The performance comparison between the 2 most relevant video game consoles is legitimately of great interest to professional video game journalists. They don't control that your feelings get hurt by them informing the general public about the difference between the products that will be available to purchase. You do.

Except there is nothing to inform. It's just speculation based on dodgy leaks. There are no actual differences to report here, so no informing.

Except that only reliable sources understood that 18CU and GDDR5 ram would always beat 12CU units with DDR3 regardless of ESRAM, no secret sauce or wizardry could make up for that, there were never any rumors that Xbox One had 20CU units and GDDR6, don't get it twisted because that's a horse of a different color.

This is verifiably a leak from AMD testing data. It's not "Klee" or "Pookie" or "Jayjay" saying they have the spec sheets and console A is exactly 10% more powerful than console B, like has been repeated for months on this forum without you going to war against the posters the same way you are against unanimously credible journalists who are doing their job. You would have every right to do so if you were bringing more credible information. But to whine and justify your whining by blaming their work is a sign of hurt feelings.

It's clickbait and they shouldn't publish it. Do an analysis when the specs are released in full in a few months. if you think I'm crying because I'm a Sony bot think again.

You're right that they should have the journalistic rigor to specify all the caveats and assumptions that their analysis relies on. It appears that they have, if you watch the video. They claim to have also done the source vetting that good journalism requires. I say they have trumped Klee and Pookie's level of diligence so far but I respect that you disagree.

When you mention the compatibility speed modes, it really does put a damper on the re-purposing angle. Mainly because I highly doubt Sony would want PC GPUs that can natively play PS4 games on them (even if AMD removed the feature by default, hackers would just re-enable it).

Sony might still have some surprises in terms of their SSD solution or maybe even some 3D-Xpoint style cache (either as fast SSD or persistent RAM; this is still mainly me fantasizing about the possibility, but still). They might upclock the CPU, maybe doing some slight tuning with the GPU side. Maybe they'll increase the RAM amount or go with 20Gbps chips (dunno if Samsung are even in pre-production with those however).

But the fact those Tweets and the Github info were removed as fast as they were, just feels like a soft confirmation imho. If Sony's reveal event puts out any specs roughly in line with the deleted data, then it aught to be time to accept things for what they likely may be. FWIW though, we still don't know too much on Lockhart and I doubt some of that possible Lockhart testing data (like the bandwidth) is realistic for where they're positioning that system. And MS still needs to clarify a lot in terms of XSEX too.

If these specs are at all true (for the Series X), then my guess at the price being 599 makes sense. I really think the Series X console will be 599, and I hope it is. I'm tired of price holding back true generational power and gaming technology. The PS5 might very well be 399, which is fine. Though I still feel that it might be 499, but time will tell. People have roughly a year to save 599 (if Series X is really that price), which is more than reasonable if you ask me. If you can't save from now to afford that, then you might have bigger, more important issues than gaming.

And I guess this is where Lockhart fits in perfectly. If they can get Lockhart at around 350 or even 299 (more unlikely), then the jump into next-gen (even for casuals) is going to be super accessible.

Agreed. Someone must have dropped the ball at AMD with the Github dump and ran to correct their mistake after the leak. AMD will most likely invest in a secure proprietary source control system for the testers after this. As for the XSX, I've always thought that for Phil to only have the words "new benchmark for performance, speed, compatibility" to say about his new console on the game awards stage reveals something. Performance is the one area where Microsoft is confident not to be beaten this time around and they may have evidence supporting this. I would think the same if Cerny had said only those words about the PS5 in his Wired articles but he did not. Not long until the reveal events now.

Because they were used by MS to makes the weaker console looks better than actually it is and to spread the "secret sauce" talk where the 1.84TFs vs 1.31TFs didn't means games will be better on PS4.

They too made a lot of early comparisons (biased) to make the games on XB1 looks better than on PS4... some cases get a big backslash like the Battlefield 4 where they claimed the XB1 version being better looking until they retracted saying it was a issue in their capture issues that was making the PS4 version image looks bad.

Sure they have. Last gen, almost all multiplats looked better on 360. ,And since X came out, most multiplats look better again.

As for first party MS and Sony games, it's hit and miss for each gen. Some good ones and some bad ones. And each company has shut down studios to boot when it gets really bad.

Each side will cherry pick when it's the right time.

Xbox gamers tout better looking games during the 360 era, since almost all of them looked better. PS gamers shut their mouths.

PS gamers tout better games looking games during the PS4/Xbox One OG years. Xbox gamers shut their mouths.

Xbox gamers tout better looking games during the PS4 Pro/X years.... although all the graphics threads seemed to die down a lot compared to above. PS gamers shut their mouths.

As for 2020, the side with the better looking games and DF nitpicking will claim supreme again. And the loser will sit their for years zipped up.

This doesn't even have to involve graphics. Any time there's a console war topic worth arguing about, the winner laughs, the loser pouts.

360 RRoD. PS gamers laugh and bring it up.

PS3 internet hack debacle. XBox gamers laugh and bring it up

MS charges money for Gold, when PS3 MP was free. PS gamers laugh

Sony decides to copy them and charge money for PS4 MP gaming with PS+ fees. Xbox gamers laugh

They did talk about ps5 especially around the Wired article time and its power. But again, DF doesn't like to report on anything unless they can get some sort of confirmation. If they can't confirm it this is exactly why they might not of made a video.

Time will tell.

Even then, their rethoric was always that the PS4 was only "slightly" more powerful when in the 360/PS3 era they went ham with a double digit resolution difference.

They are honestly all over the place in their reporting but have some tendencies to favour some brands. Trash ports for the switch included.
 
Guys, use logic. If that would be true and the difference would be 3 TF between PS5 and S SeX, Ms would know it and would scream from every corner about Power Crown, instead of most powerfull xbox PR bullshit.

The gaming market is not that big. Both of them know almost exactly what the other one is doing unless they are hiding information from third party devs.

Im honestly suprised we have no concrete leaks/dokumentations for the consoles from some third party dev. Those github test are bottom tier news when the actual devkits are out in the wild.

Microsoft sent PR images with xbone being the most powerfull console ever before 2013, so no they don't need it. A 3 TF difference is big enough so they would know about it, if it would be true (which it is not)

A. I don't ever recall those images but I could be wrong. B. Nobody knows if its true or not yet. C. Everything about the original Xbox One Pitch was a disaster. They won't follow the same plan.
