This is going to push people away from the Xbox ecosystem, not bring them to their ecosystem. Complete stupid move from Microsoft. It’s going to push me away from them even more, I’ll still use my PC and might as well sell my Series S and go back to PlayStation. I hope PlayStation doesn’t do this stupid ass move.

Does Gold include Gamepass now? Seems ridiculously high if not. And to think I haven't payed more than $29/year for PS+ since 2013.On 360, back when i had gold I don't remember ever paying full price either, there's always deals at least once a year on these subs.

  • If you’d like to upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate your remaining Gold time will also convert directly to Ultimate (up to 36 months). For example, if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold now, and you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, those 11 months convert to 11 months of Ultimate at no additional cost.
I guess this was plan all along, so basically how to move everyone on GamePass...

Remember when fake xbox insiders would tell us that MS was going to drop xbox gold to play online, any minute now? LOL. My hunch, xbox revenues are collapsing because they've conditioned their audience not to buy software anymore but not enough people are subscribed to game pass yet to make up the difference. Im sure Series S isnt cheap to manufacture and it doesnt help its just sitting on shelves all across Europe.

I think thats why they are still doing the gamepass conversion. They want you in on gamepass which has a higher price per month.

I thought theyd wait until PS5 was like 20 million sold through where as xbox series would be 7 or 8 million before they pulled the plug on xbox and just became a publisher and subscription servicer. However moves like this make me believe they are going to Sabotage it and kill xbox sooner than I originally thought.

It's been said maybe a dozen times, but gamepass, zenimax etc have to refinanced somehow. Big companies are not your friend, nor are they giving stuff away for free.

Strong terms but the overarching logic being that if you're down in the market-share battle as the lowest of the 3 you shouldn't try to milk your loyal consumers even more before the competition makes the move first.......... that would be sound advice to follow except, it's fucking MS. They don't care and have never cared - which is why the division has floundered.

Hard to say what the plan is seeing as Phil is such a liar and flip flopper on basically everything. This is clearly meant to sabotage xbox gold, to what extent the end game is I have no idea.

I was thinking of the gamepass ultimate, but yeah, the other one is 9.99 so I wonder if it's going away or what.

edit: actually, the 9.99 gamepass doesn't include gold? so you need to buy both for $10 bucks a month or $15 for ultimate?

Issue is it's super aggressive. They should have just got rid of live and made gamepass the same price early on as live. Then they could have increased price now and it would have been a more natural way to transitioning.

Dumb move last place company raising prices by 50%.-100%. I'm fine for now i just restocked on the target deal to get back to 3 years of ultimate but after that if prices go up 100% on gamepass I'll just drop it. I can live with out online play and waiting to buy games on a discount. I'll have a back log of ps5 games around then slim should be out.

If you can't get the organic growth one way you'll get it another way. Turning Gold into Gamepass was a no brainer move if you're pressured internally to deliver on growth figures - although revenue and profit can't be hidden from Nadella any way it's spun so (only one pool of money to work with) - it's only postponing the inevitable and eventually force the 'hard' decision. It does work from the pov of profit maximization - Xbox Live Gold is more clean money than Gamepass (which is more expensive to maintain) - so you get the "win" either by hook (Gold) or crook (Gamepass). Now the assumption is that expenditure will as a result expand... as gamers bite more of their disposable income within the Xbox ecosystem, but that's usually hardly the case. The gamer is more than likely just going to consume less of something else - which is: purchasing games within the ecosystem. So what it may likely do is take money away from third party (good for MS, not for third parties selling games) - while revenue stays relatively flat for the whole enterprise (before paying third parties their 70% on their sales).

More like Phil fighting for his life (and the division) and this is the price to pay. Whether gamers are willing to pay that is another thing.
