Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

It's bizarre. It's not just Halo MCC. The digital 360 version of ODST doesn't have Firefight either. Was there some license issue for some part of it?

Are you sure? Because the 360 digital version should just be the disc image of the actual disc. and the XBL description for it specifically states Firefight is present.

"The Games on Demand version includes only the Campaign and Firefight modes. It does not include the Halo 3 competitive multiplayer functionality or maps."

The digital 360 version does contain firefight. It is called Halo 3: ODST Campaign Edition because it does not contain the Halo 3 Mythic multiplayer content that was on a separate disc.

I'll tell you what's happened, Microsoft marketing creamed thier fucking pants when BLOPII charted and want some of that action, bumping the Halo games to the top of the list of titles to work on. That's probably why we are not getting anything.

Too bad they killed halo for me with the MCC shitshow.

I go to H5 getting 4k update, people is shitting on MCC.
I go to older Halo games being added to BC, people is shitting on MCC.
I go to worst multiplayer game of all times, people is shitting on MCC.
I go to the backwards compatible Xbox games, people is shitting on MCC.

haha, no matter what thread I access to, someone is shitting MCC today XD

It's a pretty deep wound. It was the ultimate Halo fan package with tons of potential and was aggressively marketed as such. Shy of a hefty re-do, there are a lot of fans who won't ever let it go, and it's kind of reasonable.

I understand that and its reasonable to be angry about it, but at this point any Halo thread, no matter if its completely unrelated to MCC, will get bombed with MCC is shit comments. Not very healthy IMO.

MS just wiped their ass with the franchise and knowingly shipped a broken MCC for the holiday bump. 343 has been a huge disappointment after Bungie left as well. Their halo games aren't made for long time fans that bought the original Xbox for Halo. No local co-op? get fucked.

Felt bad, but it's done. I don't give a shit about halo anymore.

Let me counter that one.
I played all sp campaigns from mcc and i never had a single bug in those games.

I loved it and i dont get the hate it gets here.
It prob my fav game on the xbone

I never bought MCC as I was burned out on Halo at that point.

I'm thrilled to see CE Anniversary BC. If I'm going to replay a Halo, it's always going to be CE.

That's understandable, but getting some Halo games on BC is entirely unrelated to how MCC turned out.

Yeah, that was annoying. Felt like they were trying to squeeze just a few extra Live subscriptions out of people by taking away local co-op, but at least it's back in Halo 6.

Because Halo is Xbox and Xbox is Halo. It's their biggest franchise, the one that spawned several >5M games, books, novels, TV series, action figures and more collectible items. The one that used to (and still does) move millions of players around its multiplayer action. The juggernaut of online gaming between 2004 and 2012. Probably the biggest new videogaming IP in the 21st century, especially considering its exclusivity to a single platform.

MCC could've been the ultimate collection for the Xbox fan. The biggest games compilation ever made. It could've hyped a ton of people just in time for Halo 5 and help Xbox One overcome the insane unpopularity that console has had since the first reveal.

And they failed spectacularly.

The fact that it's an HALO collection should be enough for them to make it work, it's like their business card has a spelling mistake.

Exactly. Which is why these people being so obsessed are literally insane (and definitely not "reasonable"). Also, the sp portion of MCC is great.

My read on the MCC hate, it could have been one of the greatest collections of classic games in one package and while the Single Player was great, the multiplayer- always one of Halo's biggest draws- was broken at launch and despite patches, is (rightly or wrongly perceived as) still not worth the effort of trying to play online.

The old games being BC is a nice gesture. I'd rather MCC worked because it could have been glorious rather than a trainwreck.

that said, if you want to do the campaigns, def get the MCC.

I agree. I never had any of the mentioned issues with the campaign. I played all games from beginning to end over a week after it launched. I did not do the multiplayer, but it seemed that was the biggest issue and most people bought the MCC for the MP. However, even if they were to add or give those original games away I don't think I could go back from the 1080p60 we got in the MCC.

It's not great. Sound cutting off, achievements not unlocking, playlists resetting, random lag are all but qualities of a great game.

It's all about luck though, I haven't had any issue honestly, but I know many that did. If you're lucky it's the best way to experience the Halo series.

Agreed. I played through all the campaigns on MCC and didn't notice any issues worth having a lifelong grudge over. If anything, I thought they were better because they were 60 FPS.

Maybe I have always been missing something about "what makes Halo Halo" but I have also really enjoyed 4 and 5, and I think 343 has done a solid job with the series. MCC was obviously a rush job which is unfortunate for those who bought it at launch at full price but get over it.

My only complaint with modern Halo has been taking out splitscreen in 5, but they said it will be back in 6.

If you own a game digitally already on 360, if it gets added to BC can you just redownload it on Xbox one?

I have some stuff like Dust: An Elysian Tale and Saints Row that I'm wondering, if they ever get added to I have to repurchase it?

I don't think it was so much a rush job as it was an issue having 2 or 3 different outside studios work on the ports and MP. It should have been 1 studio doing all the work. Basically, they created a front end to link the ports and MP together. However it just did not work out so well for the MP, but the SP was great for me and many others.

If the game is BC compatible it doesn't matter if you got a physical copy or a digital license that you bought many years ago on the 360. You won't need to repurchase the game again:

- If you've got a digital license it'll simply appear in the "ready to install" section.
- If you've got a physical copy simply pop-in the disc and it'll download the BC version, you'll still need the disc when you want to play to proof that you own that game.

My friend and I just played Dead Space 3 last night through co-op. I never played it and I see that it changed from the last installment. It ages pretty well and we had fun. Does anyone know where I can get a good comparison for DS3 360 vs BC X1? I mean it looked and played pretty decent from what I remember of the OG Deadspace on 360.

Ha, indeed. MCC was my first time playing the whole sage from the begining. My most loved game on Xbox One, though I didnt play MP, where most of issues happened.

The second half of Halo 3 was ruined for me by audio bugs. I didn't play a level in the single half of the game that didn't have the music drop out, then restart, then drop out again; sound effects drop for entire levels; and cut scenes where Chief's audio tracks didnt play, along with occasional other VA dropping out, playing over top of other, or popping in minutes late. This isn't even mentioning the 34 minute load time it took to pull up my saved game in the Covenant stage.

Oh, and I just played it this past weekend with all the most recent updates applied.

Single player is just as broken as multi.

So this isn't me saying the glitch you ran into is impossible, but I played through Halo 3 on MCC three times in total (one was split-screen co-op). I'm familiar with at least eight other people who were playing it contemporaniously with me. None of us ran into audio errors like that. And having played the series in the original iterations, glitches like that certainly wouldn't be exclusive to a re-release.

I DO have trouble believing someone would actually wait 34 minutes to pull up a save file, which is also an issue I'm not familiar with, even having followed the patching of MCC right along. At launch, Halo 2 Anniversary wouldn't save mid-level progress for me (just by chapter) even with a proper "save and quit," but that was patched fairly quickly.

All that being said, the announcement of BC support for the original releases means you don't need to worry about the issues you ran into, and you'll also have some level of improvement if all the other BC titles are any indication. If you're playing multi, there's now a larger player base without any map-pack divisions because all those add-ons were made free.

I like this post. I think many would let it go if it was polished quite a bit and then maybe made a games with Gold. Even if MS had to rebuild this game from the ground up, they need to do it at some. There's just so, so much potential.

My hope was a Halo 3 anniversary remix with a collection of maps and modes and for them to make it mix in with the Halo 2 anniversary MP playlist after the population dies down a little. That tied with some serious fixes, would make for a great reason for people to revisit this game. Also, maybe add in custom game servers like in Halo 5

The one mind-boggling thing about MCC that glitched for me are the playlists. I will play like 4-5 levels into the Legendary playlists and then my progress gets reset to a previous level. And what sucks is that I either have to replay the earlier level again or restart the whole playlist. We can't just choose the level that we originally left of from. Made me abandon trying to finish the playlist. Makes me mad they never fixed this.

From time to time I've seen people asking about if you can still get the first Forza Horizon digitally - I did myself some months back - and I just noticed that Cdkeys has it in stock again at €7.99, if anyone is looking:

Thank you so much for posting this. I missed the game the last time the downloadable version went on sale before being removed and it's been bugging me ever since that I won't have it easily accessible when I eventually buy an X1X.

I would love to see King Of Fighters XII or XIII BC. SNK has been pretty good to the program, wonder why these haven't appeared yet.

Yeah, same here. No bugs ever, I even played online multiplayer. It's my preferred way to enjoy Halo.

I can't believe Ninja Gaiden still isn't backwards compatible. It's undeniably my top request. Black, NG2 and Razor's Edge, I NEED them.

On the other hand I played 360 BC for the first time yesterday, which also marked my first time ever playing Gears of War 2. Mighty impressive stuff. I watched some playthroughs prior to playing it so I kinda know how it's supposed to be, and it works incredibly well. Considering the emulation layer it's almost unbelievable how well it all works.
