SEC Filing: MS Will Honor Existing Activision Commitments (Sony, Google, Apple) Post-Close

How does this transaction impact existing partner agreements (i.e., Sony, Google, Apple)? Will this change what we're able to offer our partners or how we structure our agreements?

·We will honor all existing commitments post close. As with Microsoft's acquisition of Minecraft, we have no intent to remove any content from platforms where it exists today

So basically the same as Bethesda. Stuff like Warzone will continue to be supported on PlayStation.

But once that marketing deal ends...?

Expected; having thought about things a bit more I can see Warzone staying on PS but they'll probably replace that with a whole new Warzone eventually which could potentially go on PS as well but the individual COD releases going Xbox/PC/GamePass-only.

I guess this also means Diablo 4 will still come to PS4/PS5 since that's been in the works for a while.

They will likely put COD on Gamepass but much like Minecraft I doubt Xbox pulls it from PS, too many buyers

The Warzone/F2P version? No, that'll stay multiplat.

The individual releases? Those could easily go exclusively Xbox/PC/GamePass, or at the very least start with timed exclusivity to Xbox/GamePass for a year or so before going to PlayStation. And they'll keep specific DLC content exclusive to the Xbox/PC/GamePass versions.

Why would that be some contractually obligated thing?

But it's unlikely Blizzard has put much effort outside of PC at this point, considering how not particularly far along they are.

So warzone supported forever.

Annual cods until at least 2023. So that's Modern Warfare 2, and black ops cold 2 war covered. The next years cod won't be big but the year after will be modern Warfare 3 and then cold war 3.

Anything stopping sony from doing a cheeky 10 year cod deal with Activision before next year's take over?

I’m not sure if we really gonna see regular CoD with MP only for Xbox/PC. People already don’t want to play cross-play with console. Player base is going to be really small. Sorry but im not seeing a bright future for the CoD franchise after this (if it’s going to be exclusive).

They're in the middle of a four-year deal. So not until that expires in 2023 and by then the deal will be closed.

GamePass has 25 million subs right now. By the time it's GamePass exclusive they'll be at around 40 million subs. That's a big player base.

I just thought the game was pretty far along, maybe I got that mistaken with the Diablo 2 remake instead.

If that's the case, then yeah there'd be no contractual obligation for Diablo 4. That'll most likely skip PlayStation at this point.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Most likely is that their "intent to purchase" contract with Microsoft probably excludes stuff like this.

Same as like "the company can't run up a bunch of debt" and things like that.

But any reason why that can't be extended by 6 years in advance? If both sony and MS agreed to it..

Bobby isn't a big fan of MS and didn't want to sell to them so he might be up for it.

Plus most people I know who play it shut off cross play anyhow to avoid PC players

It's like.. MAYBE possible D4 comes in 2022, but considering Blizzard said probably 2023, I'd say... 2024 lol

I'm sure there would be agreements in place to stop Activision from doing anything that could devalue the asset before the sale. LOL

Everyone who subs to the service has access to that game...seriously dude?

People still need to start the game and play it.

Are you stupid or what? If you really think that CoD is gonna be more popular if it’s exclusive, then you really need to take of those glasses.

25 million is more than most CoD games sell across all platforms. So if it's exclusive to GamePass, again they could have upwards of 40 million by that time, then it has potentially the largest audience of any CoD game yet.

i wonder if this means they commit to the Google Cloud infra plans they had or if they will sneak in Azure as soon as possible lol

those buyers will just get an xbox or pc. minecraft already was on those platforms and MS didnt want to take it away. The next year COD isnt there yet since its not out and that will be when xbox and pc get it only.

Yep. Called it. I wavered for a moment when folks started talking about regulatory stuff, but this confirms it to me. Want Call of Duty, you gotta buy something with a Microsoft logo (or OS).

Oh well. Microsoft as the good guy didn't last long. But that's business.

But if they can make Blizzard great again.....I'm not complaining.

It doesn’t need to sell as many units for it to be profitable for MS. If it is only playabe on PC/Xbox a good portion of the folks that like the game will either move to PC or buy an Xbox; most will sign up for game pass. Will sale be reduce? Yes, But those loses will be mitigated by having the converts in MS‘s eco system. That’s their long play.

And alot of prospective console purchasers will be factoring COD exclusivity into their future console purchase.

Next every COD player will jump ship, but a lot will.

People seem to forget the X360 was COD central, then the Xbone happened and all those COD whales migrated straight to the PS4. If there is not COD on PS5 they migrate wherever it ends up just like before. The fact that the game will be "free" on the new platform probably won't hurt either.

It will be played by less people, but it won't become less popular. It will also sell lots of consoles and subs.

People still laughing at the XsS? That will be a fucking COD casuals magnet...
