I love this game but Christ.

Was this a problem in the original? I'd say at least 1/3 of my losses happen because some drops or goes AFK and we're outnumbered.

Just his Profreshional in Salmon Run. My rank up final wave was probably the nicest Fog of War wave that anyone has had to ever deal with, so I appreciated the act of mercy prior to be dumped right into the innermost circle of aquatic hell.

And considering I just pulled over 50k in gold from all of my bonuses as well as selling a shirt, yeah, I think that was a good day's work.

Who the fuck is this for? Stay at home parents? Kids/workers out sick? People on vacation?! The fuck Nintendo

I'm hoping these hours are only tentative/because they're still testing things out with the mode and that it will eventually be consistently 24 hours or not during bizarrely inconvenient hours for everyone

I hope so too the mode is pretty popular already.

Played Salmon Run for a sec after half a day off and immediately remembered how f*cking ridiculous it is and stopped.

---

Day one I thought it was stupid that there was any time restriction on when you could play the mode, but now I honestly wish it would be available even less frequently than it is now.

I think I'm ready to make this bold claim.

I liked the maps in the first Splatoon more than this game. Like, a lot more.

My two favorite Splatoon 2 maps are....the two returning maps from the previous entry. I hope we get more classic maps soon. I need Saltspray Rig and Kelp Dome back in my life. I also hope future new maps are a lot more interesting than what we have now.

AGREED

also blackbelly skatepark > current skatepark

You've come to the wrong thread, squid

So jealous of everyone in Salmon Run getting money. Grizz is only paying me in ability chunks today. Why the hell do you need ten of these for one slot?

Since you actually get to select your sub-skills this time rather than relying on RNG, that would be how they balanced the increased flexibility.

Wooh! Just got my tenth straight win in turf war! It brings me to 21 victories and 22 defeats overall, so I was having a bit of a rough time before this streak.

Sorry for the pointless brag but it feels pretty good to have turned things around a bit.

Bleh I just noticed GrizzCo is only open until 8 tonight. Was it like that yesterday too? I know during the weekend it was available like 22 hours a day.

Whole team dying in the last few secs of salmon run is:( especially on wave 3 lol.

I'm of the opinion that as long as you get to wave 3, the game has gone well. At worst, no one will lose rank at that point and you're pretty much guaranteed pretty close to what you would normally bank on a successful completion if you manage to wipe or can't meet quota.

My time with overwatch has made me that much more aggravated by teammates, first splatoon I was a cool cat, now? I kinda hate what I can become in moments of poor team play.

On the other hand, rainmaker on moray towers is kinda trash anyway.
At least I got a team kill there with a quad splashdown from the rail, one redeeming moment.

You're nuts. Humpback Pump Track is probably the best map this series has.

But in general, yeah, Splatoon 1 maps > Splatoon 2 maps so far.

I just want the Warehouse back. =/

Humpback and Starfish Main Stage are pretty godlike though.

Kelp Dome needs to make a comeback, however.

Got up to Profreshional today. 200% and up is actually pretty manageable, since you're paired with players who generally know what they're doing—with the exception of the Goldie waves, where I don't think I've cleared a single one yet. People know roughly what to do with the geysers but we never get it done quickly enough to meet quota, and it's obvious to me that we're all missing something strategic about how to move together, which geysers to pop, and how many to open up at once.

I have to say: I liked Octo Canyon quite a lot when I played it (I cleared it once before doing anything in the multiplayer), apart from how the final boss was such a downgrade from the first game, but Salmon Run blows it out of the water in sheer creativity. It's incredible how many fresh mechanics, from the fog effect to the changing tides to the assortment of minibosses, just didn't make their way into the single-player at all. Most of what makes Splatoon 2 come off as a full sequel is in Salmon Run.

I think I'm ready to make this bold claim.

I adore Humpback Pump Track and Starfish Mainstage, but the preponderance of unpaintable surfaces in maps like Inkblot Art Academy is really getting on my nerves. It's not obvious enough from the surface textures what those unpaintable areas are, especially from a distance, and there are just too many of them in the way.

There isn't anything quite like Saltspray yet (or my personal favourites, Triggerfish and Museum), but I wonder if there really can be with the loss of the GamePad map. The thing about both of the stages you named (Saltspray Rig and Kelp Dome) is that they are, across both games, perhaps the most dependent on persistent map awareness. That's what made them great, and that's what Splatoon 2 will always have trouble replicating.

"oh the enemy team has the tower and its moving towards us?

let's go push their spawn and paint!"

the amount of people I wish I could strangle while playing this game is insane

this is in b rank btw, so if you are thinking it will get better as you rank up... lol

Seriously? You are defending this bullshit? How was this handled in Splatoon 1?

How is it handled in every game that's ever been online? I'm not sure why Nintendo is being put on blast for what's always been a potential issue with online gaming that is never going to go away. It sucks when it happens, but it's a fact of life.

The main thing salmon run is missing is a better form of progression beyond unlocking a harder challenge.

When you get beyond profreshional 99 all you're really getting is a copy of the gear every other game, I know they just consider it a side mode to unlock stuff for the "main game", but I have no interest in the pvp.

It would be nice to be able to get unlocks that can be used in salmon run or maybe purchase upgrades for the loaner weapons, just something to make it a bit more interesting other than trying to get to profeshional 999.

it is easier to rage quit in Splatoon 2 vs. Splatoon tho

in the first game hitting the home menu during a match was restricted, in Splatoon 2 you can back out and close the software during a match. they should probably fix that in an update.

It really depends on the map for the ranked mode to be fun or not.

Starfish and Port Mackeral are claustrophobic for tower control and are a struggle.

after about 12 to 15 hours of gameplay I had my first disconnect in a match, I was unable to reconnect to the lobby until I closed the game and rebooted it.

God I'm at 2 for 2 in salmon run matches getting connection errors

I just want to play the game :(

I cracked and bought an ethernet adapter since 2 feet from my AC router isn't good enough I guess.

Goldie rushes are tough, but once people start noticing the whole targeting gimmick they've got for that wave (always pay attention to who happens to be shining), it gets way easier to manage. Still hectic, of course, but they give you everything you need in order to regain your bearings quickly. Haven't come across geysers yet, but I feel like that Mothership waves are probably the least understood from my experience, just because they don't play like any other wave.

You can reach B by just playing, the fluctuations will make you rank up, seeing how it's hard to lose rank in C.

I'm sure it WILL get better (both in rank and time), I don't remember people playing really stupidly in A after a couple weeks.

jesus fucking christ

just had another game of tower control with an idiot, this time one of my teammates thought it would be beneficial to stay in spawn and just ink like he's playing turf war

That is true, but I'm not sure what they can really do to curb that since that's a basic function of the Switch OS and is right in line with how other consoles handle it. I think for the most part, that's just how things are these days and all you can do is hope you don't get the game where it happens.

Like I said, it sucks when it happens, but I don't know what kind of solution there is for human nature.

I don't understand why you don't earn more capsules after some time. It's already less interesting in terms of rewards than ranked when you get capsule, but shirts each 2000 points?

Reach prodigy (? the one above pro) in Salmon run but I got the geyser thing at first wave, and lost almost a whole bar, so I'm done to pro :/

To clarify, by Goldie waves I meant the geysers, not the glowflies. For the glowflies, on the current stage there's a good place for the glowing player to stand securely on the back line (the bow of the ship), so it's just a matter of paying attention and knowing when to stand back and when to intercept.

Have you not played an online game in past 15 years? Allow to join games in progress for example

Games are only 3 mins. By the time someone gets matched, and loads, they're not going to have a whole lot of time, and we'd probably see loads of people complaining about only getting to play the last 30 seconds of a losing game.

Oh, OK, I got confused since they do call those guys Goldies in-game.

I don't believe you can back out of an ARMS match mid match and close the software

it's a simple solution really, just restrict being able to hit the home button during an online match

ARMS locks you out of the home menu while you are in a lobby or a game, you have to hold the power button to rage quit, so if you are playing docked you have to physically get off your ass and do it
