I picked "somewhat " but it isn't because of the price or the hardware. It's because of Sonys complete lack of doing anything with it. A lot more games should have Pro patches, and even if Sony can't work with other developers there is no reason their own games can't get them. Last gen a ton of games got "Pro" patches and on Xbox side, Microsoft went back and enhanced a bunch of games for its flagship console.

Honestly, they should have an entire team that does nothing but this.

Anyway, I'm happy, but I'm not sure I would think it worth it as a straight up purchase without a 50% trade value credit. Its a pretty big jump here in Australia versus the base model, especially when you compare against some pretty nice sales on the base model over our Summer.

I was satisfied with the PS4 Pro and I'm satisfied with the PS5 Pro. They can make a good experience a great experience simply by delivering more stable framerates or better visuals at the same framerate.

The PS5 Pro does that even better than the PS4 Pro because developers and maybe Sony didn't know how best to market some games in a pre-vrr environment.

How many PS4 Pro games could have hit 60 fps with just a slight reduction in resolution but they didn't want the press of lowered resolutions attached to the Pro yet an optional performance mode would have made those games significantly better experiences. Instead these games stuck to 30 fps (but uncapped probably would have been closer to 60, but unstable). ~60 with VRR and dynamic resolution that is tightly woven around performance is kind of the console holy grail.

I'll actually add that one of my chief criticisms of the PS5 Pro is in line with my criticism of how games were developed for the PS4 Pro.

The mistake of not having lower resolution performance modes targeting 60 fps seems to be repeated in this generation due to the lack of proper system wide LFC. Performance modes would have improved more games on PS4 Pro just as balanced modes would improve more games on the PS5 Pro with games targeting 40+ FPS would have meant fidelity modes with significantly higher framerates and would have better set up the PS6.

Fidelity Mode Unlocked framerates with RTX with low framerate compensation... this mode on PS6 would instantly be among the best modes to play.

Sony desperately needs to add this in by the end of the year.

I'm happy with the increased performance but I would say disappointed with the legacy boost mode and a few games not being patched some first party and some 3rd.

I would have expected FF16 to be patched and for RE2 and 3 to get proper patches. First party, I'm disappointed by the lack of patches for Returnal and Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. With both follow up games, you'd think it would be a good opportunity to patch the old ones.

I also think Sony missed an opportunity to implement system wide LFC and I think PS Link has been a massive disappointment and probably why it hasn't been integrated with the new PS5 Slim or the Pro.

Looking forward to PSSR being implemented in more games and improvements to PSSR.

No new features or graphics settings increases with the same FPS as the base in most cases (still a lowly 30fps). Again, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in 90% of cases was simply a resolution bump over the base. Sure the One X has a bigger delta since it had more horsepower to push even higher resolutions than the PS4 Pro (and the Xbone was a lower baseline) but ultimately it still had a Jaguar CPU restrained by lack of VRR so most games stayed at the same 30fps FPS (or 60 in rare cases - Forza Motorsport 7 for example). The PS4 PRO could usually not hit the 4K target and very few games actually used the Checkerboard solution. Those Pro versions simply brought nothing new to the table that the base PS4 or Xbox One couldn't do. At best, all you got with those Pro consoles was a sharper image and slightly more graphical detail at best. I mean if that floats your boat then great. But we're getting that and more with the PS5 PRO so how you can appreciate the res bump on the previous Pro consoles but then say that the PS5 Pro difference is too small just doesn't compute.

I don't know, man. I rarely play on consoles, but I remember the difference between base ps4 and xbox one to their pro-versions felt like a good boost. For the ps4 the much improved noise reduction probably played some part in it.
Maybe it's because i'm "spoiled" from playing on a high end PC rig with a lot higher fps than 60, but I don't really feel much difference between my old regular ps5 and the pro (based on the few games i've played on it)
I didn't really expect anything more, and for what it does it's all fine!

I voted other because I don't own a Pro. Didn't wanna ruin the poll. I guess I'm still stuck on the price and needing to buy the stand and a disc drive. That along with not really having a clear understanding of the Pro enhanced games. Like are you running 4k 60 on most games now? Does the Pro run games better even without the Pro enhanced tag? Or is this something where the devs have to specifically target the hardware?

Honestly asking because Death Stranding 2 might convince me to give in.

I became satisfied after managing to grab a disk drive last week.
It is really nice to be able to play most games 60fps on what equals to quality mode on the base console.

Im betting that future games like DS2 will make me enjoy my purchase even more.

The major difference between ps4 pro and ps5 pro is that ps4 had perfectly good IQ as most games ran at native 1080p resolution and people just had 1080p tv at home. ps5 on the other hand not so much, as there are even games that run 720p on 60fps performance mode and 4K tv is the standard now. There're games that just look unbearably blurry and messy (especially with the fsr2 upscale) if you're to play in 60fps, and we all know that about 75% of ps5 users play their games on 60fps performance mode, so ps5 pro is more of a necessity than anything ps4 pro had ever provided. to me, ps5 pro doesn't 'enhance' like ps4 pro did. it more or less turns something 'miserable' to something more 'acceptable' and it's been doing decent job so far except in very few occasions.

I don't understand why people keep tripping on the price! I'll go further and say that the PS5 PRO is a bargin for what it offers in today's reality. People need to realize that for the first time ever 4 years into a console generation, the price of the base console has not gone down. In fact, it is now still higher than it was at launch!

Perspective people:
A Digital Edition PS5 actually retails for $450 (was $400 at launch). So the PS5 PRO is a $250 premium.

But let's neutralize the SSD effect where the Digital Edition includes a 1TB SSD and the PRO includes a 2 TB SSD. So to get 1TB of additional SSD storage on par with the performance of the PS5 SSD, it'll cost you roughly $100.

So if you wanted a base PS5 Digital Edition with 2TB of total storage, you're looking at closer to $550 for your total investment. From there the PRO would be an additional $150 or +27% more $$

Ok so for 27% more money you get:

• A GPU that is 67% larger in terms of shading power
• 2-3x faster Ray Tracing performance
• 300 TOPS of machine learning performance not present on the base (used to power PSSR for now)
• 28% more memory bandwidth
• 2GB more total RAM
• Total net performance that often exceeds 2x over the base
• Faster Wifi 7 capability
• Smaller more efficient form factor

I don't know about you, but even eliminating the larger 2TB SSD included in the box, the PRO delivers way more than 27% additional value across the board! Sure the sticker price of $699 can be shocking but in reality, it's still a hell of a deal.

I'm in Australia, the Pro was $1,350 with a disc drive. I was never upset over the price but the price without drive was $1,200 and I feel considering it is a Pro, it would have been nice for the disc drive to be included, especially considering the shortages it caused. But I agree, it is good value still.

RT is admittedly heavy processing, but it looks great and you don't need 300% zoom to notice it.

I just finished playing Forspoken and TLOU1 on the PS5 Pro because the image quality has improved.
I'm currently playing FF7R (beautiful 4K upscale).
I've tried dozens of other games, and even games without the Pro patch are responsive with a 35% boost (FPS and DRS resolution), and the loading times are slightly faster on the Pro, so it's comfortable.

That 2nd ff rebirth screenshot is very nice!
What do you think about forspoken ?

I think that's just the screen switching from 60hz mode that is the PS5's main menu to 120hz/VRR when playing a game (and back). I get the same on my 120hz VRR monitor. It's not happening on PS4 games, which is I believe because they don't support 120hz and are only 60.

if you go from SDR to HDR, from VRR off to VRR on, from 60hz to 120hz, or from Movie Picture mode to Game Mode, you will get a short black screen as your TV switches modes.

turn off ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and set the TV's picture mode to Game Mode, set HDR to Always On in the PS5 Menu.

yes that's normal. your console changes its signal, and the TV has to adjust to the new signal.

I suppose a dirty fix would be to deactivate VRR and 120hz either on the panel itself or individual games, but probably not worth it seeing all the benefits you lose. The ideal solution would be if the PS5 main menu itself ran at 120hz with VRR on, but I don't believe there's currently a way to force it.

I'm pretty happy. It's not blown me away but then the PS4 Pro didn't either (I never had a 4K TV at the time).

My PC can not play Elden Ring, The Witcher 3 next-gen, Ghostwire Tokyo, Silent Hill 2 or Black Myth Wukong without extreme stutter. The Pro has basically saved those games for me.

The reasons to own one will also only increase over time when GTA6 and Death Stranding 2 come out.

It feels great to play games on a dedicated system again and I'm happy I jumped on the PS5 Pro instead of a graphics card.

For me, selling ps5 base from launch and upgrade was cheap. So nice in that regard.

But I haven't found a noticeable difference outside of ff7 rebirth.

I think it will have more value moving forward as more games especially first party games use it's standout features

I don't regret owning it, even if so far it's been more disappointing than satisfying for myself

Or maybe they are hopeful for the future, in light of the recent news about FSR/PSSR. There were a significant percentage of negative votes - about 9%, depends how you slice it - although that figure is inflated by people voting in the poll who didn't follow instructions (haven't owned a PS5 Pro).

I'm still undecided on whether to get one for myself, mainly because graphics and performance aren't that big of a deal to me. But the results of the poll are encouraging, at least.

I think this probably highlights the big difference between people who are satisfied with Pro and those that are not. You nailed it for me at least. I hated how bad so many games look in performance mode on PS5 and 30fps just wasn't an option I could deal with. PS5 Pro fixed all that for me. I do hope they improve PSSR so you and others who look at it like you do will be able to enjoy it as well.

New job where I spent a lot of time on my computer + work laptop.

Computer GPU needed thermal paste replace a bunch of times. PC fans going crazy again last summer made me consider getting a new PC.

Insane GPU pricing drove me towards consoles. Pro announcement/rumours came at the right time.

Very happy with the decision. And I'll probably get a Switch 2 down the line.

So I'll be moving from PC+Nintendo for a bunch of years, to, Nintendo+PS5 for gaming.

I understand that PC's offer so much more than gaming, but the discussion about which is best is so exhausting. It's all about personal preference and where you're at in life. And I just couldn't deal with shitty PC ports/crashes + insane GPU prices anymore.

I might move back to PC gaming in a few years, but I feel good with the PS5 for now.

Not to mention, crossplay for many games being a total win.

So got mine, and have voted Neutral for the time being, but I'm sure things will change once Death Stranding 2 & GTA VI Come out. Tested a fair few games and It's a bit underwhelming if I'm being honest. PSVR2 sees the biggest improvement imo, so happy with that at least. I already have a PC that can beat the pro, so maybe I'm a tad biased though. The PS4 upscaling filter is horrible too. Ah well, I bought myself the Timesplitters trilogy, that will keep me going until June I guess. £699 to play PS2 games
