Well, I was suggesting that experienced people here could suggest things that work or don't work in ranked. I'd like to get better, but I'm not sure I'm doing the best choices from a strategic point of view. I've seen plently of studies for CS, LoL and the like (I'm not even playing those, but it's interesting to read about the strategies), I'd like to see similar studies on Splatoon.

I'd be interested in that myself. While I'm doing pretty good so far at the game, I'm still new and would love to see what more experience people thing is good advice.

I recently (within the past 13 months) started learning to play Street Fighter V and Smash Bros, and there's a large wealth of information across the internet (and GAF) to learn from.

I've yet to find the equivalent for Splatoon, but would love to see something.

think I started my go at Salmon run at 40/99 Go-Getter and after a couple hours I ended at 60/99 Go-Getter...getting the worst groups constantly doesn't help

Dropped all the way from the highest salmon run rank to the beginning of go getter. Round after round after round full of flyfish. There needs to be some sort of balancing patch to address that crap. Definitely the least fun I've had playing SR and it was my favorite mode.

We've probably all experienced this, indeed...

Wanted to kill a teammate yesterday, he thought that the rainmaker was a bonus to do splats... I love the 50 countdown ;)

Just a few tips. On my 📱 right now.

Got to do about an hour of Salmon run last night and gonna get about an hour this morning. Anyone know when it'll be open again? These hours suck.

Guess it's fitting for a job.

Just started playing, still getting to grips with the controls. Playing with detached Joycons seems to be the most comfortable so far but I'm yet not in the habit of keeping the camera centered as I'm looking about.

Lot of fun though! Never played the first Splatoon so I'm coming in fresh. What's the #1 tip you'd offer to somebody brand new at the game?

I'm trying to figure this out too.

Seems like you can only find out how difficult your Salmon Run round was after it's over? Maybe they don't want people to quit up front or something?

Also, I'm playing 120% salmon run rounds right now but I'm definitely not high enough level to be ready to play this. I'm still a "part timer".

Is this just because the matchmaking pool is too small now, so there's no one low enough level for me to get easier rounds for now?

Bumping for the morning / afternoon crowd.

Holy shit, we needed two more on the final round and they were RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TANK and nobody was going for them.

had the same thing happen earlier...we needed 3 more eggs and with about 15 seconds to go a Boss spawned right beside the container...nobody but me even tried to go for him while everyone else was god knows where

No idea how salmon run works out rank but i lost 4 of 5 rounds earlier today all on wave 3 because we got swarmed super badly, more then normal.

Just lost 80 points on my rank, nice.

Fuck this mode so much.

Can't lose rank if they keep scheduling it during my work hours!

I've won rainmaker matches by painting one tiny splotch of paint on a wall and swimming in place on the wall, just until the enemy team marches by and I take out the rainmaker squid ending overtime. It just looks like leftover paint from a previous match.

Makes me feel like the sunglasses dude from Scarface.

Keep getting "connection is unstable" messages mid matches. Guess I'll just play something else today. :/

You on Ethernet?

Just had a game where we completed all three waves but died before time ran out. Nice again.

Just give me the superbonus so I can get the f away from this.

So I've been thinking this since launch. They changed how SR bonus% works from E3 right? I remember those 80% in treehouse looks like what we see now in 180%. And IIRC, they said there's 200% during treehouse means there's 300% in final version.

I'll just throw this in, although I don't know how helpful it is because Splatoon tips are so vague and generalized.

The most general tip I can give is to think about positioning when deciding how to approach an area. I think of Rainmaker situations like giant arrows sometimes, like a football diagram. Where if the other team has the Rainmaker on The Reef and they're pushing it toward the alley, I think of the giant arrow where they are pushing straight that direction. And if I see a couple of my allies already meeting their swarm head-on, maybe I'll go straight across the upper bridge and flank them from behind? Will one of them go/protect the flank and I'll meet them on the bridge? If there's no one meeting the arrow head-on, maybe I just need to throw my body into the fray directly. What weapons they're using obviously plays a role. If they are all out-ranging me, meeting them head-on might be difficult. Some matchups are difficult for your weapon, some weapons need to be taken out first.

Is my team in charge of the Rainmaker and are we're pushing the alley? I'm holding a Tri-Slosher. Okay, maybe I will try jamming their spawn ramp. My range isn't good enough to do anything in that alley, I'll either cut them off or slow them down/distract enough to get some Rainmaker points. Little decisions like that, the do-I-flank-or-don't-I decision. Or are we in a good position and maybe I should step back and either suppress/shark when they return. It's just one map/mode example but those are the general decisions that often make or lose a game.

Some weapons are better at flanking than others, some weapons are good at suppression and being annoying to the fray (hello Jet Squelcher and Splattershot Pro). The biggest thing I'd emphasize is to just pay attention to where your allies are think about ways to put the enemy in pincer situations or situations where they just can't approach. Wasting people's time is a legitimate strategy in this game.

I know that sounds super vague and generalized. I just know that I tend to play Splatoon at my worst when I play it really myopically and only look at the enemy and don't think about the positioning or the giant imaginary arrows as much. There are people way better than me that could chime in, but those are just some of the little decisions I think about when playing.

Welp, I feel like a total idiot. Especially since I've shared this misinformation with people. The "Common Gear Ability" on the SplatNet app in Annie's shop is not, in fact, what Main Ability the Gear usually has, but is just the brand's Sub Bias.

This whole time I thought it was showing you what the Gear would normally have. It's "Common" Main Ability.

Oh man. Seriously, I feel dumb. How I didn't catch that sooner is beyond me.

Basic info: Walls don't count. This was a frequent source of confusion early in the life of the first game, so I think people new to the series risk being confused by it as well. Painting walls can be helpful to open up new movement options, or provide you with a hiding spot, but they do not count towards the score at the end of the match, or towards charging your special.

Strategy wise: The score you get at the end of a turf war match showing how much you painted is not necessarily a good reflection of how much you contributed towards the match. The best way to be succeed is to capture and control territory. Some people may play high inking weapons and run around everywhere painting everything, but allow enemies to come right in behind them to take back to territory they just painted. This will result in a high turf score for the player, but it is not the best way to secure victory because the enemy is able to steal your turf right back. In order to succeed you want to capture key locations on the map from which you can guard the turf you have painted and prevent the enemy from entering your territory. The weapons that are most effective at controlling territory are usually not the fastest painters and may show up with low ink scores at the end of the game even when they played just as they should have. A good team composition will usually have a balance between weapons that are able to quickly paint and weapons that are able maintain control over large areas of the map.

Apparently the Bubble Blower is a super. Didn't expect that, but it makes sense.

Don't feel too bad, I don't see that as much as I see the wrong Amiibo information being constantly spread (IT'S NOT TIED TO LEVEL!)

It's funny, when I complained about this people got on me. It's not fun when newbies ore anyone who is at ready for rank will hold you back, practice firsth than join rank when ready

I think what it boils down to is, everyone has these experiences with teams that perform very poorly, but you also have to recognize it as an opportunity to improve yourself. To some extent, achieving and maintaining your rank is dependent on your ability to carry a game on your back. If you can't do that, you'll always bounce between a higher and lower rank over time.

It's pretty bad in C and B ranks though.
So far I've had little to no issue with teammates at all in 2 days of playing A ranks.

I got to A on Rainmaker first because of how easy it is to carry in that mode. I can just pick the thing up and go on a rampage.

I kept my game on sleep mode and grinded 99 EXP and Cash meal tickets.

How?

Last night my rank gauge broke and I got the B- reset. I don't mind being B- forever, but please don't send me back to C. ;_;

I would kill (errr, splat) for a Bubble Wand weapon. Not sure how it would work, but I'd love it for goofiness alone.

Amiibo is confusing to me still, haven't shared any misinformation, but that's because I just know what things aren't lol. Is it a case of scan amiibo, register clothing, scan again for full set? Or is it scan, play a lot, talk again for full set? Both?

Jump off the tower in overtime. Good choice. The best. You're awesome.

Perhaps a bomb came on the Tower, in which case... They should know how to maneuver around a bomb on the Tower. That sucks. People must not notice the big OVERTIME and warning sirens.

Nah, I saw 2 guys running after 1 enemy. Nearly smashed my tv.

I first thought it was level, but it seems to be scan, level a bit try next day sorta thing, it can still be iffy as in 3 instances with different switches I had one full unlock, one half unlock and one give nothing and all 3 had played the game/levelled lol.

It's some sort of combo of daily limit/levelling

I'm stuck at C rank. I have a feeling I'll never get out of this lol.

There's some sort of counter, not sure if it's the number of games played or the number of games won, but it's something along those lines.

It's not time based, because I got the full Hero Gear set in one day, and if you come back in a few days without playing you won't unlock the full set.

I'm already done with all of my Amiibo, otherwise I would test it out and get actual numbers.

So, is profeshional the max rank in Salmon Run? Got to the max of that rank and had another victory and nothing happened (I think I got a 5% payment bonus, so I'm at 205%).

I believe so. Your rating can still go up past 99 and your pay also goes higher, but it doesn't change rank anymore.
