Billbill-kun: Horizon Lego is day 1 on PC and PS5

I know you're trolling or have low a IQ, but this is a Lego game, not a horizon game. In the sense that Lego is the overarching brand and they make things related to a lot of IP's, like Fortnite.

It's like when Kratos' Fortnite skin was available on Switch, that must mean they're now day and date on switch (PS games)

This isn't that hard.

Lego is not publishing, SIE is.

We don't know whose developing it, but it could very well be that an internal SIE studio is also developing it.

So this is a live service game?

"Bilbill-kun also adds in his report that the game will be available on day one on both PlayStation 5 and PC, which is in line with PlayStation's latest comments on releasing live-service games together on both platforms. "

I doubt it, translation error most likely

Seems like Henderson extrapolating. The original article only talks about in-app purchases (which lots of SP/co-op games have as well)

If that is the case (I really hope it is actually), then its Sony licensing the Lego IP and not the other way around

I never said it would, I said like others have said its a step in a certain direction and its ok if others disagree with it

Yep a step in a direction where a third party IP and third party developed game with Sony characters gets day and date on PC

The next time we have a situation like this such as Horizon Hogwarts Legacy you can expect the same step in this direction

I just wonder how bad this Horizon game will sell, not being bundled with a PS5 or PC/graphics card.

I'm sure Herman will find a way to bundle it with something to boost up its numbers.

Regardless of who developed it.

Whats the difference between this and MLB the Show?

Well one would be developed by an in house studio at Sony so theres no contract/negotiation type stuff going on. The other would be with an outside studio which would be using a Sony IP and having to pay for that. Would they want to pay for that license and at the same time be forced to only release the game on PS5 (maybe PS4)? They could have told Sony we will pay what you want for the right to use the IP but we also want the rights to release it on PC day 1 so we can recoup as much money as possible.

When you start working with other companies/outside studios things can get weird. We already know Sony was forced to release MLB the Show on Xbox because of the contract.

Lots of people saying this is the boiling frog strategy. Could be, could also just be them taking a few steps closer but making sure they don't jump over the edge. I don't personally care either way even if Sony did go day and date. I'll never go back to PC gaming unless I'm forced to.

I've come to accept that PC will eventually just get everything. Day and date.

So, all I can hope for now is that the experience is as miserable as possible for you. I truly from the bottom of my heart, hope your frames are low, your temps are high and your PSN accounts get banned

I think it is going to bomb badly. I said in the other thread that I think Hulst is trying to push Aloy as the face of PlayStation. It doesn't work. I just do not think there will be broad appeal for a Horizon Lego game.

I think the Horizon franchise does well but I do think this Lego game is going to bomb. I love the Horizon franchise but I have no interest in playing this.

Isn't Helldivers 2 a PlayStation Studios game?

GAAS is day 1 this has been known for years already.

I dunno, we'll have to see what the game is first, we haven't even seen a screenshot yet.

IMO that's semantics. It's a non-GAAS game based on one of SIE's biggest IPs by far, and it's at least of a similar scope to Astro Bot.

So now the question's gonna be, why isn't Astro Bot Day 1 on PC too? You KNOW everyone's going to be asking that if this rumor is true. And it's not like SIE don't capitulate immediately to frothing, demanding PCMR Steam fanboys. We saw that clearly with the Helldivers 2 stuff.

Fact is, Herman said only a week ago, that non-GAAS titles would NOT by Day 1 on PC. He might've said "tentpole", sure, but we know they meant non-GAAS in general because SIE only really make tentpole traditional titles as-is. And so what if this is made by a 3P? It's still a SIE IP and one of their tentpole IP at that.

Now I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop with Astro Bot, and hear a PC version coming 3-6 months after console. Probably for cheaper, too. The whole optics in their PC strategy is increasingly detrimental to the console.

I don't see how that's semantics at all. If Sony licenses out the Ghostbusters IP out to a 3rd party publisher to make a game (which they've done on multiple occasions), it has nothing to do with PS Studios. This is a LEGO game using a Sony IP, no different then Fortnite licensing Kratos to put in the game. Astro Bot is a PS Studios published and internally developed game. It's apples and oranges.

Sony owns the HD2 IP

They do not own the Lego IP

Are you really this daft?

They own the Horizon IP, they're publishing it like they publish 1P games.

With MLB at least you have the excuse that it's MLB who publishes the Xbox version.

No, I'm not daft. I'm just amused at all the mental gymnastics to try and distance this from Sony.

The GAF equivalent of "no, you got peanut butter on my chocolate!"

I hope you all stand on Lego soon

Neither do I. Of course, I'm not a fan of Lego games at all. My kids liked them when they were young, but I'm just not into them.

Guys, there's no point in speculating the IP and license politics of this. The game isn't announced, we don't know the details, etc. Let's just all agree that this demonstrates that PlayStation shouldn't be porting damn near anything on PC and call it day, yeah?

Not Sony developed = not first party according to at least one person in this thread.
Well, to be fair it isn't a first party studio

However, we don't know who is developing this yet, but either way, it's two IP's at play here which is why it's most likely the way it is one way or the other.

It's also Lego so they'll want as many sales as possible, but I get why it's not on Switch also but I bet that was discussed (then again, maybe this game features raytracing so not possible there anyway, but I'm just speculating)

I'm not the one who needs convincing.

There's also 2nd party and it's always been a thing.

Helldivers, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, etc.

Who's to say Playstation isn't the 2nd party in this case, working for Lego to develop their game instead of this being a Sony 1st party?
Do we even know if it's a Sony studio developing the game?

If Sony just gave another studio Horizon licensing for the game and offered to publish it because of the licensing, it isn't a Sony 1st party release and would not contradict what Hulst stated.

Just because they publish the game doesn't mean they can do whatever they want with another company's IP

Yes, daft.
