Japan has done a good job of maintaining the status quo.
It is a modern phenomenon wanting the entire world to blend together into some weird multicultural blob.
Countries have built big Castles and massive walls just to protect themselves from being taken over by other nations. The idea of preservation predates modern Republicans.

I explained near the top of the last page why Canada watches your elections so much, and I guess it's also true for many of your other trading partners.
Some of your politics affect other countries more then even your own population.
Like Donald with the "trade deficit" talk. Many other countries don't consume as much as the US consumes of everything. So right now everything regarding trade and tariffs affect those countries economies and population as well.
Thankfully most countries have seen now,that relying mainly on the US and China isn't going to end well for them, and are starting to make other deals with other countries to diversify.
The US has the privilege right now to act insular and only look out for itself, but you really should be looking at what other countries are doing in order to be ahead of the curve.

That's because the establishment wing of the Democrats (Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, etc) does not want to cede any power or victory to the Progressive upstarts within the party, so the DNC is going to pick someone who represents DNC (establishment) interests.
Progressives would be lucky if Bernie won the primary, but it's probably gonna be someone like Biden or Hillary.

Which is particularly damning when it comes to running against Trump, because Trump now has the double advantage of being the most experienced yet non-conformist / establishment. I feel by what I read online, that a conformist or conservative in the literal sense (rather than as a descriptor for the political right) such as Biden has almost no chance against Trump, as long as Trump does not upset moderate right wing voters too much (which he does not seem to do right now). Sanders vs. Trump, I feel, would be a much more interesting debate and much more open competition.

The Electoral College is a non democratic system and should never have existed. Hillary got more votes than Trump but lost. Romney got more % votes than Trump but he lost and Trump won. The system needs to be thrown out.

If the US changed to the popular vote the president would be decided by NY and California 99% of the time. The candidates would only campaign in those 2 states and win based on what they promise those 2 states.
How could a small state like Maine or Rhode Isand ever hope to get a voice in the system? It would serve the smallest part of the country, with the largest population.
That seems like the exact opposite you would want to do with a country as wide as the US.
