4 Tflop Console Showdown.

Bait and switch video.
Oliver had a single point to make, which he does at about the 13 minute mark.
8th gen machines are no longer given consideration by developers.

There was no need to make a whole "4TF Showdown!" video for something they could have stated in a 30 second DF Weekly statement.

4 TF is far from comparable going from PS4 Pro to Series S. I'd estimate the Series S GPU is about 30-40% more performant or so, not to take into consideration RDNA2-specific features.

If only ms could rejig the series s into a portable machine. That would be the ultimate ecosystem.

That would be great, in a way though its size and low power requirement does give it some advantages. I have a motorhome and even off grid it can be plugged into a solar generator for gaming on the go, only draws 80w tops so can get an easy 20 hours play. Having quick resume that works even when the machine has been switched off is a real bonus.

"Pretty remarkable for a machine that has been £199 or lower during the Xmas period. A solid choice and even more so now the cross gen period is ending."

So remarkable price, that you have to spent another 200£ if you want be able to put more than 2 games in it, without mentioning most games runs at 1080 or 900p.

But if some people are happy w it cool them i guess

Internet isn’t slow anymore. You can delete and change games pretty quickly.

Don't like that, i have also at least 3 or 4 games games that i would fire once each 1 week at least. I still play T7, SF5, or Genshin for example, and been playing MK11, Red Dead, MHW, or Injustice 2 almost daily for more than 1 or 2 years. Sorry but 500GB when most big games take 100 or even 200GB is big joke.

Hey man, thems the breaks. Save your money and buy a console with a larger hard drive.

You can just use an external and move games around quickly and cheaply, also most games aren't 200gb at all, I only know of Black Ops that's that big, I have a lot more than 2 games on my Series S. Some of the games mentioned are last gen anyway and would run off an external.

Series S is a great choice for those playing on a fullhd Tv or smaller pc monitor! If you're going with 4K 50"+ then I'll consider Series X more!

SS gpu is on par with One X, so at least they should compare with it. Previous gen X also has more BW. SS is definitely a better console to X as well but this is just another advertisment of SS 🤷‍♂️ If Microsoft wants to push SS at least they should give the numbers. I would like to know if it is going to be their best selling console this gen 🤦‍♂️

Totally expected results, the CPU and SSD alone should ensure the outcome. Bit of an odd video to start with, but there you go.

I've really enjoyed mine, the small size is perfect for a desk and you'd never know it was running even in the most demanding games it is whisper quiet (big change from my old X1 VCR that had some noticeable coil whine). Plus, like has been said the lower power profile that is enforced in all the games for XSS could really come in handy down the road. A portable XSP might even have a shot in Asia.

Curious to see how people post "WHY SERIES S WHEN YOU HAVE ONE X THAT IS MORE POWERFUL" then videos like this one comes out and suddenly everyone saying "duh, obvious, 8th gen vs 9th gen" lol

Btw, Series S is barely half as powerful as PS5 in GPU alone and basically same in everything else with the advantage of rendering half or 75% resolution by default, so yeah, it's a full fledge next gen console 😉

People keep trying to make the Series S happen. People don't want it. They'd rather save for a real next gen box.

Terrible res, lower frame rates and deal breaking storage. How is that great.

Sales say otherwise. It's a great console. Perfect for kiddos that can't count terraflops, pixels and resolution. It's also a great companion console or a second room console.

The console has its place. It's weird that because you don't like it no one should.

You realize that this is not the pre-launch console tech thread right? Even if they never sold a single additional unit, they've already sold millions of these things.

That ship has left the harbor.

I really don't like console makers developing a lower tier box and gimping next gen but my opinion aside, I don't think sales are great at all. They resorted to giving them away during the holidays, I bet with more time and better availability, Series S gets a lower market share progressively throughout the gen.

I'd love to see you list just one title that was 'gimped' by the XSS. The XSS may have lower settings but that is not transitive. Plenty of games have higher resolution and raytracing that the XSS doesn't have but I've yet to see how the XSS has caused higher end systems to have their settings lowered.

With regard to sales as SportsFan581 SportsFan581 has already stated the XSS is responsible for most of the Xbox sales this gen you aren't putting that genie back in the bottle. It is a success and a smart move by MS. If it's not for you don't buy one.

If you think the difference between rich and poor is $200 I dont know what to say.
Its not about the money, but the things they have.
Series X and Ps5 specs are like rich, while series S is like poor.
People would always mock the inferior specs. We get that as a PC users from our fellow new graphic users.

GCN 2.0 vs RDNA 2. Tech a few gens apart and consoles four years apart from one another. Then there's the CPU difference.

DF do some good videos, then there's whatever this is >_>

Polaris is GCN 4 a.k.a. GFX8.

PS4 Pro is GCN 4.X since it has Vega rapid pack math with missing Vega's L2 cache coupled ROPS.

Xbox One X is GCN 4.X since it missing Vega rapid pack math, but has ROPS coupled with 2MB render cache.

Vega is GCN 5 a.k.a GFX9 which has rapid pack math with ROPS coupled with a 4MB L2 cache. Vega has a Next-Gen Graphics Pipeline (buggy NGGP, primitive shader, ref 1, later disabled by the driver) alternative while most of the PC GPU industry supported mostly NVIDIA-defined DirectX12U RTX Turing. PC/Xbox RDNA 2 follows NVIDIA-defined DirectX12U Turing.

RDNA v1 is GFX10 that supports Next-Gen Graphics Pipeline (working NGGP, primitive shader, ref1, ref 2, Ref 3) alternative.

RDNA v1 just missed out on being GTX Turing. PS5's RDNA is based on v1 with RDNA v2's RT cores and high clock speed improvements. The NGGP hardware feature is exposed by MESA's AMD NGG extension.

RDNA v2 is GFX10.3 which is compliant with DX12U. NVIDIA's RTX won the next-gen graphics pipeline standards.

Teraflops are such a poor metric.
This is an apples and oranges comparison.
While I agree that Teraflops by itself is a poor metric, the other specs are not... which is what DF are factoring in.

Further: of course it isn't an apples and oranges comparison. Here you have two machines which are home to the same games so the comparisons couldn't be more apt. Just like how you would compare 3rd party titles on Switch that have also come out on 8th or 9th gen consoles. It's a perfectly valid comparison.
