PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I felt exactly the same way when i started playing. Even though i have a lot of experience playing FPS games. Having a good aim helps, but i feel what is more important in this game is situational awareness. For example when you want to run across the field to loot house make sure you look around using Free Look. I have killed so many people just because they don't check their surroundings and have no idea that i am really close to them, but i see them because i actively check my surroundings. Another important thing is footstep sounds. Make sure you have nothing playing on background or make sure you can hear footsteps clearly. Sometimes you have to be sneaky and listen to footsteps and sometimes have to rush them. I think it comes with experience, the more you play the better your decision making will be. You will also learn how each gun works and that will help you a lot as well. Its more fun learning it while playing with friends than solo.

I like playing aggressively. Getting kills in this game is hella satisfying and i don't like camping. I don't mind dying at all, but the loading times for this game is still ridiculous even with SSD. That's the only reason i hate dying in this game.

I def. think the two things ppl need to focus on improvement wise when they first drop in is situational awareness and then actual shooting.

When you hear gunfire, even if you're not moving in that direction still take note of it etc. Quick way to work on your shooting is to do those school/hospital/city drops. Learn how to peak corners.

Also worth nothing that kinda like socom, lag/network seems to favor the aggressor in a lot of scenarios (particularly close range). So say you're corner peaking and someone is coming around to you, don't wait for him to reach you, jump out and meet him. Odds are the fight will end in your favor.

Not a big aggressive player myself but it's good to remember that sometimes it *is* the best course of action. Adapt etc.

The test server will always run better than the full game because there's less load on the servers, take that with a grain of salt.

I think that one is super important in end game. You'll literally will be surrounded by enemies, so knowing their approximate location will increase your chances to win.

one thing that's a problem for me is knowing why i lost because a lot of the time it seems like it can just be the rng

it's hard to know what i could have done better when maybe there was absolutely no winning a given game

So I played with some friends tonight and we accidentally dropped in separate spots. So when they died, I went on a suicide mission, shooting shotgun shells in the air in towns. Got near apartments and some magic happened. This is why I love this game

My problem with this game is that you can be top 10 and do very well by just doing... Nothing. I have a total of 7 hours played and already made it to number 2 twice simply by avoiding fights and hiding out. I don't think someone with my beginner level should be able to reach number 2 so easily.

I think human nature makes this self correcting.

A. This gets boring pretty quickly. People who play more then 30 hours aren't going to keep doing this.
B. You get no experience in combat and will likely fail to actually win.

First time I've been killed by a grenade, shit sucked lol.

I shouldn't have popped smokes and just stayed inside of them, it was easy for the guy to just aim for that area.

I also realize that this isn't a game that you should play to just chill. I was like "I'll just go around and loot in non-popular areas see how far I get, feeling lazy tonight" And then the top 10 comes and your heart starts pumping.

Smoke physics appear to be client-side too. What looks like an awesome bit of cover to you may not be any cover at all from the other guy's point of view.

Just won a squad round, was quite a bit of fun. Blind through a grenade over the crest of a hill at a squad that had us pinned, it knocked one guy down. I followed it with a mini-uzi rush and caught the next two guys collapsing on their down guy. Rest of my squad cleaned them up. Surprise!

Yeah I remember hearing about that. It was an open field and I knew he was inside the circle, just not where, so I had limited choices.

Next time I'll just pop them and go around instead of inside them.

Why is that a problem?

Reaching number #2 is doing just as much losing as someone who finished like #80.

And, avoiding fights and hiding out can be a totally valid strategy.

Dumbest round in the universe.

Land in Pochinki, there's only one other player (????) there that I see at first.

I find nothing except shotguns. Pochinki is 100% shotguns. There is a single Uzi.

There's the other guy doing the Batman on a roof. He is staring right at me. I shoot him with a pistol and he drops down and runs at me.

He runs into a house opposite mine while I try to find a gun, and does absolutely nothing.

I eventually poke my head and see his box right outside the door. He died to the fucking red.

I loot. There's way too many looted houses.

I see a guy on the road to school who does not see me at all despite being 50m away. He is the third Pochinki mystery man.

I run as fast as I can, he never spots me as I follow him up the big mountain.

Right as I get into the white, I try to follow him on the left, when suddenly another guy with actual guns further to the left looks past me and shoots him.

New guy immediately sees me and starts shooting at my tree.

I throw a single smoke and almost make it to a tree before dying.

There were only 25 people left.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
I don't play solo often, but man, was pretty ticked today.

The circle gods were in my favor, though my loot was total ass. No scope. Level 1 everything. Terrible. Final circle, and I'm lucky enough to have my back to the blue and a rock in front of me - forcing the other two people to leave the houses (I think) they're in and head my direction.

I just waited.

And waited.

Guy slowly starts crawling to my right. He has to know I'm behind the rock, but he can't do anything. He crawls. Crawls more. POP POP POP... I kill him with my UMP. And then INSTANTLY, there's a guy crawling behind him the whole time and shoots me.

They were buddied up in solo :(

Also I had another weird Pochinki round where I got the auto fire bug for the first time in ages while a guy was punching me and my AK would just stop firing. I lost a huge chunk of health before it finally fixed itself, and then right as I found some bandages the guy in the other building plinked my butt with like two UMP bullets through the windows to kill me. :(

Had an amusing solo round where I made the top 15 (yeah yeah) and as I was casing the outside of the circle supposedly all stealthy I hear a metallic chunk right behind me. I spin around to see a crate not 5 feet from me on the ground. My first thought: "oh shit". Sure enough, 3 seconds later it's point blank firefight city. I lose trying to hip fire my scoped AK in the confusion instead of switching to my holo AR and aiming.

I really enjoy the streams for this game too, something about it lends itself to viewing. Doc, Grimmz, Josh, Viss, really quite the crew of streamers out there and pulling big viewing numbers.

I do get amused by the 360 kills though, seen it backfire on Doc and Josh at least twice.

Wondering what would happen if a crate landed on a player? Instadeath?

What's everyone's plane jumping strats in solo?

I currently have a solid strategy of getting away as far as humanly possible from the plane's flight path and I always seem to have a town or two completely to myself before even having to bother with the circle. After that I locate a bike and just haul ass to duke it out in the hot zones.

I can't state my love for the bike enough. That thing is the king of mobility, flexibility and speed. Got some sweet, sweet SKS kills with the 8X scope today. I just kept spotting dudes in the distance, rode my bike to an elevated position, jumped off and put holes in them from a mile away.

I tend to move away from the plane path and hit an isolated house or building. Loot it, aim for the centre of the circle and progress there.

Or I dive into the middle and go nuts as soon as

I got this for my birthday from my friends today. Played a few solo games since I'm off work and damn this is hard. I survived both times until the top 40, but the second time I tried to get clever with a buggy, somehow flipped it on the way to the bluezone and died from falling trying to get out of it lol.

Word to the wise: never, ever disembark from any vehicle going faster than 2mph.

I'm not having any fun in solo anymore. It's just a game of everyone sitting and waiting for someone to start moving, just who can get the drop on who and who has the longer range gun. Honestly feels more luck based than skill based at this point.

Thats how i got my 400m k98 kill too, find the dude, look at the map to get a better grasp of the distance, zero the sight and poof. Each tiny square on the map is 100m it helps a lot when zeroing your sights.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f08TKpguMws&feature=youtu.be this guy from the Onward discord did the same with the awm.

You don't predict the travel, you count the distance to zero the sights :)

Edit: but 700m with a k98 is damn impressive heh

I decided to drop at Military Base and see how it would go in solos. Made it out alive with 3 kills and 3 AR suppressors (lol) Hadn't seen that many AR suppressors in a week of playing. Finished with a chicken dins and 7 kills :)

OK, keep it real. How prevalent are cheaters in this game?

I really hate the 'Hur hur he killed me he must be cheating hur dur' mentality and I'm perfectly comfortable with the fact that, as an average (at best) player, I will be outplayed 5/10 times, but some really fishy shit has been going on lately.

Never seen anything that felt like cheating. The game has clientside hit detection and low tickrate which will make many kills seem fishy because you get killed through walls or by cars you dodged etc.

I really don't think playerunknown understands game development and doesn't even have a good grasp of what the studio is doing. He blurts out "it's coming" on twitter then says something completely different on discord
"Dedicated first-person servers will take some time as it requires a lot of work from all teams, [it's] not as easy as just flipping a switch. "Our game, platform, engineering, and gameplay teams all need to do work to make it happen, and they are all quite busy with optimisation work at the moment!".

http://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-to-get-...te-dedicated-first-person-servers-a-ways-off/

So which one is it?

He did the same with the games release date, "It'll be done in 6 months" to "It might take longer". I'd take anything this guy says regarding this game with a pinch of salt, it seems he's more just a poster child than reliable development news.
