Destiny 2 without PvP, would it be worth it?

Yes yes yes. The revamped patrol makes it worth it alone. Events in patrol now have heroic versions for better loot. Actual NPCs out in the field that you give tokens too. That you earn through patrol to get more loot. Story apparently is around 80 missions. In game lore etc. Gonna be a lot better experience then it was in d1.

Wait what the fuck? Are you counting patrol mission types? If there's actually 80 missions (even if it included strikes and nightfall variants), that's a ton of content.

My friend mever touched PvP and she had probably 300+ hours.

I played and love both, IMO PvP in it is the best in this generation for me (or equal to Halo 5).

I'm probably never going to play Destiny 2 PvP.

Is it worth it? Depends on how robust the PvE offerings are in the game. If it is in-line with launch Destiny 1 when it comes to content the answer will be a "Hell No" so I would wait for reviews.

Destiny 1 at launch was an anemic game that had you playing through the same few levels over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

It featured lame scenarios and bulletsponge bosses that took a collective 200+ magazines worth of damage to take down while being able to take you out in 4-7 hits.

Some people like that type of experience but I thought it was a waste of money and most especially time back when it first came out. We'll see how Destiny 2 fares at launch.

Destiny 1's PVP was the least fun mode to play so if they took it out and loaded more PvE content on there instead then it would be a more appealing package to me.

I believe it counts adventures and maybe lost sectors as well. But yeah the campaign is a lot bigger this time around.

It's from the edge article.
Bungie are quoted as saying there are over 80 PvE activities and missions in the game, that are each “substantial in length, challenge, story and reward.”

Destiny had a lot of pvp maps and pvp could be a big part of the game. But if you didn't want to play the pvp you could mostly get away with it. A few weapons could only be obtained by entering the pvp arenas to complete quests.

Since the new destiny 2 pvp is a 4v4 sweatfest instead of the nice casual social 6v6 in the previous game, I suspect I may end up playing more pve than pvp this time around. The nice thing is destiny 2 is making it easier to group up for Raids which means it will be much easier to get into one without having to go to external sites.

I PvP'd alot in D1, but you can definately get away with never touching it.

That said, should one ever decide to PvP, wait for the Iron Banner events.

In some MMORPGs I know, gear specs are divided into PvP and PvE.

If you aim to get the PvE gear sets, you only need to do PvE, and vice versa. Of course, you can aim to get them all too.

From my short observasion, it seems that there's no such thing as PvP and PvE gears in Destiny 2. Is that right?
AFAIK dailies and weeklies with good rewards tend to be spread across both content.

I clocked a lot of hours into Destiny 1 and expansions, I never once played PvP. I wouldn't bat an eyelid to see it go, but I know a lot of people that dig it, so I'm fine with them devoting resources to it.

I'm of a similar mind with games like Uncharted 4. I didn't play its MP, and its non-inclusion would not have swayed my purchase decision one iota, but there are lots of people that enjoy it, so i'm fine with the devs spending resources on it.

PVP was like 1/5 of my playtime in the first game, largely in part because the PvP went downhill after the first couple months but I'd still buy it if it didn't have PVP.

PvP isn't my forte but i recommend trying it out now and again in Destiny. you'll eventually get bored with PvE and want a little diversion unless you plan to clock in under 80-100 hrs

I only played pvp during Iron Banner for the gear. All the rest of my time was spent on pve content, so yeah Destiny is worth it without pvp.

First, let me explain why I won't bother with pvp in Destiny 2:

- I play with a controller on PC
- It's peer to peer connection
- I live in Asia, combine it with the point above
- I'm not a huge fan of pvp multiplayer in the first place

Co-op looting RPG is one of my favorite genre, ranging from mmorpg like WoW to the recent The Division where I've spent hundreds of hours. I look forward to Destiny 2 mainly due to its PvE aspect. I love loot and doing various missions to upgrade my gear to tackle the ultimate PvE content in the game. But without any desire to take part in PvP content, would I make a good purchase?

Anyone else going to do the same thing?

I've played Destiny for over 600 hours without going to the PVP side, apart from few sparrow races during the holiday events. It offers enough content for PVE players, but the emphasis on PVP can get infuriating when there's more events on that side, and the game balancing clearly favors it as well.
EDIT: Plus, you can't complete all exotic weapon quests, since some of them involve PVP.

That being said, I'm not going to buy Destiny 2 at launch, maybe when the first big year two expansion hits, since I don't like how they've changed the gameplay mechanics and limited usable weapon types for PVP purposes.

Go nuts, pretty much my three years with destiny 1 was purely PvE.

Only times I enjoyed PvP was playing with Destiny Community Members.

Exactly in the same boat as you OP, but do we know how much content we can expect at launch ? Wasn't Destiny criticized a lot because of that ? I'm afraid it'll be super repetitive with the same few missions or segments you do over and over again.

It's also really hard to tell from the beta because it's basically non existant but there really is loot in the game right ? How often, like can regular ennemies drop loot or it's always on bosses or at the end of a mission as a reward ?

I'll occasionally play PvP but it won't be anywhere near as much as early D1. I barely played PvP in the end of year 2 once SBMM went insane. But I was still on Destiny all of the time doing PvE things.

I was an EXTREMELY sweaty PvPer but the main reason to get destiny is for PvE.

Huh.

For some reason I thought GAF was huge on the Destiny PVP feature, it's kinda surprising to read that many didn't play / like it.

That's one of the reasons for why I'm waiting until the equivalent of TTK arrives. The other is, that it's unacceptable for me to pay 140€ for all the content up to that point, if it's priced the same way as before. I'd rather wait a year, and buy them all for 60€.

That's a good suggestion, but then I remember that Anthem is coming in 2018. I'd like to focus my loot shooters RPG in that game next year.

From some of the posts here, it seems that Destiny 2 will not be lacking in PvE content at launch. I'll probably won't pre-order and see if that's true or not.

The only reason I play is PvE. PvP can be fun, but I'd much rather have Bungie dropping it and just make more awesome PvE content.

One of the best parts about D1 was the ability to chill in PvE and then go to PvP if you needed the adrenaline rush of competitive multiplayer.

So yes it wouldn't be the same game for me without the pvp.

Nah if it had no pvp i prob wouldnt get it. PVE is fun but i like switching to pvp after a while to change the pace of things

Absolutely.

I rarely played PvP in the game myself. I wanted to eventually do a Trials run but never could get enough RL friends to play at the same time.

I played a few hundred hours of Destiny and probably only 5% of them was spent in PvP events, so yeah, doable.

But some weapons can only be obtained through pvp, so I wouldn't rule out out completely if I were you.

I don't personally know anyone who plays Destiny for the PVP, myself included. So yeah, I think it would be a better game without it. Loot would matter more, for one.

If I remember correctly, back around a year after Destiny launched, something like 70% of all time in game was spent in co-op activities. I'm sure that ratio has declined as Bungie failed to add many new areas to the game and continued balancing towards PVP, but I mean, I mostly played PVE and I got a thousand hours out of the first game, and Destiny 2's supposed to be a lot better at content.

You don't need pvp to enjoy Destiny. Pvp is kind of its own separate thing as far as loot is concerned. You'll miss out on unique weapons and armors, but those tend to have traits that are mostly useful for pvp.

Destiny has a little something for all types of players. You don't have to participate in all of the offerings, but it's there if you want it. A lot of people seem to think you have to interact with everything that a game includes, but just play the content you like. There's plenty of stuff in Destiny for you regardless of your interests.

I played Destiny over 700 hours and mainly for PvE. IMO Bungie made many changes including weapon tuning with PvP in mind that ruined things or were unnecessary for PvE. I wish they could actually tune the two separately, basically have two separate games.

Like probably half the player base!

A shit ton of people who want a fun and competitive environment and want a change of pace from hitting brain dead mobs all day?

As someone who played Destiny alone and felt bored of the campaign missions, Crucible was a fun MP for me, even had more fun with it than BF1.

So yeah, me?

I was big purposefully facetious, obviously. Of course I know it's populated. I just never hear it talked about here or by anybody else I know who plays.

That would make zero sense since the coolest thing about destiny is the shared gear between all modes. And like weapon balance matters in PvP a lot more than in the PvE where you just basically exploit the AI.

For me the coolest thing is PvE and more specifically raids. I get weapon balance matters in PvP, that's why I wish they could tune weapons for PvP and not necessarily have those changes effect PvE. I felt like at times they screwed up PvE chasing balance in PvP.

2500 hours plus later and I couldn't give a damn about destiny's PvP, it's fun with friends that's about it, it's no where as close to any other e-sports that is currently out on PC.

The PvE content is pretty solid for D1 (post taken king expansion pack) and the beauty of the game is to finish the raid.

Most changes are only felt in PvP, where taking out someone the fastest matters. Assault rifles may have sucked in PvP but in PvE they still served their purpose just fine.

What I'm saying is that the balance changes have 10x the impact in PvP than in PvE so it has to go this way instead of the other.
