I have an hardware addiction…upgrade itch always itching.

I'm the opposite. I wait as long as possible because I enjoy big leaps.

For example, I had a 720p TV and monitor For about 10 years. When I finally felt it was time to upgrade I bought a huge 4k TV.

So I went from 720p straight to 4K. Awesome experience. It's fun and I get to save a lot of money..

Same I try go for big upgrades. Not quite the same but going from a 1440P VA to a 4K OLED monitor soon, which should be fairly noticable.

Try min/maxing and learning to love the build process cuz if you dont actually need the parts but want them to have them, you might as well buy them and keep them boxed then sell them after EOL as brand new in box.
Thatll sate your need to have the latest thing and also sate you need to be unique without any actually unique talents.
In box EOL items will make you like that awesome collector who has a no yellowing NES.




If ArrowLake spanks the 7800X3D im sure your tune will be very different even if realistically you wouldnt feel the difference between them.

I don't really want to support intel. they are just lazy and scamming people with the latest 2 releases. they pretty much overclocked them to the point they degrade quickly, heats up quickly. they only support 2 gen max. just a scummy practice all around. I have a project Zero board B650. all I need is a new CPU, sell the old CPU to offset some of the costs and Iam golden.

but in reality I game at 4k 144. the whole CPU is just basically no advantage at this point. unless the game is so big you would tell the difference even at 4k. I do not see it happening between 7800 x3d and ArrowLake or 9000x3d doing that. but hey I hope I am wrong.

I had to leave PC gaming behind because no matter what I bought or how much I upgraded, I was never satisfied, and it made me hate the games too. I'm diagnosed OCD (as well as other things) and it was unhealthy for me. Going to consoles, most notably Nintendo, allowed me to enjoy gaming again.
 
I feel this way too. It's not so much a curse, I just really love hardware. I always just sit in a purchase for a few days instead of impulse buying and that usually cools the urge. I love building systems but I don't really need more than 1 powerful desktop. I sort of get around it by tinkering with a lot of old parts and systems I collect over the years.

4k 144fps you'll be GPU bottlenecked way faster than CPU in most situations. I personally game at 4k(upscaled 4k as well and only one game so far has bottlenecked on the CPU (7600x) so hard that the game actually stuttered (Spiderman Remastered with RT).
 
Never do minor upgrades op, just go for the overkill upgrade. You get the best dopamine hit and you will stay satisfied for longer. If you are anything like me it will actually save you money in the long run, because you won't want to upgrade until you can get the same jump in performance.
 
I solved this problem quite easily

At one time I always needed to have all the latest, always, 780Ti, 980Ti, 1080Ti, need that max FPS at ultra max quality settings.

Then.............(and this is the most important advice).........


I got older..............my eyesight now sux balls so I can barely tell the difference between 1440p and 4k in games at 60FPS.

Also no longer need insane FPS, reflexes deteriorate, no need any more for >120FPS.

Because something was always coming out. Then there was the ram, or keyboard/mouse or monitor, or speakers.

It was always something. I was a regular at Fry's for at least 10 years.

Realize that you can't "win" at the game that is PC Gaming and start investing your money in stocks so you're not old and broke.

Stop being such a goyim - grow up and control your spending. Maybe become a parent as being a dad will force you to live a structured, frugal lifestyle for at least a while. Otherwise invest your money into something that generates an income. You're welcome.
 
The Switch has humbled me a bit. I still love advancements in technology and like the new shiny thing, but I learned with gaming that more power doesn't necessarily make a better game or experience.

This is actually so true.
Since a long time we havent had substantial gen on gen upgrades for anything so youll never actually feel like the upgrade has been worthwhile.

I was on an i5-2500K for so long when I finally upgraded I actually realized my 1% lows were shit and my GTX1070 was being held back so much.

Only jumped to RTX GPUs because I needed that sweet sweet RT.

Only reason im planning on upgrading from an RTX3080 to something is because of the VRAM situation.
If the RTX3080'20G ever released in the west I would probably have gotten one of those and skipped a bunch of generations.....importing isnt worth the hassle.

Realizing its a problem.
Hes probably not enjoying the new parts as much as he used to when he started.
Even if the 4090 was literally double the 3090 the dopamine hit should have been amazing.....it wasnt so now its like man this is a problem.

For the layman I think majopr PC upgade you test like all your old games settings resolution maxxed out and you can tell its new hardware......if you were already at the top, its like why?

IF OP atleast used to bench his computer maybe he could get a dopamine hit from climbing the charts.....but he buys part to have parts so the enjoyment just isnt there.
 
Been there. Was stuck on getting the highest series GPU every single gen starting with the 280 through 1080. Then I just stopped. 2000 gen seemed like an easy skip. Then 3000 was unavailable, then all of a sudden in the 4000 series, that 650 that use to get me the very best card of a series, doesn't even get me the third best card in the series. So I'm still on the 1080 lol. (Did buy a 7800x3D though)
