Tag, you're it.
As part of the deal, Joseph received a gaming setup worth over $5,000 and a $33,000 signing bonus. In a press release announcing the deal, the team said that Joseph had been training since he was just six years old.

“It’s a dream come true!” says Joseph Deen, when asked to comment on his new signing. “While many other teams didn’t take me seriously due to my young age, Team 33 scouted me through Fornite games and let me train and learn with them daily.
I couldn’t be happier today to become an official member of the team.”

Team 33 made the signing of Joseph official at the team’s headquarters with one of the celebrity ambassadors, Kaash Paige. The headquarters is located in Hollywood Hills and serves as the team’s main training grounds. It is known as House 33, a property designed for gamers, entrepreneurs, and music artists.
“We are beyond excited to have Joseph on our exclusive Team 33 roster. We have secretly been scouting talent for our roster and games over the last few years and are proud to officially sign Joseph,” says Tyler Gallagher, CEO of Regal Assets and one of the founders of Team 33.
“We made it a point to train him over the past few years because young gamers are the future, and we want to start training them early. He has shown incredible tenacity and commitment to the team over the last two years and has trained almost daily with our team. It has now finally all paid off and is a momentous day for all of us,” Gallagher adds.

5k PC to play Fortnite? Talk about overkill. I got a 2k PC and it can smash almost all games today on highest settings at 60fps.

edit: I suppose it includes a "chair" and all the other over-priced accessories.

Is it me or is e sports a massive bubble?

Honestly? I don’t know. It’s possibly some genres of gaming will die off, but it won’t surprise me to see it going strong in ten years.

I’m still salty at my wife for telling me in 1998 that my idea of having a website where you could watch people play games 24/7 was stupid and no one would ever want something like that.

So is this kid any good or its a PR stunt.

Love how they say hes been training since he was six lol. Wow a whole 2 years of playing videogames.

33K isnt that much and I bet like boy bands in the end all his winnings will go to pay for travel and housing costs etc.. so he wont make any big money while the team owner rakes it in.

The world has truly gone mad.

I can't help but to think about every nurse and patient attendants working their ass off, burning out but never had any sort of salary that is worth their work. But yet we live in this fucked up world where a kid, literally a kid, can make more by playing games ''professionally ''.

In my book, this bullshit goes in the same garbage can as twitch streamer making a living out of it. The worst is, that there is a public for this type of entertainment and they are the very reason why it all exists.

The world is turning upside down metaphorically, figuratively, spiritually, socially, and economically.

How can a kid be a pro gamer lol? Huge difference between the thought process of an adult and a kid.

I don't watch esports honestly, but imagine the people working to get on these teams... only to be replaced by a kid. A kid who hasn't even gone through puberty yet lol. Kid isn't even old enough according to the ESRB to even play the game.

For reasons like this, "pro gaming" will not be taken seriously anytime soon.

I actually do see some value in eSports once it reaches a point where humans have reason to watch it live -- like a robot football league, maybe. But until then, you'll see shit like this.

I think that is more of a marketing move.

Most kids play Fortnite, so having a kid being a pro player/streamer might get more kids to start playing it or being more motivated to keep playing. The "one of us" mentality.

I have a funny thing to tell you, in the UK where I am, fanny means vagina :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I can see how that would've been confusing. I should've just written: A$$

lol, really? That’s hilarious. I can see some britts soliciting ‘Fanny’ in the US and getting quite a surprise.... do you guys still call cigarettes ‘fags’?

Absolutely. The foundation of this kind of entertainment rely on delusion and exaggeration. We can all see through the bullshit but yet, there's this weird, young, ignorant idolatrous crowd that are ready to kneel to these pretentious clown disguised in a shell of an empty and bleak personality.

Yeah sure, not me personally, but I know plenty of people who still do.

Please tell me his parents thoroughly assessed his contract. E-Sports orgs are notoriously predatory.
His parents let a 6 years old play fortnite so often he became really good at it.

They have no judgement, doubt they can even read a contract

Good for him if his parents are ok with it. I don't know if I would let my kids play that many video games a week at that age.

Same reason as normal sports, which to be completely honest I don't understand either.

Hm, potential carpal tunnel versus getting lit up by 250lb. middle linebacker with 4.4 speed. I can understand real sports far more than I can gaming.

I honestly used to think so as well, as I personally have no interest in watching people compete playing video games whether it be an esports tournament or someone on Twitch or YouTube (I'd rather play games myself). But considering that esports has been going since the '90s and seems to keep growing, I think it is here to stay in some form.

I don't get it (or streamers for that matter), but I recognize that there is obviously a market for it.

I don't think getting in form is enough to explain making more money than some countries.

That’s cool for the kid. The last thing eSports needs is a pedo group, but I bet they exist. It’s sad to say, but does this mean anything other than raising red flags. We already had a few bad apples and I’m sure there are plenty of Pedos running around chasing kids in Fortnite and Call of Duty.

It feels like the players often get recycled once they’ve hit a certain age. They move on or retire. All the Halo greats from back in H2 have a retired status somewhere on their wiki. Lol

I wouldn't be surprised to see eSports get even bigger in the future. I know people have laughed at it being even compared to Sports, but if you look at some of the audiences it can bring it online, It is comparable to a stadium full of people. There is a definite interest in it, and kids seem to be more interested in it as well which really helps it grow.

I have personally enjoyed some events. I used to watch Call of Duty eSports a few years ago. Overwatch, too. I don't watch it anymore, but it was fun. I have never enjoyed watching actual Sports. I know I'm not the only one.
