My first online shooter addiction was Red Faction on PC. The female characters could fit through the columns on the Warlords map more reliably than the male ones. Loved that game so much. Client-side hit detection was a revelation after playing Unreal Tournament on dial-up with 200ms ping.

Yep. This doesn't make much sense. They gave me Journey and Flower for free on PS4, so it's possible this might be a free upgrade to PS4 owners of bloodborne.

However, this would effectively take away marketing cycles and hype away from their full demon souls remake. it makes zero sense to launch the ps5 with both bloodborne and demon souls.

i have no idea whats going on over at sony. if only they would just do their conference so at least we know which direction they are headed in. right now, its just one bad news and more fud after another.

EDIT: i just realized something. i heard a rumor that sony was trying to make up for the delay. what if they are gonna be giving away the BB remaster as part of their PS+ lineup for launch.

I doubt very much they really believe it themselves. I think they just want fence-sitters and casual passersby to believe it and pass it on.
That's why it will always be brought back up as often as possible, no matter how much they are corrected or shown to be misleading or wrong.
The ends justify the means.
The "ends" they want is more sales for the console brand that makes up a big part of their identity, to help win some competitive "war". With the amount of obsession and emotion shown, there's just no way people like this have any kind of balanced and healthy life away from the internet. No matter how hard they try to disguise it or laugh it off.
The "means" employed to help a brand they've centred their entire persona around is in convincing the majority of people that don't look too closely or question anything that the biggest rival is somehow flawed or has dropped the ball.
Sometimes even straight up paid for "marketing" works this way. A lot of the time it's simply what I can only perceive to be people with some kind of cognitive or developmental issues attaching themselves to some brand/ideology/etc and getting far too emotionally invested to the point it starts to become part of their identity.
The internet and social media are like megaphones for these types of people.
If you met one in real life you'd feel more pity and a need to keep your distance rather than react and reply as we tend to do online.

the era threads on the ps5 and xbox are a big indicator of how much more attention the ps5 gets. that said, i dont know if its over. MS despite only selling less than 50 million units compared to 110+ PS4s, still has around 9 billion in digital revenue compared to 12 billion in revenue psn generates. their revenue should be almost 40% that of the ps4 going by consoles sold, but they are basically at around 75%. this indicates a very active and healthy userbase despite the somewhat poor sales of the console.

And with the xbox series x almost certain to sell more consoles than the xbox one, those numbers are sure to go up.

Surely, like the need for OtherOS and PS2 Linux, if the hardware opens up a change in how things can be done, then equipment availability beyond official devkits is essential to let the world learn. And specifically for Epic, they will be releasing Engine tech in nanite/lumens that requires the developer to be a PS5 developer with a devkit to see working at full fidelity making its own store offering of the tech inferior to PS5, which sort of leads to thinking that Sony, AMD and Epic have a solution to that problem arriving in parallel to PS5 and UE5.

If Sony released the devkit patented unit in the PC space at £900 - without the ability to play PS5 games - would it be a disruptive box if it ran windows or Linux with Epic's store preinstalled?

But yes, the variable frequency is the key part of PS5's performance gains... along with the IO is the game changer that so many devs are raving about .This is why PS5 will very much always be performing at it's theoretical limit, leveling out the peaks and pushing right up there constantly at the limits!

Everyone expected the same timeline as PS4.

Instead, we got a [very late] tech talk from Mark Cerny which, while very in-depth and interesting, failed to follow up on its promise because it didn't show what the hardware could do in action. Terrible marketing decision.

Then, we all expect "ok, maybe they'll show in May or something"....never comes

They finally announce a June 4th date and gets derailed for political BS marketing/business decisions. I have to give them a LOT of credit for not having hardly any leaks at all though. I think the only legitimate leaks we had were some murmors of how fast the SSD was. But we've essentially heard very little about the games.

If PS5 isn't shown this coming week I'm going to be extremely disappointed. Releasing a date and then days later delaying it is beyond ridiculous. They've already done this garbage multiple times with games like TLOU2. Why can't Sony just stick to a date?

I am sure switching this time around will be a lot harder for most.
Going from ps3 to ps4 was easy as most had not tapped into digital and bought mostly in brick and morter.

This time around with most people buying digital and wanting to keep their backlog they will be staying in their ecosystem.
This would be a very expensive switch not to mention all of us hope to run our current games faster with higher rez. No one wants to buy the same game again .

At best people will buy the competition down the line . But since xbox is pretty much turning into steam people who want to enjoy halo will have the chance to do so without the console.

Microsoft is in the software and service business. They dont care for haedware. It cost them nothing as they just offset the loss with their service income.

To be fair in both cases (Covid, BLM) Sony have gone above and beyond in their response. As much has these delays have been hard as a gamer, I'm glad they did the right thing.

As for Sony keeping a lid on leaks....It has been made infinitely easier being able to completely control things via a pre-recorded reveal and even having a big leaker/teaser (Shinhobi) seemingly under NDA!

Many other companies stood back to pay respects to the racism protests, but at least they already set a new date for their presentations. What about Future Games Show on Saturday 13th, wouldn't Quantum Error appear? And EA Play on Tuesday 16th, what if they have a next gen project for both consoles, would it be shown just for XSX because Sony has nothing yet?

Get barlog out there. get ted price. bring back kojima to do another teaser trailer. have bruce straley show up as the surprise lead of their new san diego studio. they have done a great job showcasing the directors by giving them the limelight. now its time to set them free on the biggest stage. just a couple of words is probably enough, but the set up is very important.

thats a good point. putting their games on pc just gives those hardcore gamers more options when the entire point of console gaming is to sucker them into investing in your eco system. this is so shortsighted i cant believe MS doesnt see how this is hurting them with the consumer block that spends the most amount of money on games.

and yeah while MS has fuck all coming out this year (Well at least until halo comes out at the very end of the gen), i think MS is going to show 5-6 killer next gen exclusives in july. 4 at the very least. they wont be ready at launch, but i think they should be ready for a trailer a la hellblade 2 and some might even have a gameplay demo. Fable should definitely have a bigger trailer than hellblade 2 since that team is huge and the game has been in dev for well over a year and a half. rare should have something cooking. initiative should have something big to show. coalition was supposedly working on something on the side as well.

like i said, the games wont be ready for this year, but when people see some of these amazing next gen games next to cross gen shit ubisoft, activitision and ea are gonna shove down our throat for the next two years, they are going to rethink before just settling on the ps5. i think there will be a lot of gamers who buy both consoles instead of investing in PCs because of all the custom i/o and ssd enhancements that wont come to PC for at least a couple of years.

there are amazing third party games dont get me wrong. i loved RE2 and Sekiro, but they dont scratch that story itch. the production values are top notch, but you dont really care about the characters. witcher 3 and rdr2 are the only games that can rival sony exclusives, but they are basically once in a gen games. and the only third party games i have given my goty this gen.

there are amazing third party games dont get me wrong. i loved RE2 and Sekiro, but they dont scratch that story itch. the production values are top notch, but you dont really care about the characters. witcher 3 and rdr2 are the only games that can rival sony exclusives, but they are basically once in a gen games. and the only third party games i have given my goty this gen.

I truly hope microsoft gwts their shit together and will focus on first party titles.
Too much money spent in the past on third party online shit.

If both will do good and people will buy forst party and will get used to good quality titles they wont want to go back to cocksoft and ea and shit for the same old crap. That will force them to do better too.

I don't really think it's the right thing (morally). They did both for business decisions, plain and simple.

yeah, its a straight up business decision. i hate that man got murdered and i hate the cops more than anyone, but this just reeks of virtue signalling. all they had to do was say, hey, we feel uncomfortable celebrating the ps5 on the day of this guy's memorial service so out of respect, we are delaying it by 24 hours. simple. oh and we are donating a few million to his family. there is nothing more to be done here. they are a corporation that makes fucking video games. americans need to stop looking up at Jeff bezos, mark zuckerberg and kaz hirai to solve all their problems.

every other company that delayed it announced the new date. sony chose to do what they have been doing this entire year. guarding the ps5 like a crazed mother of a newborn. i wouldnt be surprised if they werent ready for june 4th and are using this to delay it until july.

i watched in horror when shawn layden once said that the doesnt make online shooters because he doesnt want to take the spotlight from activision and other third party studios that make shooters. i was like wtf are you talking about? Your ONLY job is to set the fucking standard because unlike third party publishers, you arent tied to fiscal year results and you can afford to take a loss and show what a game with a proper budget, time for polish and design can do. while everyone was jerking off to cod and battlefield last gen i was playing warhawk, kz2 and mag. All of them were well ahead of their time. especially MAG.

i really hope we see a next gen war game from sony. i look at these awful battlefield campaigns and these cookie cutter cod campaigns (bought cod MW three months ago, too scared to even start the campaign) and wonder if they wouldve better if insomaniac was still making resistance 3 quality campaigns, and the A team at GG was making KZ2 quality campaigns.
