Hollow Knight |OT| Cute Insects That Just Want to Burrow Into Your Heart

I've found, generally speaking, if you focus more on not getting hit than trying to deal damage, none of the bosses in the game are too difficult, including The Radiance.

I switched from the XB1 controller to the Dualshock 4 since it looks like it helps a bit with the input lag but I noticed that I don't get any kind of rumble... I can't remember... Is there actual rumble in the game and the DS4 doesn't have it or there's just no rumble at all?

Finished up for the day with the distant village, just one more doodad on the map to go I think.
But man, talking about the village...
Whew a bench, just gonna take a seat with my new pals and their goofy music and...uh oh, I've made a huge mistake.
I got chills.

Deepnest is horrible in all the best ways.

Man, I played through about 8 hours of this on the weekend. Wasn't feeling it at first but now I love it.

It's also a GORGEOUS game to show off those OLED blacks and in 4k....stunning.

Looking forward to sinking in a lot more hours during the weekend. Also looking forward to using the new ability I just got and finding some new secrets.

I beat the White Palace!

A bit frustrating at times, but worth it in the end. Now on to grind the final boss...

I think I'm done with this game, at least for a while.

Some great design, some poor design, great music, pacing issues and some bosses are just really BS.

After 28 hours of progress, enjoying myself, frustrated getting lost with no direction and dying in some areas that aren't design with backwards and forwards progression in mind (seriously, quitting and out and reloading gives you progress and puts you back at your last save), I can't take it anymore.

7/10

It's insane to think that there are over 2 dozen bosses in this game. I wish they had a boss survival mode that unlocked after you beat it. Would be so fun.

Spent almost an hour today trying to figure out how to progress, eventually stumbled upon the dung defender, I get the feeling I left this guy WAY later than the game expected me to, well maybe.

Now I'm stuck again, I got all the stag stations so presumably the insect world is my oyster yet I still can't pass those pesky black shadowy things.
Oh but I do remember getting a key, I just about remember where I think it goes, guess that'll be my next stop.

The item that allows you to pass the black barriers is
completely optional and only required for the 'true' ending'
. To finish the game, you only need two of the spells and three movement upgrades. There's a lot of optional stuff in the game, so it's easy to get caught up in it rather than heading straight to the end, especially if you're just wandering around willy-nilly.

I also had problems progressing towards the end of my playthrough, but it mainly came down to me finding a few new areas, exploring one, reaching a dead end, and forgetting to double back and explore the other. That happened 2 or 3 times. By the time I actually went to the final boss, I was already at 89% completion.

Went to the
Deepnest
, and it is such an awesome place. I loved
those bugs walking on your screen!
Really neat touch!
The lead up to the boss
(Nosk) and the battle location were all really creepy
and really well done.

Still got a little more to explore in there. Loving it so far!

Edit: Just resting my feet for a bit.

81%, 21 hours.
That's where I'm at right now, credits rolled but I'm guessing I'm not quite done yet.
Something in my inventory needs to be made whole for one.

Longer thoughts when it's not like 3:30 AM (yes this game did that to me).

Steamspy is now showing this as having >415,000 owners, which it absolutely deserves. Looks like the summer sale was a slam dunk for them.

I cannot believe how good this game is for $10, it is insane. I picked it up during the summer sale and didn't play anything else for the 25 hours it took me to finish it (both normal and optional bosses).

I bought the game on GOG, so counting that platform, the total sales should be 500K+.

I am 30+ hours in and about 70-80% of the way through. For ~$10, this was an absolute steal! And the devs will be releasing a free content upgrade in a few weeks. Amazing!

I started with Hollow Knight yesterday and kept playing for over 4 hours straight. Might be my new favourite metroidvania (not counting the dormant Metroid- and Castlevania-series).

Now that I am end game, I do see how an extra stag near the bottom would be useful. Good to see the devs are adding that in. Also looking forward to their new fast travel system (if it ends up being that).

Bought it in the steam sale and really enjoying it.

Minor complaint, but it really bugs me, the delay between pressing the map button and it showing is far too long with there not being a mini-map on the screen at all times.

I really wish it was instant, and I really wish it didn't bother me so much

Really amazing game and well deserved success to the 3/4 developers. Also picked it up on summer sale as with a lot of people evident by the resurgence of this thread. Took me 39 hours to 100% and it's captured my interest so much that I am considering doing a steel soul mode run after an extended break.

Do you guys play with the DPad or the Analog Stick?

I was only using the stick while playing with the XB1 controller but now that I've switched to the Dual Shock 4 I moving more and more to the DPad

Also, I've done what I've feel like is everything I can do in
Forgotten Crossroads, Greenpath and Fungal Wastes
zones.... and I don't really know where to go now.

The last power I unlocked is the
RT dash

DS4 D-Pad 100% of the time. I need that precision for the downward pogos and upward slashes.

It sounds like you may want to explore the Fungal Wastes a bit more.
There's another skill coming up soon.

DPad 100% of the time, the analog stick is just way too imprecise.

EDIT: I suspect the people complaining that the downward slash bounce doesn't always work are using analog stick. I've never missed a pogo unless it's my fault. I even mostly pogo across spikes instead of dash since it feels faster. :D

Xbox One controller, D-pad

The game has issues with the Xbox One Controller for some reason. It'll continue your input or not read it about 15-20% of the time, which is why I went to my 360 controller.

Anyways, after a couple of days off I decided to return to this. I wish there was an item that let you know where the rest of the Mask Shards are.

Out of curiosity which revision of the Xbox One controller do you have and is the firmware updated? As I mentioned before, I completed the entire game including the true final boss on an Xbox One controller (DPad) and never experienced any of that.

Were you wired or wireless?

I was using mine Wireless and definitely having some issues

I'm a bit OCD about input latency so mine is always wired, I don't even have batteries in it. If that's the problem that would explain why I never experienced it!

Could be! I'd have to tried mine wired to see if I get any differences from wireless.

I switched to the DS4 for now and I'm happy with its better dpad

Mine doesn't. Wireless.

Has anyone else had problems with areas not loading? I'm in the Fungal Wastes (or something) and when I want to enter specific areas the game just gets stuck on a black screen forever. Music still plays but the loading never finishes. I'm fairly certain they aren't just pitch black dark areas because I can't hear anything when I try to attack or dash.

It's really too bad, I was enjoying it so far but it looks like it's broken for me and I can't find anyone else having the same problem.

I had this happen a couple times. One time I had to close out the game, and the other it just randomly popped in after trying to move a while. Might be a camera thing because I've had other times where the camera would go on the fritz and just drift off randomly or go outside the bounds of a boss fight room half way

Are you supposed to be able to jump higher with the bouncy purple mushrooms? Without a special power anyway?

I'm kinda stuck right now and running out of ideas...

Edit: NVM!! Just found out how!

and this is why i think they should force teach the pogo mechanic in the first area.

So if I beat the game, will I be able to go back and try and get what I missed?

BIG Area Spoiler, somewhat related to the above spoiler
White Palace is a neat idea, but it needed one more Bench near the end I feel. I also feel like the game needs a Defense Up item.
