PS4 or ps4pro ?

PS4 in Handheld mode, PS4 Pro in Docked mode
but with modern GPU features like Raytracing and DLSS.

DLSS has the potential to get it visually close to PS5 in select games when docked. as DLSS can easily upsample from 1080p to 4K and look close to native 4K in games like Doom Eternal for example.

I said it in another thread already, but a Doom Eternal port on the Switch 2 legitimately has the potential to look superior to the PS5 and Series X versions, as even running the game at 900p internally and then upsampling it to 1800p through DLSS gives you better image quality than the dynamic 4K mode on PS5/SX

they assumed the NDA was over, fucked around and found out. I'm following the whole story as we speak.

Seems they will play it safe and just effectively release a Switch Pro. I've just been using my switch mostly as an indie machine but I may move to steam + one of the handheld devices. My switch has been collecting dust since Bayonetta 3.

I would lower my expectations, it's a Nintendo handheld, price, size and power consumption are key and I doubt it will have DLSS. Normal PS4 quality in the best case scenario.

If specs leaks are true. The leap between Switch 1 and 2 is bigger than PS4 to PS5… Really far for a Switch Pro.
At 2/4 TFLOPS, you can do the math yourself. It's ten times more flops over the same handheld and docked modes respectively, while PS4 to PS5 was 5.5 times more. This is a PS3-PS4 level scale leap, actually somewhat further...

we know it has DLSS... the Tegra T239 has tensor cores, and the Tegra T239 is the chip used in the Switch 2.

the T239 can also reach around 4 TFLOPS in docked mode. the only question really is the final clock speeds in each mode

Thats almost confirmed and out of the question… Between PS4 pro and series S docked is totally possible with those specs.

Imagine Nintendo disabling the DLSS already in the hardware, just to ensure we have to play Vaseline Zelda for another 8 years, as their competition launches new models with upscaling tech.

Ah huh.

The most iterative, the most powerful and the most delayed. Nintendo really didn't seems to think this is their best format and I honestly agree. Time to build robust games and services for it.

If those are the ergonomics Nintendo should be mocked into the ground. The Switch was awful to hold.

It's not supposed to replace this:

DS was also dogshit to hold even when their console controller was good...because it's a portable and needs to be small. Switch is already a behemoth, so we don't need handles hanging off the core package.

Don't like it, slide 'em off and attach a different one. Aren't options great?

As if it's impossible to create a Nintendo Switch size device that doesn't have laughable ergonomics.

Oh wait, didn't PlayStation just make one?

I don't believe the specs. It would be too expensive in a post Moore's law world. Especially for a company like Nintendo that needs to profit off the hardware.

Grain of salt..

That is not a Nintendo Switch size device, nor is it meant to use like a Game Boy. Anything I didn't already cover in my post?

Switch is already a behemoth, so we don't need handles hanging off the core package.

I use Hori-style big controllers on Switch. They are too big for a product meant to replace DS. It is extremely cumbersome to move and transport. Using it as a portable is not meant to be an afterthought option, its in its DNA.

The leak has been corroborated by Necrolipe.

About the leaks: A source of mine, the same one who provided me with RAM memory data between 2022 and 2023, stated that the photo of the leaked board is real.

Still, let's work with caution as this is a plate dated October/2023

The T239 is a massive upgrade from X1, but still falls very short of a console like PS5 which is $500.

I think the impact of DLSS (or PSSR) hitting consoles for the first time is tripping up a lot of people. We are conditioned to expect a different kind of tech advancement and the costs that come with it. So when we hear this humble handheld can hit 4k, we call bullshit.

this looks to be Nintendo's least innovative console ever - if true
perfect they don't need to innovate on the switch 2 just spec bump it and a bigger screen. Oh and add Hall effect sticks (but they won't) to much money made on having us constantly buy new ones.

And I just want to say--SERVES NINTENDO RIGHT that this got leaked. Their stupidity of waiting to reveal needs to backfire on them. How much hubris do they have if they think they can keep it secret once parts go into production in various factories. They should have unveiled this thing back in the Summer.

I'm sorry but the size of the Switch doesn't absolve it from getting criticized for its awful ergonomics.

The egonomics suck, but they don't suck if I'm playing a game I'd be fine playing with a NES controller, which is literally a square block. I intentionally use the "shitty" joycons while playing an RPG/tactics/simple 2D platformer because unless I actually need the better ergonomics to manipulate all the buttons and sticks, the big controllers get in the way and increase the weight.

You may as well be telling me Game Boy should have shipped with a massive ergonomic grip part of the shell. Uh, no it shouldn't have. Cool you could get your own, though.

Standards get raised over time. I wasn't complaining about the NES controller in 1989 because that's all we had. Ergonomics improve and Nintendo gets shielded for some reason.

Reveal more close to the launch date is always a better strategy. This a business, remember that…

Standards of portability went down. But they didn't go that far down.

The portability is more important, that's the connection you aren't making. The core package can't be "twice as large to carry as DS, but only if you buy something extra to make it smaller"

My point with NES was that the square block isn't unergonomic depending on what type of game. That is, Switch also has many games where the shitty Joycon don't even matter, I could play them with a NES controller and not care, this is Game Boy DNA and better for a portable that lets you swap out the controllers with anything you want.

As I said in another post it's a portable for kids and Japanese subways first. If it looked like Portal it would be a massive mistake. The people who want it to can solve it easily.

Wasn’t it rumored that the pro controller for the switch one would also still be the same pro controller for the switch 2? Or do you guys think there will be a pro controller 2?

At this point, serious design changes are not likely to happen. Nintendo is locked into backwards compatibility and their digital storefront, and that means Switch 2 will be almost entirely the same, aside from greater hardware power. This is the Apple model of hardware design and it’s where the industry stands right now.

I would still expect at least one or two new innovations from Nintendo, perhaps the return of Streetpass or something similar. They could always bring back the Mii Plaza & Check Mii Out, which was endless fun on the Wii. What matters most, again, is backwards compatibility & maintaining the online store. Let’s hope Nintendo has finally figured that out.

As always, what matters most is software. If Nintendo can deliver another round of amazing videogames, they’ll do fine. I have no idea what the next 3D Mario will be like, or what new launch titles are in the wings.

Triggers are supposed to be analog in the Switch 2 joycons according to some leaks, if true Pro 2 is going to be a thing.
