Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

This isn't true. I've played certain games on both platforms and 720p games look better on the 360. Resolutions are hard coded into the XBE files anyway so if you have an HD display it will render at the highest possible resolution it can. Unless you can prove otherwise.

The games were the same resolution , I think the 2 halo games had some extra AA, but that was as far as enhancements went

Wasn't that the case too with Soul Calibur 2 on an actual OG xbox? It supported 720p but only outputted at 4:3 AR for that resolution. I didn't have a 720p TV back then though so I couldn't test this

Yeah that was what happened, it has black borders to make it 4:3

Maybe because I have a PAL copy of the but SCII is certainly running at a low res and in true widescreen on the 360.

Most games had added AA but I don't know any that are up ressed. Still though some games like Jade Empire would show a lot more detail when upscaled, I remember testing it at each resolution and the tattoo on his back got a lot sharper as I went up.

With OG Xbox BC on its way, has MS announced anything on putting out new OG Xbox games for purchase on the Xbox Store? Or are we still stuck with the ones that have been on sale since the early 360 days?

As far as I know there has only been crimson skies announced. They Never said anything about the OG Xbox games that were compatible with the 360 being compatible with Xbox One.

Master Chief collection that actually works. Look how well COD Ghosts was received... Fuck you back compat team, you made something great for the fans and allowed marketing to subvert it. Back to normal right? one week of releases of which one day had value after a dry month and now another week of no releases.

It's like we refuse to get MCC working but here is the games backwards compatible.

As a single-player experience, I feel the MCC is good enough, but I realize a lot of people still feel burned by the shortcomings in MP. From everything I've ever read, that project was a nightmare that sounded a lot easier to pull-off on paper than it was in real-life. It took longer and cost more than they ever anticipated and even then it still has some major issues. I don't expect them to ever fix it the way people want it to work due to the costs involved that they would never re-coup.

That being said, it's not that the 360 Halo games shouldn't be BC, but they probably shouldn't have made an announcement about it. If they were smart they should've just quietly showed up one day. By making noise, they're just re-opening old wounds and creating an opportunity for MCC bitterness to surface again.

Like they'd give up a chance to charge people for something a second time.

They're not charging us to play the older games we already own on the X1. Both Sony and Nintendo do this so that's worth something.

I'll tell you what's happened, Microsoft marketing creamed thier fucking pants when BLOPII charted and want some of that action, bumping the Halo games to the top of the list of titles to work on. That's probably why we are not getting anything.

Just look at the top list of most requested titles to become BC, many already have a Xbox One version:

Skyrim 177 391 votes

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare - 119 953 votes

Batman Arkham City - 78 093 votes

GTA V - 60 815 votes

Batman Arkham Asylum - 58 558 votes

Halo 4 - 57 168 votes

Halo 3 - 55 149 votes

Dishonored - 41 867 votes

Halo 3 ODST - 35 567 votes

So even though they already have a version on Xbox One, there are still many who wants these titles to become BC.

The second half of Halo 3 was ruined for me by audio bugs. I didn't play a level in the single half of the game that didn't have the music drop out, then restart, then drop out again; sound effects drop for entire levels; and cut scenes where Chief's audio tracks didnt play, along with occasional other VA dropping out, playing over top of other, or popping in minutes late. This isn't even mentioning the 34 minute load time it took to pull up my saved game in the Covenant stage.

Oh, and I just played it this past weekend with all the most recent updates applied.

Single player is just as broken as multi.

It's possible that they can't without committing to a complete overhaul.

They should at least offer these games for free to people who bought MCC.

They should probably commit to a complete overhaul in that case.
Agreed, If Microsoft is so commited to the Halo franchise, they need to step it up, I think they have done more damage with MCC being terrible and how Halo 5 is. It's just a shame they treated a once great franchise like this.

So even though they already have a version on Xbox One, there are still many who wants these titles to become BC.
I have no issue with the games becoming BC, I think that's a great thing but they should be fixing MCC as well.

I don't get why anyone would give them a pass for dropping the ball with the MCC. Every 6 months a 343 dev says "maybe we'll have News in the future!" and then they ignore the actual complaints.

The halo games were gonna be BC regardless of MCC state simply because it was published by Microsoft. Minecraft will be BC aswell at some point

Sweet. Beats paying £4 for ODST through the MCC when GAME has it for £1.49 used.
