Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

Are you sure? People in the iPhone it said it changes year to year with which one is like that.
All Verizon's phone come unlocked because that is the agreement they made when they moved to LTE. The Verizon iPhone is generally the phone that will work on all carriers because it requires both LTE and CDMA technology.

For example, T-Mobile iPhones may be a different version depending on the model and may not work on Sprint/Verzion but will work on AT&T

The simplest explanation is just that it happened to not work. Like, yes, there are other reasons that error can appear - but they all would require a level of incompetency from Apple that isn't in line with how ridiculously rehearsed and scripted these demos are.
Did he swap the phone with the one that worked, or did he enter the passcode? I didn't quite catch what happened. If he swapped the phone, maybe his face just wasn't registered on the demo unit he approached first.

Nope. If you do Touch ID wrong just once, then you get "Try again." If you keep doing it several times with a finger that's not registered, you get "Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID", just like that demo. The restart message specifically says "Touch ID requires your passcode after your iPhone restarts." Just tested and confirmed using my 6S Plus with the iOS 11 GM.

This would only be possible if no one had face-unlocked the demo phone in the past 48 hours, or hadn't entered the passcode at all in the past week.

You are correct. I take back my statement.
I tried it 3 times on my phone to check and got the passcode screen. Trying again 3 more times brings up that message.

And now I do believe it was a Face ID error.
There's no way the phones hadn't been touched for two days.
Plus the phone would have gone straight to the passcode screen when he looked at it. Instead it held for a bit while it tried to unlock before finally going back to the passcode.

Thank goodness for custom launchers. I expect Nova Launcher to have similar gestures within a month lol.
It cant be that great. Multitasking is in the system, not in the launcher (I guess?). And as I said, in android you need a back button as well, so we are kind of stuck with the nav bar, right? There is no way to have the same implementation. Ofc Google can have something better at some point.

They really do have something for everybody - the lineup is pretty great. That said, I would get rid of the 6s and 6s Plus variants entirely. There are too many options, IMO. But I suppose it doesn't really seem to hinder their supply chain or their profits. But every year Apple seems to get more and more like Newton-era Apple where they had a bajillion devices overlapping and competing with each other.

I don't have an iPhone yet but would probably choose the 8 plus over the iphone x. Dont have an ugly cut out up top and still have a home button.

Though I'll wait to see the pixel 2xl first to decide what to do.

Which iPhone seems to be worth it?

I am upgrading from 6s+.

I am looking at the 8 4.5".

Does the X worth $400 more?

Personally I don't think it's worth going from the 6S+ to anything other than an X. The 6S is still a pretty feature full phone and it works well. Arguably isn't worth paying the premium to go up to that either.

So how much are carriers charging for Apple Watch cellular service? Can't seem to find any info on that. I'm assuming the same price as adding on a cellular iPad?

I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see an iPhone SE 2 come out sometime in 2018 that just has a single 64GB SKU (and a couple of colors) and obviates *all* of the current SE and 6S models.

The fact that they're cutting all iPhone models down to just two storage points shows that they're trying to condense the number of SKUs they've got, I think.

Wouldn't the "Try again" message have displayed a few times first then? Then followed by the "Your passcode is required to enable Face ID"?

There's no need for the "try again" text when it's your face.
It just automatically tries again.

So this is a good clue if someone else is trying to look at your phone lol.

I was looking forward to upgrading since I had this phone for 2 years. Battery has been degrading and Plus size is too big. I want a smaller phone.

I'll take your advice into consideration.

What is the purpose of the iPhone 8, at this point? It seems to me most people would rather save $100 and get an iPhone 7, or spend an extra $200 and get an iPhone X.
I'm on a 6S and am going to 8 (instead of 7) for the following reasons:

- wireless charging
- fast charging
- a11 (i shoot raw mostly these days with halide)
- true tone
- 4k/60

the biggest one here for me is wireless charging bc convenience is pretty high up on my value scale. it's why i bought into homekit with hue bulbs and have a nest. i want that airpower mat to charge multiple devices at once.

the 6s (and the 7) are pretty great and if you can live without those things, then by all means save your money.

Really happy with the Apple TV 4K. Great to see that films you already have will be upgraded for free to the 4K version.

Also, I wonder digital copies of films that come with 4K blu-rays, will they be iTunes only from now on instead of UltraViolet? I hope so.

I'm in the same camp here. Biggest problem with my 6S is the battery is not what it used to be. Going to try and get it replaced under AppleCare I think.

The iPhone X is not quite the big leap I wanted and the color selection isn't to my tastes but I'll probably upgrade to it.

Haha, possibly. It might say "try again" because it couldn't register at a certain angle.

Just don't have enough information to be 100% sure either way right now I think.

i'm on a 7 Plus 256GB and just coming to the end of my first year on the iphone upgrade plan and realizing that it is not, in fact, super compelling to upgrade your phone every single year lmao

No.

Had the Face-ID failed, you would have seen the screen shake as feedback that the phone failed to read your face, just as it does when it fails to read your fingerprint. Also, if the passcode hasn't been used in the last six days, and TouchID (and by extension FaceID) hasn't been used for more than 8 hours (likely after a full night of sleep and leaving the demo units on stage for their mark), the passcode is required again.

Here it's a 350 euro difference. It's pretty significant.

The 8 Plus on the other hand it's weird since it's closer to the X price wise.

I'm curious what the battery life is like on the new watches if you don't use cellular. And if you disable/don't use cellular on the cellular version is the battery life the same as the non-cellular version.

How fast is wireless charging at this point? I can't imagine a scenario where I'd prefer a slow wireless charge over a fast USB charge.
