ShopTo are - and always have been - an absolute fucking shambles. I'd like to think the likes of Game, Smyths and Currys are different, but I guess we'll see...

I always get stuff from Shopto. Just depends on when you registred interest, since their PS5 page went up in May/June for people that wanted to put their names in. Then its all first come first serve...exactly the same as everywhere else.

Mine is confirmed for day one, as I registered interest back in June, and reconfirmed my interest 2 weeks ago when they contacted me (and my brother, and my friends; we all got day 1 confirmations).

How is that apologetic? You are looking a one line out of an entire 20 minute video where the video directly says the textures not being lit kills detail and that a lot of the textures are unimaginative. Along with being a cross gen game that isn't scaling well due to the low levels of detail on textures and lighting.

Their page actually went up in January 24th, that's when I preordered mine.

And people say "Sony's lack of communication is becoming an issue"
Sony well show everything when the time comes at their own pace.

They show the Specs, Console and Price at their time,
Not every time Xbox show something PlayStation has to.
I think we need to stop comparing everything to Microsoft.

it all comes down to lighting

I guess you're right.

I don't think we will agree on this, what you underlined sounds to me like just more apologies.

Sony warriors taking one sentence out of a 20 minute video as proof positive of their paranoid delusions?

Shocked I tell you. SHOCKED!

There were so many things wrong with that demo, why spend so much time talking about lighting, but then nothing about geometry, resolution, effects, pop in? That was a goldmine of follow-up videos to talk about all those flaws. Disappointing.

All of that was talked about.

He got bored by the PS5 tech advancements and calls for XBox Series stuff to react to.

Shall we sent him the Dirt 5 gameplay captured on Series S? It’s the only legit stuff we have at hand.
Yeah, it's at 120fps. He's going to say "at such a high framerate (for console), what did you expect? "

Not for as long as lighting. They could have made more videos for sure. Was looking forward to them.

So the argument has went from they were apologetic and didn't call out the bad things, oh wait they did, but they talked about lighting more than the other bad things.

I'm not calling them apologetic, you must be confusing me with someone else.
People expected them to either summarize all, or be equally thorough in all aspects.
Ideally, Alex could have done a summary of everything that's wrong together with John. Could have potentially been even more educational, too.

This is what Cerny said:

This time around and some game code just can't handle it testing has to be done on the title by title basis results are excellent though we recently took a look at the top hundred PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by play time and we're expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch.

Source:

And this is what the PS blog said:

We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.

This sounds to me that almost all games will run the same as they run on PS4. And on a title by title basis there will be some games that have boosted frequency, but if all of them would have the boosted FPS and RES they would say it and not just say „playable“ on PS5.

https://blog.playstation.com/2020/0...ls-of-playstation-5-hardware-technical-specs/

Please show me right now where they said that all games that have been released after July will run boosted.

The PS4 Pro is living proof your wrong buddy.

That's what their tech analysis are for when the product is out.

If you don't agree with the video subject that's fine. But you specifically said the video didn't talk a out resolution, LOD and pop in, which it did.

So exactly what's your point? You wanted more content talking about the bad aspects? Ok that didn't happen. That doesn't somehow change DF perspective on the demo that was shown which was that the lighting, textures, LOD and pop in was bad.

That’s not what I am implying. I am just stating that we have only that capture and nothing from series x.

this is what it is as of now. Maybe tonight we’ll get an info dump from Microsoft, but this is all we have got.

Genuinely curious and I'd like to try and understand how calling something unimaginative is apologetic?
Like I said, we probably wont agree on this.
The whole video is explanations on to of explanations.
Texture can be unimaginative and still look good.

One thing to consider/ask your self... what is the need from DF to make a explanation/apology(imho) video like this for this Flagship game?

Good times!

Do you think you'd do the same from seeing faster loading times (and framerate) on games you'd already played and own?
No... all about new games and new experiences.
I have hard time to going back to games I've already finished.
Always try to buy physical ... and those that I finish I share with my friends and family so don't have big collection of them anymore.
BC is a nice feature but not essential for me.

Where did the video say it can still look good? Bad textures can't be saved by lighting.

The video is 20 minutes saying that the entire lighting system for the game is a bad choice overall, combined with bad LOD, bad pop in and bad image quality.

Instead of saying the lighting is bad and moving on the video went into the dynamics of how the lighting actually works to light textures instead of simply saying it's bad lighting and gave various examples of how bad lighting can make textures appear entirely different.

DF is a tech analysis channel. Its literally what they do. Lighting is a key part of engines. What did you want from them?

Either i have set my expectations way higher than i should or i have bought into the power of these next gen consoles a little bit to much.

I am really unhappy about those load times and it really makes me worry about ps5 ones.

We see what happens in the future but after today i am bummed out.
Calm down, m8, we've already seen how R&C and DS load, at most these underwhelming results will be restricted to unoptimized BC games.

I said it, unimaginative texture can still look good.

Doesnt really answer the rest of the reply.

So if an unimaginative texture can look good what's the difference between a bad texture and unimaginative. Tetxures are created. If it's boring it's not going to look good. That's the point of the texture.

What DF did with Halo was atrocious, you see Kingthrash Kingthrash video on the same game, and

- Animations
- Reflections
- Destruction
- Attention to detail like when the ship is flying
- AI compared to the previous Halo.
- The vegetation that is completely plain and REPETITIVE
- Effects, like the protective shield master uses when in previous games was A LOT BETTER.
- Bombs that emit lights but don't have interaction with the rest of the lighting.
- Bombs explode and there is no signal of the explosion.
- Etc, etc,

He was able to point out everything that makes Halo look bad, to continue to say it was simply the lighting, and waste video without a single 800% zoom, without saying the resolution, yea, they didn't review that shit like they needed to.

- Where is the resolution
- Where is the FPS count
- Where is everything that makes you worthy of the trust that you put in every video you want to confirm you are trustworthy like they did with the RTX 3080.

You can't find the same level of detail when there is something weird going on, on the MS side.

But God forbid Insomniac with the puddles...

Now we are into semantics.
Unimaginative texture can be technically solid and perfectly good looking.

Agreed. Sony will certainly want to dictate the ryhthm of their marketing (both the timing and the message itself) and not feel like they're being dictated to by MS.
