gamers being turned off by dated graphics.

I want the entire PS1 catalog remade the same way, it's not too much to ask.....right?

I cannot get the double jump where you have to jump over the tnt boxes in the bonus level for double header right for the left of me. i'm ashamed :/
