Splatoon 2 |OT| Fresh Squids 2 Go

Sturgeon Shipyard is an incredibly annoying Rainmaker map. The goal is way too close to the spawn and the pathways lack enough inkable surfaces that can enable a good flank or team push. You're basically forced to play death match in the final stretch. I've rarely ever gotten a Knockout on that map.

Are octobrushes and buckets OP?

I feel like nobody can deal with them well and the maps favor closing on range to holding strong positions.

Reminds me of Luna Blaster hell in S1.

Pretty much same here. They really need to find a fix that doesn't penalize those at a disadvantage.

A good start would be to stop disconnecting idle players. I get it with something like Mario Kart, but in splatoon you penalise the team that way. It's not great having to play 3v4 just because someone was scratching their nose for 5sec at the start of a game.

I love Humpback Pump Track because the ring + your turf is enough to win the match. It's such an odd dynamic that I don't think exists in other maps so explicitly. That said, my last team had no clue and we lost because they would only focus on the center. Also, trying to go against dualie squelchers on the ring portion is a suicide mission.

Honestly, I don't mind that. I find Knockouts underwhelming, I love the gritty struggle.

I've tried the Tri Slosher a few times and didn't really get on with it. I've come up against others using it and still didn't get it, they were just really easy to destroy with any weapon. Is it just for sneak attacks or are you supposed to use it differently/unconventionally? It seems crap in a straight up fight and not especially good for inking either.

I'm sure the pros aren't wrong but I've just found it crap when I've used it and crap when anyone else I've seen has used it.

Getting pretty sick of the shitty disconnects and all too often hilariously one-sided matchmaking.

Matchmaking is terrible in this game. I've had lobbies where one team wins 70-20 and the next round they put everyone on the same team, only to get the exact same outcome. I have just started leaving lobbies when a match goes that lopsided.

They're really annoying when they're defending, especially on a slope. They're also pain in the butts on Tower Control.

Is it wrong the weapon I'm the best with, is the default one we get when we start? Is it objectively worse than others?

Based on my limited sample size of Switch friends, this Splatfest is going to be even more lopsided than I would have predicted. Currently at 23 friends on Ketchup and 2 on Mayo at the moment...

No not at all. The later weapons aren't better in any way. The weapons just suit different playstyles more than anything.

I'm disappointed actually as I'm level 32 and using a weapon I got towards the start of the game.

The Splattershot Jr. is actually pretty good, I wouldn't be ashamed. If you want to try something similar but possibly a little better, you could try the Tentatek Splattershot (more aggressively-minded) or the N-Zap '85 (better at guarding/supporting). I think they're probably the best two Shooters.

I think it's mode dependent, but yeah - I think brushes and buckets are ridiculous in Tower Control. Even though they're not OHKO, they are one hit and you're fucked without some serious ink res.

I don't know what it is with the shipyard but no one ever splats the base. And I don't even mean in the opening of the match, there have been times where I've respawned in the last minute and it looks like it's barely been touched. Paint your spawns

Nope I've seen players levelled in the 20s still using it and doing well. The thing I like about this game that it has so many different weapon types and they're all viable

I actually think they start everyone with the weapon that is best for new players. It's probably the most well rounded weapon.

I think that's the N-Zap '85 - literally anyone can do okay with it in any mode with no prior practice.

The worst map is Starfish Mainstage, by far, and I don't think it's that arguable. It is much too difficult to get out of your own spawn, and the map is very small, meaning the first team to take the centre in the opening 30 seconds will go on to win 9 times in 10. The Reef is fine by comparison. It's a little bland, but the fights over the bridge stop it being one-sided and it doesn't favour any particular weapon type.
Huh. Haven't that experience. All the side-routes and walkways make it pretty easy to get around opponents and pull off flanking attacks that completely turn the tide. Though it is really easy to dominate teams that only try to attack through the middle.

Yeah I've found the left and right side aren't too bad for escaping from bases on starfish mainstage, the problem is people going up the middle or everyone going the same way, I think.

Fuck this. I'm out for today.

If there are 3 level 25-35 players in a lobby with the rest being level 4-12 and they all get get dumped on the same team your matchmaking is fucking garbage.

yeah mainstage has like three primary lanes and you can squid up the walls to those upper scaffolding bits on the side of the stage to get the high ground

i'm still not a big fan of the academy. the fact there's only really one lane in most modes blows. I do like the tower control version more than the rainmaker though

Levels mean nothing other than playing much. I clown on high level players constantly because they're not good at the game.

On splatzones and tower control they are very good.

True to a certain extent. A good player will level up quicker though. Especially if all they play is ranked, as if you lose a lot you get next to no xp, so it's gonna take someone shit at the game a long time to go from 10 to 50.

And to a degree "playing much" can be an advantage. Most people will naturally improve at a game if all they do is play it.

Infact the good players become very good because they "play much" lol.

Also in ranked the levels do mean something, an S+ player is going to be quite decent at the game, but of course there will be some players that might have just gotten lucky, played a lot and been on winning teams too....

From my experience: there are three ways out of your spawn area - the lower walkway on the left, the higher walkway on the right, and the middle gulf. The middle gulf is a big stretch of lower-ground directly accessible from the centre, and is easily held by one good player with a Tri-Slosher or Octobrush. The two walkways are enclosed passages and will be difficult to push through when inked by the opposing team. It's easy for the attacking team to drop down from the walkways to hold a big central push. There's just not an easy way to flank.

I mean, this doesn't apply if the other team only pushes the middle, but that's true of like all maps. By contrast, most other maps, the bottlenecks from spawn to centre are less tight, and you can usually force through.

Levels are tied to gear unlocks. 2 of them had Jet Squelchers which none of us could have out-ranged at our level without ALL being Chargers.

Certainly doesn't excuse the matchmaking.

Mhm, mhm, mhm.

i wish the game would make some kind of sound in the last couple of seconds of a countdown or when the enemy is really close to touchdown cos i keep inadvertantly skipping over it

Using the Starfish Mainstage walkways to sneak around attack the enemy from behind would be a great strategy if there was any way to actually communicate it to to your teammates. As it is, though, most of them will probably focus on fighting the enemy team that currently has complete control of the center, they'll probably die, you'll sneak around and maybe kill one of them before they notice and slaughter you.

Wish they had *mixed* hoppers in social/ranked. Really want to practice chargers but complete ass with them right now and don't want to waste my teammates time in unranked or risk losing league battles in ranked, so can only play for 2/3s of the time in ranked...

I wish the game made it more apparent that I was splat. I keep thinking I died when I didn't, and then I die :)

New stage looks cool
, they really support and love this game, which is great. Really brings a fire to all other Nintendo development groups, I'm sure.

Are people in this thread aware that the Nintendo Parental Controls app can be used to break down hours played on a daily, per-game basis? It even logs time spent in the home menu. Example:

Moray Towers 5 times in a row. Sorry but this map rotation system is absolutely awful. There's no defending this.

I like the way the maps work. Less daunting for new players because you get to learn a map quickly and get to the fun part of competitive multiplayer. In games like Overwatch I could play for a couple of hours and still feel helpless every match.
