GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition |OT| Ah shit, here we go again

Of all companies too Rockstar is one of the biggest and richest. That's what gets to me when I see all the issues these remasters have. Make no mistake they are vastly more enjoyable to play then the 30 fps ps2 versions on ps4/xb1 but still, no excuse for such shoddy work.
Yep.

Here in Australia charging $100 AUD for the trilogy is the real crime!

Watched some of the GTA SA footage.

Never played that game before. This is going to be a blast on Switch game looks so fun :messenger_sunglasses:
Is switch the same versions as base PS4 / Xbox One consoles.

I'm playing with Xbox Controller + my phone with phone mount through xCloud gamepass and its awesome playing this portable.

I don't get what people were expecting with the graphics. Who cares?

GTA SA on the go... constantly referenced as the best GTA
Part of the charm of SA on PS2 was the realistic gritty look of the character models, and bizarrely even the fog to mask the crap render distance. It made Mt. Chilliad seem much more intimidating and behemoth like when it slowly came in to view. Now every character looks like this:

I downloaded San Andreas since it's on GamePass.

Overall the visuals look awful and the game runs really poorly (not sure if that's an Xbox problem though). Animations are awful and background objects and texture/object pop-in is all over the place.

Deleted it after playing for 10 minutes..

I watched my buddy play a few hours over share play then loaded up the original. We went to the same places and compared. My god it's a lot better. The original is super basic. Nice QOL changes too.

Well I played around 7 hours of SA today and I loved it. Not played a game that long in many many years.

The amount of hate this is getting is comical. If you are a San Andreas fan (some missing music aside) this is leaps and bounds ahead of the PS2 game and it is an essential purchase. It honestly looks beautiful without being a full remake. Seeing SA like this is uncanny. Having accelerate on the trigger, camera on the stick, better saving etc go a long way. The PS2 game which I have for PS4/5 is a slog to play, is damn fugly, dated in all the wrong ways it is definitely of its time. Even though this is a minimal reworking it pushes it into enjoyable and compelling again.

The driving is the central experience and it is so much fun, arcade yet satisfying and that is why GTA V is toilet by comparison. I loathe that shallow central pole hyper-unrealistic driving model in V. Doesn't feel fun, doesn't feel satisfying.

Don't know why lens flare is off by default but I put that back on.

Sounds good.

I'm downloading GTA SA on Switch right now. Impressions to come.

Played SA for a few hours on Gamepass. It's been so long that I've forgotten all the missions. I haven't had any issues, outside the models looking a little plastic-ey.

I have no idea whats going on.

No from me I guess. I dont even give a crap about the "original" art. The thing needs to run well.

I saw how poor the Switch Version is running and looking. Man, even GTA V is looking and running better on PS3. This is a desaster. Shame on you R*

Marty-McFly Marty-McFly By the people of Neogaf? The forum you're posting on? :messenger_neutral:

I was commenting on your "on the go" line. Fuck cares what some random poll says though, either.

You giving this release a pass?, cool, ok, you do you. But from my own taste and myriad impressions out there it's a cash grab piece of shit. I was there on their OG release and they were genius at the time, certainly deserving of some later love from the creators after lining Rockstar's pockets. They half arsed it. Fact.

Enjoy.

It looks how its suppose to look, it runs bad on consoles?
Since when gta3 suppose to be 60fps game anyway? Will see how it runs in couple days on pc and will enjoy it im sure.
So fot most of you here if any game runs 60fps locked then its good game? Even if its total shit? Cus 60fps just makes any game good. Man thats not even stupid its way beyond that

Marty-McFly Marty-McFly be sure to post those impressions as I'm still hesitant about this Switch port, the SwitchUp and SwitchCorner reviews/impressions sound harsh and I feel like it's best to wait for a sale at the moment or at least a competent performance patch. I can get past the ps2 quality peds and general wonkyness since I've played these on release and know what to expect but I will not have crashes and constant fps dips and stuttering.

Disclaimer: I was and still am (?) a huge Rockstar fan and everything they used to release has been quality, ever since Lemmings and the first gta. I think they peaked with Gta4 which is by far my favourite of the franchise and people shitting on it can't understand the advancements which this game brought forward in open-worlds. I feel it's still unmatched in some regards, compared to newer, more systemic (tm) open worlds like WD or SR. It truly features the most realised city I've experienced in a game. The driving was dope, and so was the music. Was eagerly anticipating a replay on SteamDeck but that will have to wait a bit longer.
Besides Gta4, they followed with RDR, LA Noire and MP3, all of which were amazing imo. I feel after the success of V, divergences at the top deepened and it's becoming pretty apparent they won't pump out ambitious genre defining games ever, esp. after Dan and the Benz jumping ship.

GTFO of here with your straw man arguments. Seriously, that's not what anybody is saying and you know it.

People expect it to be 60fps locked, as the game is in no way, shape, or form a looker. Nor does it have any features that prevent it from running at 60fps. People want 60fps, as it's smoooooth, and this is definitely the type of game that would benefit from it. Who GAF if the original wasn't 60fps.

Not only that they ask full price for ports that leave a lot to be desired, but also full price for the games which game design that didn't age well at all. I played 3 for maybe 30-40 minutes and it's plain boring, Vice City I didn't like that much back when I was teen, it's the SA that I loved. Submitted a refund on RGL. This could've been free of charge update with the option of using old version, I guess Mafia 2 definitive edition isn't looking that bad now when it was free for current owners of the game and leaving an option to play original.

Have to say, it's disappointing to see some of the sloppy work and graphical oddities being shared, a lot of which seemingly wasn't done or even checked by actual humans. You expect better from Rockstar, and certainly considering this is a full price title.

However, haven't played myself so don't know how widespread these problems really are. I've also seen some good overall impressions.

Exactly the same here. It's trash, deleted it right away. Seriously worried about the next gen version of gta v, does Rockstar even care anymore as long as add ons make them money?

Imagine if Rockstar outsourced the GTA V Enhanced to Grove Street Games as well?!!! lol

This is the compairson I saw too.
Really? Imo it does look a lot weaker.

Switch Version
-Blurry
-Bad Framerate
-overall LOD (Grass is missing) Water
Shadows/reflections noticeably worse and bad pop in of cars, much shorter pop in/draw distance. The docked mode is particularly shocking with noticeable dynamic resolution scaling.

Regardless, you can tell they don't give two craps or they would have had the enhanced versions ready last year at launch. I mean you know, they had no time or money to have it ready......oh wait......

shame. About what I expected from Rockstar with how god awful the old San Andreas remaster was. They let AI and outsourcing run wild upscaling and charged $60.

They just don't care as much as fans of the series.

Bought for PS5, spent a couple of hours on "3" as I'll be playing them in order.

my opinion

was really looking forward to the trilogy, then I came to this thread and social media to see the game being slated, I prepared myself to be disappointed.

After actually playing 3, I was enjoying it, the game is almost exactly how I remembered playing it during the PS2 era, and that is what I wanted, NOT the experience I had a few months ago whilst actually trying to replay the Original games, because that wasn't how I remembered them back in the day, it was ugly, and made worse by playing them on my 65" 4K tv.

so I'm very happy, they play and look the same as my nostalgic memories, ands that exactly what I wanted.

I haven't touched vice city, or San Andreas yet, but I'm expecting them to follow suit, and considering 3 is the oldest/worst of the 3 I'm quite pleased.

for those moaning about the game/art direction, I can only assume that
A- you never played the console originals back in the day
B- you haven't tried replaying those originals, especially on a modern tv
C- your coming from PC/Mods

I will say though, how on earth is video killed the radio star not in VC

Been playing through GTA 3. No complaints with the game. Everything looks good lighting, models, texture wise. Only gripe so far is frame rate can sometimes dip in certain areas on the PC version.

Not installed Vice City or San And yet.
