From the hype and how preorders have been going, it worked quite well. We are being impatient for info/details, that's allYou did good enough. Sony is indeed strict as hell. Which is not necessarily working in their favor.

In Norway the biggest retailer has gotten so many PS5 preorders that they cant guarentee one until july-21.
Xboxes you can get anywhere at this moment.
Yup, if they're upgrading the game for the PS5 today is the day to reveal it and maybe give some more details about their upgrade plans for PS4 titles. This should have PS5 upgrade + TLOU factions.
I let you connect the dots as you want
lets hope. I just want the multiplayer, but I can dream of a full PS5 remasterThis should have PS5 upgrade + TLOU factions.
None for me either my store ended up having 12 units and the last seat was taken around 5:00 AM, crazy

Seems like Cerny was really looking years ahead here. From what I understand, MS's solution, which is great, don't quote me wrong, is capped at around 6GB/s (based on earlier reports), and can output 4.8GB/s right now. This means that even after improving their firmware and software, they'll be capped shortly.
Sony's solution caps out at 22GB/s, which means they have more than double the room for improvement over the original 8 to 9GB/s. This is immense, because for sure software and firmware will improve during the next 5 years and we'll continue to see improvements here.
Xbox Series X|S are capped at 3.5GB/s raw physically but having only 2x PCIe 4.0 lanes. I've never seen such a thing personally before. PS5 is using 4x lanes for both internal and external SSD's.
He designed something that gives devs an insane amount of freedom.
You won't really "need more" than what the PS5 offers until we can have games that are 1TB in size probably... just do the math lol
2.4GB/s raw actually.
So is the real purpose on getting expandable storage (besides storing games on it) to play next-gen games off it? I am looking at external 3.1 drives and obviously they're more affordable.
I'd most likely have any games I want to immediately play moved to the main drives, and anything else on the external. Just trying to see the real benefit here.
More and more PS games are perceived as premium, just like that comparison about basic cable and HBO made by Geoff Keghley. Sony knows that and is experimenting accordingly. If game sales numbers remain the same as this gen or get even better, it's green light for that price point.

Nobody wants it or is there a steady stream of supplies?
Wait, did Sony buy Oodle or buy a license? The press releases made it sound like they bought a license. If they bought the actual tech, that's massive.
This console is showing very early signs of failure.
Turns out that Xbox One X increased in volume by 747% on Amazon tweet was a joke that gaming sites fell for hook, line, and sinker.

Enlighten us!You guys still don't know how the market works, right? Lmao
Its liek having BHP of a car (shaders), and being able to feed it enough fuel for all the shaders is not so easy (caches speed and internal cache bandwidth).
Ps5 will definately feed those CU faster than XSX, the result will be in how the games run in how close they are in real world performance. My guess is they are within 5 %, lets wait and see.
In light of media reports about Jim Ryan saying PS5 is not backwards compatible with PS1, 2 and 3, HipHopGamer's doubling down didn't make sense to me initially; but after pondering over the contradiction and giving the spec sheets of PS4/pro and PS5 another glance over to see what was different about their optical drives, something struck me as peculiar. Look at the optical drives for each system...
PS4/pro
Optical Drive:
- BD x6 CAV
- DVD x8 CAV
PS5
Optical Drive:
- Ultra HD Blu-ray (66G/100G) ~10xCAV
- BD-ROM (25G/50G) ~8x CAV
- BD-R/RE (25G/50G) ~8x CAV
- DVD ~3.2x CLV
Doesn't it seem odd to you that SIE would replace PS4/pro's faster DVD 8x CAV mode with a much slower DVD ~3.2x CLV mode?...
It seems odd to me because PS1 reads CDs at 2x speed in CLV mode only. And on top of that, according to some very old posts by two devs (inpHilltr8r and Falafada (the latter is said to be an SCE dev)) on another forum, PS2 reads DVDs at 2x speed in CLV mode (in CAV mode PS2 reads DVDs at 4x speed). Here's some of what they had to say about PS2's drive...
(note: If you care to read the threads in full, search the following: 'PS3 vs 360 Drive Speed Question', the first result that pops up should be from Beyond3D. If you only care to read the dev posts, jump to pg.4)…
"The PS2 drive can operate in either CAV or CLV mode. CAV is faster, but less stable, and only works on one layer of a dual layer disc. We ran the drive in CLV mode, and I don't want to revisit the amount of time I spent laying out the 8GB of data we crammed onto the disc." -- inpHilltr8r
"From what I remember CLV defaults to minimum CAV speed, meaning you get 2xDVD across the whole disc, instead of only inner layer." -- Falafada
And there's more. What's with the addition of a BD-R/RE ~8x CAV mode for PS5? This also seems odd to me because in the same forum thread a post was made (on pg. 5) by a third dev who in reply to a forum-goer's assumption that PS3's BD drive was CLV, said...
"Nope, we have an 8x BD-R/RE drive that's P-CAV..." -- archie4oz
As I've come to understand, P-CAV is a derivative of CAV that can run in both CLV and CAV modes. The drive spins the disc in CAV mode when reading (or writing) near the inner part of the disc, then switches to CLV mode for the outer part of the disc.
On the surface, it appears PS5's optical drive has modes to read PS1, 2 and 3 discs. For me, this lends credence to HHG's claim. Now here's the conundrum: HHG said PS5 is backwards compatible with PS1, 2 and 3; Ryan said it isn't… or so the media says…
I interpreted Ryan's words differently. Before I get into them, here's the half-decent machine translation of the Q&A I read…
-- In the story, I was surprised that PS4 titles are 99% compatible. By the way, is it compatible with PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles? -- Famitsu
Ryan We have been building devices with a focus on PS5-specific engineering. Among them, PS4 already has 100 million players, so I thought that I would like to play PS4 titles on PS5 as well, so I introduced PS4 compatibility. While achieving that, we focused on incorporating high-speed SSDs and the new controller "DualSense" in parallel. So, unfortunately, compatibility with them has not been achieved. -- Jim Ryan
My interpretation of Ryan: PS4 compatibility is a PS5-specific "device". The high-speed SSD and DualSense are also PS5-specific devices; so unfortunately, PS1, 2 and 3 titles will not be compatible with them (the high-speed SSD and DualSense).
If my interpretation is correct, then HHG will have been proven right about PS1, 2 and 3 backwards compatibility for PS5 working in conjunction with PS Now, and Jim Ryan will have maintained the element of surprise. In any event, we'll find Soon'y enough…
"we are cloud-gaming pioneers, and our vision should become clear as we head toward launch" -- Mark Cerny
You beautiful, faith restoring, bastard. If I had the money i'd gold you. We can only hope that you're correct. BC itself would go some way towards restoring Jim Ryan off my shitlist as well.
Thats from March, the difference was BCpack had a form of oodle textures, now Sony have it as well.
So they both do RDO compression. Whats your point exactly other tah cut and pasting infromation before oodle textures ?
They will both compress textures with lamda around 40. Same shit.
Difference now is only Kraken vs Zlib.
Interesting if anyone missed it.
This console is showing very early signs of failure.
The 700+% was real, ithink it refers to the jump in sales rankings though. It doesn't mean they sold 700% more. The original tweet provided a link, did anyone check its accuracy? Currently:
PS4 Pro 113%Sales rank: 197 (was 420) #8
Some headset: 1,451%Sales rank: 233 (was 3,614)Amazon.com Movers & Shakers: The biggest gainers in Video Games sales rank over the past 24 hours

So I am gonna guess it was real just didn't mean fully what they thought it meant.
(It's just the movers and shakers and doesn't mean much)
He actually sounds like a Kiwi to me. Aussies and Kiwis sound similar, but there are subtle differences in pronunciations. He sounds more Kiwi than Aussie to me.I like the Australian accent but his just irks me. Have no problem listening to King gizzard interviews for example.
If you listen to the SFS tech presentation on youtube it also has a performance cost.
And what everyojne keeps forgetting is there is hardware to blend in that texture when it arrives LATE, its a smoother pop in, but its still pop in.
Was the halo gameplay after the map screen using SFS, as it still looked like pop in to me.
I kept meaning to point this out before, compression ratios are great, but decompression speed for Kraken is really excellent. It's no point having a fantastic compression ratio of the speed of decompression takes a massive hit.

Yeah, Cherno. We have a Kiwi on our team, and he sounds like Cherno. I feel like Cherno sounds more like he's from New Zealand than Australia, but maybe my ear isn't as tuned as I think it is. When I think Australian, I think of someone who sounds more like Daniel Ricciardo. I guess accents vary across the country. You on about Cherno?
Because he's a middle class Melbournite. That accent is one that grates on me as well. Only slightly less annoying than super rich Rose Bay Sydneysider, and Rockhampton shitkicker.
so its morning now and I can check what you are sayingFake benchmarks. Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus are legitimate.
The zero amount of motion blur on these shots is really quite something, given how fast they go by.
