I'm looking at more than this one site's award. As I said the game has won over 200 of them already and most of the reader's choice GOTY awards being among them. Far more than any other game in 2020. Cyberpunk has tons of negative media reviews so not sure what you're going on about there.

Cyberpunk won 20 industry GOTY awards.
TLOU2 won 209 which is almost 5 times as many as the next highest game on the list.

Hilarious. HE-LERRY-US! I remember back in summer running through my mind the chore it's going to be for these absolute weirdos who have this love to hate boner for this game. Since the games release, to sales, to awards, to lasting impression, to still being talked about whatever the case, this game won. Didn't expect otherwise.

Yeah, it's a separate poll. It's not based on their own site's user ratings. That's kind of weird, but I get the reason -- they think those scores were skewed by review bombing (probably so).
My only observation is that the kind of people who hang around metacritic and vote in their polls is probably a weird demographic who care a lot (too much?) about what reviews say.
No disrespect to the game or its fans. It's getting a lot of awards, so there must be something good about it. The game never appealed to me personally -- not because of the SJW stuff, but because of the main character being driven by revenge, the emphasis on violence and brutality, the story being hamfisted, and the fact that I didn't like the gameplay in the first game much.

Reviews are easily skewed. Winning 209 GOTY awards is nothing when those "media outlets" are only averaging around 0.5k in traffic per month.
Some of them are even personal blogs cherry picked by the Game Awards website itself. Fucking embarrassing.

This game is so living rent free in the heads of people who love and hate it. Obvious for those who hate it, but every time TLoU2 wins an award the people who love have it to parade it around so they feel vindicated for their love for the game. It's kinda embarrassing.

Look up on whose websites giving these GOTY for that year, unlike 2020. Almost all of main media website participated in giving BOTW and Witcher 3 their GOTY. Then you look at 2020 and sees a fucking tiny blogs personal GOTY being count on the pedestal.

Factorio is one of the top Steam games of all time. Fully released in 2020 it even beat HL: Alyx, and its a fairly well known game too. Yet it barely has any presence on metacritic.
Same about other Titles released in 2020 like Deep Rock Galactic and Risk of Rain 2, they all made to the top rated games of the year on Steam, ahead of titles like Ori or RE3.
Honestly, reading some of the responses in this thread (as well as some others), if you think X game gaining Y awards on a website, or even some big show, "proves" they're the best stuff out there, just know that there are significant communities who couldn't give two craps about these titles.
