As far as I understand it (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong):

(All of these are at Murch)

Ability Chunks

  • Have an item with abilities you want chunks of
  • Reroll or scrub the item
  • Any secondary abilities cleared will give a chunk for that ability
  • You need 10 chunks to slot an ability into an item
  • If you want all three secondary abilities the same, it will cost 10, then 20 and finally 30.

Do you for sure get ability chunks from rerolling? The UI suggests it but I didn't check my inventory to see.

My 3 year old daughter loves watching me play Splatoon so much that she wants to watch videos of other people playing when were not at home.

"I wanna see the paint game daddy!"

How was this map received in Splatoon?

It was my favorite level. I hope they bring it back

Man, I am absolutely godawful at this game. If I'm lucky enough to get a win it's my team's fault for the most part and if I'm lucky enough to get a kill it's either a fluke or I just end up dying anyway. Getting to Level 10 feels like climbing out of goddamn Hades it's taking so much effort; I don't feel like I've gotten any more gud than I did when I started.

Gah! I have to vent for a minute damn it. When the first Splatoon came out my gf bought a WiiU so we could play together. It is her favorite game. All she wants to do is some regular matches together. Come to find out we can't really play with eachother. Now Splatoon 2 is the same shit. Can't play together. I join her in a regular match and it pits us against eachother FAR more than not. Now splatfest comes and it looks like we can join as a team. GREAT! Finally! Except not. Unlike Salmon Run, apparently teams of two can't be a team. It doesn't say you can't be a team mind you. It just let's you sit there in your team of two and never play. SWEET!! :|

How about at least using the " join a friend " option like regular matches? Oh wait that doesn't work in Splatfests? Awesome...

This game is really starting to piss me off. Which sucks because I love it but fuck you Nintendo for makingg a multiplayer game where is damn near impossible to play with my own girlfriend!! #middlefinger

I share all your sentiments.

Hit or miss, really, but that's true of nearly every map not named Kelp Dome. It was considered perhaps the most charger friendly map in the game, so many opinions are biased based on what weapon they liked to play.

Jesus, what was Nintendo thinking with the chunk grind? 50 chunks to match 3 abilities on a piece of clothing? I'd love to see the time investment breakdown for that insanity.

At least there's an alternative to just rolling dozens of times and hoping you get lucky. Although if chunks had a flat cost or even a 10/15/20 rate, it'd be a lot more feasible.

Ok pretty much happy having rolled every shell lol got 1 left... Just one ability off and will use chunks for that. Actually overtime I think we will be swimming in them. Sounds a lot but it goes fast.

Are people doing that, though? It feels crazy to spend the extra 30 chunks instead of waiting for a roll that has just one of the abilities you want. Seems like a waste of chunks.

Then again, people do crazy things for freshness...

I agree the joining a friend is ridiculous in this. My husband won't/doesn't have the time/inclination to play by himself to reach B- (I know this is easy for many of you) so unless I go in and reach B-for him, we'll never play league together.

Turf war throwing you to either side is OK with me however, I actually like that over just being on the same team forever.

Having to have a team of 4 for Splatfest is. 🙄

Just got another new high in Salmon Run, 77 golden eggs! With randoms!

god i miss splatoon 1. its seems so much more... put together. inkstrike :( bubbler :(

I didn't play Splatoon outside of the beta, but I've been watching a shit-ton of JP play since Splatoon 2 came out and it does look better to me. The specials had better aesthetics/ideas IMO, and the final boss in Splatoon 2 being DJ again is kinda uninspired. Plus the netcode woes and range nerfs that I've heard about. Still, at least Salmon Run is great.

If you go for natural biases by scrubbing and leveling a gear until you get the triple, youll get lots of chunks in the progress. But it takes a long time until you can focus on that sorta thing due to the crazy level grind.

What would make things better is if the Snails granted the ability to add any ability to a piece of gear. So with 3 snails you could in theory have gear with 3 of the same. The argument would be that it would make things easier, but perhaps just simply reduce the amount of snails awarded in each splatfest.

I could actually live with the way things are, if that was the case.

Good god I am so sick of randoms. So close to level 30, then I'm taking a break from this game for like a week except for Salmon Run

I know what you mean.
I'm in the middle of a streak with a buddy right now and when we're on the same team, I almost feel sorry for the opposition.
It feels like a completely different game when someone has your back and vice versa.

So the first main ability slot on a piece of gear is more effective right? Like an ink saver in the main slot if going to save you more than an ink saver in the sub slot?

And are there some general dos and don'ts of abilities? I have to imagine that ink saver is good, but I imagine the respawn quicker one is bad? Is it good to load up all 4 with one ability, or is that overkill? Ect.

I think the Aerospray RG (gold) is an even more nasty weapon for Turf War than the MG (silver) is. I laughed at the set when I first saw what it was, but after using it I'm a big fan.

The Baller does a much better job as far as covering the ground, there have been games where I've gotten 3 Ballers in the first minute because of the Aerosprays ridiculous coverage ability. I think I'm favoring the RG for Turf War now (Sprinkler does better for covering ground than Suction, but not as dangerous).

Excellent questions I too wanna know the answer to.

Salmon Run is a total shambles tonight. Think it's the weapons or in teamed with a bunch of muppets, but barely getting off the first wave. Don't think the weapons help, the Gatling gun, paintbrush, sniper and dualies - quite specialised.

Just lost an entire pay grade in about twenty minutes!

Of course I could be just playing terribly too!

3 sub abilites ALMOST equals a main, maybe 90-something percent of a main iirc

so mains are still very important and are what you base everything around
There are unique abilites that dont stack and are only available as a main (ninja squid, thermal ink, etc) as opposed to stat boosters that are available as subs and stack(ink saver, run/swim speed boosts, etc)

My understanding from having read around is that your primary ability slot is worth slightly more than three of the secondary slots. I believe that after 6 (3 secondary + 3 secondary, 1 primary + 3 secondary or 2 primary) you start to get diminishing returns.

Is the game offline? Everything tests out fine but it keeps saying I'm offline in game o_O

Edit: got it going after rebooting the switch that was weird. Guess I used sleep mode a bit too much
