Apple September Event 2017 |OT| A Top-Notch Keynote

The wireless charging isn't as huge for me as I frequently use the phone plugged in at home when it's low.

Yeah, it really depends on the person. I'm just imagining a scenario where I can have Qi mats all over my house. One on a kitchen counter. One on a living room side table. One on my nightstand. Etc. It's lazy, but convenient and will keep my phone continuously charged.

Still need to check out how big an upgrade the A11 is vs the A10 but honestly don't see a reason to go for the 8+ over the 7+ (Used or refunded of course)

Unless you really like wireless charging, and I guess 4k60 ain't bad neither :P

There's no need for the "try again" text when it's your face.
It just automatically tries again.

So this is a good clue if someone else is trying to look at your phone lol.

And we finally have a likely and plausible answer. During setup, the phone had its Face ID recognition activated, but if Craig's face was the only one registered, it would log that as a failed attempt to unlock. If it happened enough times, which it seems likely to happen if Face ID scans whenever the phone is raised, it would passcode lock.

So "someone screwed up during the stage setup" seems more likely than "it didn't work", at this point. I mean, there's a reason that they always have more than one device on stage during those demos at any given moment. And this bears that out.

Thought I'd ask here: will iPhone 6s prices drop? I'm considering getting one as a present for family but £450 is pretty damn steep. I don't particularly want to go used if I don't have to.

Just like the headphone jack right?

People think Touch ID could come back because of the barrage of rumors in the past months about Apple trying and getting close to solving Touch ID through the front screen glass.

It's reasonable that some people think they tried and could not, so perhaps it needs more time and will reappear sometime.
There were no such rumors with the headphone jack, only that it would be gone. Period.

The idea of paying for LTE on the Apple Watch, something which would get so little use, is not something I see myself accepting anytime in the near future

$70 extra MSRP plus $120/year for Watch LTE service sounds crazy to me. I'm kinda glad they did it though since there are so many people that refused to take the product seriously if it couldn't operate in the absence of an iPhone.

I think it's an important feature for people that value the Apple Watch as a fitness accessory. Having to strap a giant-ass cell-phone to your arm just to go on a jog was kinda silly.

They would never go backwards after calling out how much more accurate Face ID supposedly is compared to Touch ID though. As for bringing it back to go alongside Face ID. Why go through that extra work and R&D to solve the problem if you already found a "better" alternative? Unless Face ID massively fails, I just don't see it.

If you think about it, the most significant change in the iPhone lineup from the 6, 6s, 7 and 8 is the removal of the 3.5mm. Things such as 3D touch and wireless charging are more of a novelty factor that aren't going to register in most people's minds. So when someone talks about what - if any - price drops we'll see for past models, I doubt we'll see much movement; there isn't much to really differentiate the models.

The X is the most distinct change since the iPhone 5, simply because of the screen size.

Considering each mat will probabpy run $150ish, that's going to get real expensive.

Yeah, the fact that they went out of their way to say all that means likely no.
I guess all those rumors were baseless.

Really happy with the Apple TV 4K. Great to see that films you already have will be upgraded for free to the 4K version.

Also, I wonder digital copies of films that come with 4K blu-rays, will they be iTunes only from now on instead of UltraViolet? I hope so.
For me, this was the bombshell of the event. Now if only they would upgrade SD for free too..., I'm so annoyed by having two copies of Scott Pilgrim in my iTunes library.

What's worse is that if you want the steel model, you have no option. I'd gladly go with the no LTE model, to me it would be a better choice:
- I'm not with Bell or Tellus (here in Canada) and I'm not switching because of this, lol.
- I almost never have just the watch on me with Phone out of reach
- I don't like that bloody red dot

Yet, I have to pay extra.

I guess the X is rightfully the star of the show but is the 8 the weakest update ever? I think there's less new features in the 8 then a typical "S" refresh and they want with the new number. Not sure why it's not 7S? I guess marketing?

X is too expensive and I was thinking of getting the 8 but maybe just save $100 and get a 7??

Hell yeah, the whole HD = 4K is huge.
VUDU has to respond.

Wonder Woman in 4K HDR for $20 on iTunes vs $30 on VUDU does not look good.

I can't believe they actually demo'ed someone placing a voice call on the Apple Watch......a feature that the watch has had since the very first version.

yo anyone else notice iPhone 8 base pricing is up $50 from the iPhone 7? Totally didn't realize that at first and instead went "oh iPhone 8 at $700 seems ok compared to the $1k of the iphone x"

That wasn't the point.
This time it was with no phone that the watch was wirelessly connected to.

You don't need to waste time with a demo if the only twist is "They weren't tethered to their phone!!!!!111"

Nobody in their right mind really wants to conduct phone calls on their wrist watch, so I'm not sure what the value in the demo really is. I could understand if it was a more interesting or exciting feature.

When someone calls, it's a nice option to answer it on the watch, rather than going to a different room to find the phone tbh. It's not much different than talking into the phone using its speakerphone function. I do agree however that LTE on the watch is more useful for its internet connectivity.

Apple Watch 3 actually seems useful with the persistent heart rate monitoring and LTE. Allows you to leave phone behind and minimize distractions while still being available if needed, and also is perfect for running or going to the beach.

I still don't want to wear one day to day though, and be an Apple Watch person :/
